They might be a good team next year. This year....too many bad sets for a number of reasons they aren't good for long stretches. I like that Toney cut the hideous hair, and I love Capel playing drum even when he sucks. Next year and maybe the end of this year we will start to see a team that can make some noise. Right now we aren't. But it is coming. Brick by brick , and that includes the shots.
Too weak an inside game this season to make the NCAAs, IMHO. Next year should be different with more and better bigs on the roster--unkess Hugley, Amadasun and Colier disappoint as freshmen.
This year expectations: NIT. Next year: tourney bid. Progress is happening.
We don't have much depth That is our Achilles Heel. That and the lack of a 20 year old Bill Walton in the post.
Depth?--yes. A 20 year old Bill Walton? No--just a player or two who will give us better inside defensive rebounding to take away our opponents 2nd and 3rd chances and on the other end get us some 2nd and 3rd chances ourselves. We may have that next year if our incoming recruits pan out early in their college careers. And that would also improve our depth.
It all depends on whether we can continue to improve defense and rebounding..This team looks good when shots are falling. The difference between average and good teams is what happens when shots aren't falling. The team that can get stops on defense and rebounds on offense can overcome a poor shooting performance. This team isn't there yet but there are signs that they are on their way.
