How haven't IU and Purdue played at "Hoosiers" yet?

That Field of Dreams game was one of the coolest things I think I've ever seen. If they dont do something similar with Hoosiers, it should literally be a crime.

I actually stopped there on the way home from our game at IU in 2014. It was simply awesome. No fee. The 80 year old caretaker told tales of the movie filming and other basketball stories. Got to shoot around, take pictures, etc. It looks 100% the same as the movie

Do you mean the HS gym that holds maybe 200 people or Butler Fieldhouse? Who gives up a home game (and revenue) to play a game at another in state university's gym (and boosting that program who you may be competing for with recruits)? The floor is the only thing that makes it special since you won't have the entire gym experience and you can do that in your own gym. And last night was OK. Game wasn't played on the original field. Had a lot of bells and whistles that will quickly become tired and boring. Then all you have is a regular season game being played in IA in a minor league type stadium that's a few miles from the actual field. The novelty will be gone within 3 years.

MLB built an entire new field for this one game. Here is where the two are located. seems like a waste of money for a publicity stunt

The HS gym in Knightstown. Have to get a game there. The old caretaker told me they have a local HS all-star game there where one team wears Hickory and the other wears South Bend Central.

College Basketball needs some juice. Nobody watches the regular season anymore. They've done those stupid games on battleships and play in empty casino ballrooms. We have to come up with some new gimmicks.

And maybe one or two TV cameras because of the sightlines in those type of gyms. Will be unwatchable and thus a huge fail.

The NBA played a game there. Old time uniforms and all. The game should not be IU Purdue, but IU versus some small nothing school such as U of Southern Indiana.

I have been to the Hoosiers gym and it is awesome. When you walk into the gym, you walked onto the set of the movie.

Awesome place to check out.

I have played there. Well, a brief 2 on 2 game a couple of years ago. But place is really cool. They play an Indiana HS all star game there. I saw Gary McGhee's picture in one of the photos. I saw Tom Brady's name in the sign in guest book.

Visited the gym 3 years ago on the way back from watching Butler and Creighton at Hinkle FH. My favorite part was walking into the tiny locker room! Brought back memories of an old gym in a closed down school where I grew up where we used to break into on weekends during the winter to play.

I liked Hoosiers, I never not even once watched Field of Dreams.

Not a bigger fail than regular season college basketball. America refuses to watch it.
College basketball has done regular season gimmick games in the past and no one cares since it still regular season college basketball.

Hoosiers is the second most overrated sports movie, with Field of Dreams being number one, I'll give Hoosiers some credit for not being a total sapy snoozefest like Field of Dreams. The Fish That Save Pittsburgh is a thousand time more entertaining than Hoosiers and it even has a short white guy shooting set-shots, which is something fans of Hoosiers seem to love.

At least Hoosiers was based (with some artistic license, of course) on a true story. The only thing that was entertaining about The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh to me was the fact that some people I know got cameo roles. (I was actually part of the crowd when they filmed the finals game, but I didn't make it on camera.)

"We"????

except anyone with half a brain would recognize that the LAST thing Field of Dreams was about was baseball.
It's always mentioned in the list of "greatest" baseball movies, that's what I'm going by. Also, a lot of the best sports movies aren't about the sport, Rocky and Rocky Balboa aren't about boxing, Breaking Away isn't about cycling, The Way Back isn't really about basketball and so on.

I never saw Field of Dreams. I don't know why. I never really was motivated enough to watch it. It is weird like that. I have seen the Natural a 100 times. I love the original Bad News Bears. So it is not like I am anti baseball movies.

It isn't about baseball.

Its a movie about a father/son relationship ship with the plot revolving around a baseball field and ghost players so there's enough baseball in it to say its a baseball movie.
That's like saying the Great Escape was about motorcycles. Or the Graduate was a movie about Italian cars. Or Ben Hur was about chariot races.

It isn't about baseball.
It’s an overwrought metaphorical flick with baseball as it’s medium for the pseudo-spiritual “deeper message”. Bull Durham was the same sort of thing. Overcooked and sappy but I enjoyed them both anyway. Kind of lesser versions of The Natural, which I consider to be a great movie.

As for Hoosiers, I understand the criticisms, but I really like the movie and watch it every fall.

no, it isnt

It is simply about this;

"dont be afraid to chase your dreams".

The aerial view at the end of the movie, showing headlights for miles is symbolic of the entire movie.

A really good story IMO

It made me cry thinking about my Dad. Great family man, totally unselfish.

I agree it may not be "about baseball" but its a "baseball movie." If this isnt a baseball movie, is any sports movie an actual sports movie? Every sports movie has some deeper underlying meaning.

I'm sure you rewatch the Bad News Bears frequently.
