I came to an unfortunate conclusion regarding next years game

THe only chance for a bowl matchup is the pinstripe.... and PSU likely won't play in that bowl two years in a row.

I'm saying this as a fan of college football and taking off my Blue & Gold glasses-fans of all teams tend to over exaggerate when your team either wins or loses, and that's what you're doing. psu is getting a huge influx of talent and as much as i hope you're right, that Pitt crushes psu next year, i think that talent is going to make your coaches look magically better sooner rather than later.

That said, I'd love to play and beat you guys in a bowl game this year.

PSU fan here too. Pitt beats us this year (if we would have played), and also will beat us next year. The next 3 games after that will be competitive. Definitely think Franklin is a great recruiter, but our Offensive Coordinator is terrible. I like that Narduzzi at least went out and tried to get the best coordinators he could, instead of just hiring his buddies. I think the media perception of Franklin not being a good coach is overrated, because as a head coach, you don't necessarily have to be the best Xs and Os guy. However, it is a head coaches job to hire the best coordinators available, and in that regard, he has failed. Our OC and Oline are terrible, and don't belong at a program like penn state. Just because they are buddies doesn't mean they should stick around

Losing Boyd and Conner? Can't see how we beat PSU next year.

Yea. Pitt will win next year. The talent levels are close. Your QB will be making his first road start and Franklin isnt a good enough coach to win a game vs a team with similar talent. The last 3 are going to be very tough for us though. Franklin is going to have to screw his blue chips up pretty bad, which I think he can do but it'll be tough.

Shoop was a good hire. But our staff is full of young, energetic guys, who have Franklin's personality and like to recruit. However, I'm unsure if they can COACH? It is good to have guys like that, but you can't fill your entire staff with the same type of people.

Again, the one thing that impressed me about Narduzzi was how he filled his staff - he went out and looked nationwide, and hired guys even if he didn't know them.

We don't need Franklin to be a dynamite game day coach, as I still think most of that falls on the coordinators. But he does need to get a better coaching staff. I think Narduzzi has a better staff from top to bottom.

Franklin is a used car salesman and hired all used car salesman and Shoop. The good news is you are assured of at least 8 wins every season because of the recruiting and your crappy conference and overall schedule.

Pitt will beat PSU. We are very, very unlucky, but also very, very poorly coached. We can't win true road games and are one of the worst teams on 3rd down I've ever seen. Good luck rest of season, hope to play you guys in bowl game

Penn State will finish the season with 4 straight losses including today and their bowl game. Hackenberg will go pro and their new QB next year will be playing his first road game. Pitt should have the edge, but Penn State has talent and a great RB, Barkley.

Again, Pitt wins this year and next year. We do not have the talent, depth, or offensive coaching to win this game on the road. the following year we will be competitive. I'm just so down on our offensive staff (Oline coach and Offensive Coordinator) that I can see us winning against Pitt on the road. If Franklin cans our offensive staff and brings in someone capable, we have a shot next year. If we come in with this year's game plan, we lose.

How is that? Who will throw the ball for Penn State?

Stack the box...game over.
LOL...you must be coach Ditka
Their QB will throw the ball to talented receivers V porous Pitt backers
And handoff to one of the best RB s in the country.

The way I look at it is if Pitt is the favorite heading into the game next year, I'll feel really good. Only because Franklin cannot win as an underdog. PSU has more games this year to prove me wrong, but right now, facts are facts.

PSU unlucky? Hah! That's a good one.

Can we borrow your d-linemen for the rest of the year? How many of those guys do you lose this year.

MICHIGAN and MSU are much better football teams than State this year.
Not a real big deal for both to beat State

My point was PSU/Franklin has some more opportunities this year to prove they can win as the underdog.

(Edit: My bad - I just read PSU was favored at game time. Oops.)

Personally I find Frankie to be, outwardly, a big mouth creep....But also putting together a damn good football team regardless as to whether State beats either UM or MSU ...

As long as Franklin is the guy coaching them, I'm not worried about PSU. He'll find a way to screw it up.

