"9nationalchampionships, post: 1046136, member: 3376"]I have many friends that are PSU alums and fans. They do idolize Joe for what he did for PSU but also believe he helped conceal JS.
Agree, the Best Penn State fans and any other fans including Pitt to other Programs know about the strengths and weaknesses of each Coach, Players, Teams, and Programs with no shame or pride intended or needed. Paterno was a Great Coach that did build a Top 15 Program that benefits and did contribute in many aspects of making CFB better and not just for Penn State, Big Ten, but all of CFB, Players, and Teams. No problem acknowledging that whatsoever nor being upset if some others disagree, I can always respect that kind of Poster to agree to disagree, with no offense taken.
Yet, Paterno admits and his actions also reveal he made some some mighty grave mistakes, misjudgments, as well on building up those Players into Top Teams, within making the PSU FB Program stronger and better, and was by no means some kind of perfect coach, man, or icon, and had dark side on being too competitive.
Even more evident, was the revelations of how and when he did do great things, but at the same time the way he did some other things, resulted in a scandal that did affect his mixed legacy of success in building up the Penn State Brand and Fame. However, to be fair Paterno's own zeal without Institutional oversight and with hidden dishonor ended up also shaming Penn State name.
The fans on BWI are most likely not alums but fans and feel Joe did everything possible to stop JS. Big difference.
Even Paterno knew and cried about that too, before he died. Yet, some on BWI and many PSU Fans that are not Alumni prefer to blame others and cannot accept maybe some things did go seriously wrong? Of course Paterno does not deserve all the blame, but he cannot escape his relationship and participation either. Part of that aspects of his personality and practices actually led to causing much of the success but also much later found out disgrace, and being covered up for 14 years and 40+ years does bring forth victims both those actually hurt by his methods, as well as loved and enjoyed by his successes as Coach and on the GridIron.
The PSU BWI Posters have a group that cannot accept what Paterno admitted, and refuse to recognize Penn State may be special to them as an University, Program, and Teams. But at the same happens at every School, and tearing down anyone that challenges the success, mistakes, and results of Paterno coaching and legacy is fair game as much as recognizing the great contributions Paterno made too?
However, these ignorant hateful few PSU Fans even attack their own Best Posters that know far more about Penn State and could argue the good and aspects of Penn State University, FB Program, Teams, Players, and Coaches, but have been chased away, no longer post, and understand something went seriously wrong at Penn State and that cannot be erased either, and happen during the Paterno Success Era?
