He turned down like 70 Mil. Good on him if he’s happy at UConn.

Did he squeeze a raise out of his current employer?

Per some sports talking heads opinion, the Lakers low-balled him at $70 million when it is considered on an annual basis vs total length of contract basis.

The Lakers, beyond name value, aren’t a great franchise especially for a guy trying to make a jump from college. The Buss family isn’t loaded, they don’t have a ton of picks, then you have the LeBron sideshow. When you consider cost of living, he’ll probably be making roughly the same once he signs a new deal.

Anyway, the college game needs personalities/villains. It’s always been a coach-driven game and there’s just not a lot of guys left with the gravitas/personality to be engaging on a national level. Hate him or love him, Hurley is probably the face of college basketball until he decides to go to the NBA or retire.

In the past 12 seasons the Lakers have finished better than seventh in the Western Conference one time. And that was the bubble season, when they finished in first and won it all.

You know who else turned down the Lakers??

They said the Lakers offered like $11 million per year and he's getting $10 million from UConn and he's more secure now and living in a cheaper place with less taxes and won't have to kiss LeBron's ass every day.