The argument can be made that putting together a "damn good football team" means jack when your game day coaching is mediocre. Ask Texas about that. And what are you basing this "damn good football team" opinion on? Recruiting rankings?

Watching them...They are pretty good right now and are already feeding in good young talent. And you can bet I've seen enough football that I don't need to make an opinion based on "recruiting rankings"...
But he is bringing in players who have been chased down by the best programs in the country...in case you haven't been aware of that

Nobody here has more dislike for the pompous ass State outfit than I do....But not going to let that lead into some of the ridiculous statement s made here about the team being built up there.

We'll see who's right next year...soon enough

Seriously - they are pretty good right now? Ooooooookay. Hackenberg has regressed. Their O line stinks. Their ST's are atrocious. Short of Barkley, are we watching the same team?

Probably not...based on your postings

Maybe you could get a clue as to why their O line stinks...oh and btw it might not have hurt to see what Hack had done in the past 5 or 6 games coming in to today.

Like I said I'll b see how it plays out

Wait - you aren't insinuating "the sanctions" yet again, are you? Oh and btw - the new excuse is that PSU has had to play without a bye!!!!!!! That's it! The horror of it all! I mean playing the first 6 games in the state of PA, with 5 in a row at home and only their 2nd true road game, well, I'm horrified for them. Give me a break.

Yes, they're such victims. Please pray for the PSU football team.
NCAA is a bunch of money hungry cowards for not shutting down that worthless cow farm.

What QB is that?

Please be specific.

A freshman or sophomore starting his first game on the road?..that always works out great.

Got it.

They haven't beaten a single team with a pulse. Maryland and Illinois fired their coaches right before the State games and were led by interim coaches. Their other wins were Buffalo, Army, SDSU, Rutgers, and Indiana.

Northwestern beat them with a back up QB after their freshman starter was injured on a helmet to helmet hit.

How would I know who starts...maybe it will be Hack
And it won't be much of a road game although a first game could be difficult..But not impossible..don't think Alabama will suddenly show up.

But you got it all figured out coach Ditka
Stack the line...kick somebody's ass too??
Lol

Hey Paul - you feel bullish about PSU? Good for you. I have no problem with supporting your team. But why not head home to those who are more sympathetic to your cause because facts aren't your friends in this discussion.

I see Pitt in a rebuilding New Coaching Era and is lucky to have Narduzzi that will keep coaching them up, but needs more recruiting talent and that takes time?

I see Penn State in their Third Year Rebuilding New Coaching era that has been collecting talent in recruiting but needs time to incorporate them into a better Team?

I also see WVU in the same boat but with 5 years of Holgrosen that has been improving them but going up against better Coaches, Teams, and Programs right now?

If Pitt-WVU-Penn state all played this year, they would all be Toss Up Games and all 3 Teams could still finish at 7-5 or 8-4. All all rebuilding and that takes time.

Pitt Challenge is now recruiting better and UNC, ND, Iowa were just better!

Penn State challenge is coaching better and Temple, OSU, MSU, and Michigan are just better!!

WVU challenge is the Big-12 and OU, OKSU, TCU and Baylor are just better!!!

How they all meet their challenges will determine their future growth to becoming a Top 25 Team, but very even and average to good maybe right now, as I see it?

Favored against who? I thought NW was a 3 point favorite.

Hack ain't coming back.... If he graduates, he will transfer to get some real coaching at another school or turn pro...

PSU was a 1.5 pt fav at game time. I guess there must have been a helluva lot of money on them yesterday, because NW was a slight fav on Friday.

Would not surprise me at all. I've noticed a lot of really, really dumb Penn State fans when it comes to gambling. I visited the Ohio State board once (the free one is not much of a board, nobody even goes on it.) But a Nitter literally said him and his friends all broke their cardinal rule and bet the house on Penn State because the line in that game was laughable to them. For one, the bookies are way smarter than any fan or even analyst, so these people are obviously living in a fantasy world. Secondly, who on Earth can claim to know anything at all about football and think the line in that game was laughable. I'd have to look it up, but I'm pretty sure if you bet against PSU every game this season, you would have won way more than lost and reeled in a good bit of money this season.
