With Big John and Odukale, but he is clearly crazy.

You don’t have much. Possibly alienating what you have is not a good idea.

Capel, unless he missed it, does not have the job security of a Boeheim at Syracuse.

But there’s still gotta be a line, no?

I will not claim to have any clue of what’s going on. I was as surprised as anyone in how little they played. But what if there’s more to it? You can’t compromise standards too much. I know he said in his post game they weren’t playing good but I also know he’s not just gonna air them out. Not at this point anyway.

Nothing bad enough existed to keep them from starting.

Poor play and bad body language?

Does the same standards apply to poor coaching and bad body language?

or is this the NEW Capel? Comical!!!

I would imagine the same standard does apply. And if things don’t get better he’ll be gone eventually.

Doesn’t work the same way for coaches and players - should be obvious but maybe it isn’t. But again if this garbage continues he’ll be let go.

He said they weren’t playing well. Isn’t that what you want a coach to do, take someone out who is not playing well? And the guys who replaced them came through. Maybe they needed that to motivate them.

It is his garbage situation that he created.

Let him do what he thinks he needs to do to clean it up.

From his perspective... if he is hanging on by a thread, he might as well try everything he can.

Part of me admires the courage. Let him do it.

Look... this season is going to be a single digit win season likely. He should be given the rope to do what he thinks he needs to do. If it doesn't work, he will be gone anyway.

You are right. I am just being selfish.

What difference would it really make if our two best players left tonight?

it actually would be for the best as it would hasten Capel’s demise.

If a guy can’t take being benched when he isn’t playing well, maybe he should get on with his life’s work.

How bad is 7 points and 5 rebounds in 19 minutes? The team was a whopping -2 with him in the game.

what did Burton’s start of the game look like?

I’m no Capel defender. I said the other day it wouldn’t bother me if he was let go as unconventional as it may be. But I have to believe he had reason to sit his 2 best players. He has to know he’s on thin ice as it is. He’s gonna do what he feels is in the best interests of his team/program. And he’ll live or die accordingly.

It was a Ted Lasso-like move.

Same feelings here. I’ve been an early and often critic of Capel/the staff, but I have a ton of respect for stuff like this. At least to an outside observer, he’s obviously on the hot seat so to still be willing to sit his two best players for extended periods in a game they couldn’t afford to drop says a lot about his character. Hopefully the players take the message and address the issues, as their coach took quite a risk in order to get a point across to them.

You clearly don’t like Capel so you will criticize anything be does. Who’s the crazy one here?

Why do Capel’s Teams always have issues like this? It happens consistently. It appears it is character problem after character problem. Bottom line it appears it is on the head coach. Very sad.

Exactly. This should be the main concern, same pattern all 4 years here. Every season it's been this kind of crap.

You play who is playing well. Both had bad TO’s and other guys came in, stepped up and helped us to a win. No explanation needed.

He should have done this from day 1. Maybe he and the AD have a plan , that plan includes at least another year , if you don't play your tail off have a seat? Everyone here understands that much, eh?

Did big John do anything other than the “body language” thing? I didn’t see every minute of the game, but to me it looked like he was playing hard and was certainly active.

It is up to the head coach to build a cohesive team. Like someone said, this stuff has happened every year he has been here. I appreciate playing kids with great attitudes and sitting kids with bad attitudes. But, he is significantly responsible for getting his kids heads on straight. While I appreciate he didn't like how Hughley and Femi were playing/attitude, he could have been a bit more diplomatic in his statement. "love those guys, we need them to be leaders, they have a great future if they work at it". Look, Capel may be gone at the end of this year or sooner, but his contract sets him up for life, if he wants it to.

lets have a roll call.

who on this board is currently “happy” with Capel?

Why in hell would anybody be happy with him?

You’re on here enough and should know the answer. There are some who think he should have more chances but there are few if any that are truly happy. And you’re right - how could you be.

My biggest issue / question with Femi is, why is he not trying to shoot the 3.

Femi was a good shooter from 3 in prep school, almost 40%.

Femi made 34% from 3 last year coming off a broken arm. He was consistently making 3's at the end of last year against ACC teams.

Femi is shooting 40% from 3 this year.

Femi's free throw issues have nothing to do with making open 3 point shots. He's barely looking to shoot the 3 and I cannot understand if this is because of Capel or because of something else. Shoot the ball already. Nate finally got the green light and look what happened last game.

I don't understand how folks can complain that Coach doesn't discipline his players but then complain when he does.
I don’t think there has been any discipline since he got here. Maybe discipline it’s not the right word. More like mass confusion.

Lol of ALL the things to criticize this staff for, and there are many, disciplining or sitting players who aren’t playing well or are being bitches is not one of them. This was the right and easy move.

He had a horrible turnover that led to an uncontested dunk on the other end that put them up by 7. That is why he sat.

That gets you the rest of the game off?

Not 5 or 10, The rest of the game?

Agree - it’s not like he is the only guy on the team that gives up bad turnovers.

Make him sit for a little bit, but tell him to go make it up to the team.

He made a bunch of mistakes on defense, not helping out. If you see the extended highlights you can see.
