I don’t know what he thinks he is doing

My biggest issue / question with Femi is, why is he not trying to shoot the 3.

Femi was a good shooter from 3 in prep school, almost 40%.

Femi made 34% from 3 last year coming off a broken arm. He was consistently making 3's at the end of last year against ACC teams.

Femi is shooting 40% from 3 this year.

Femi's free throw issues have nothing to do with making open 3 point shots. He's barely looking to shoot the 3 and I cannot understand if this is because of Capel or because of something else. Shoot the ball already. Nate finally got the green light and look what happened last game.
That my gripe

Gary, this is a terrible line in the sand to draw. He wasn’t playing well. He was pouting. He was disciplined with the only weapon Capel has. This isn’t hard.
Pay him no mind. He gets a hard on for something and drones on and on and on and repeats and repeats and repeats. Like posting the Capel mansion tweet as well.

I mean, I’m hardly a capel Stan but this was possibly the first thing that the entire fan base should’ve been on board with. If he just let those two go he might as well have resigned after the game.

Where in the game tape are you seeing Femi cry or complain or put his head down or look angry? Because I posted the game tape and Im not seeing it. If you want to see angry, look at Xavier Johnson in his first game at Indiana when he was benched 5 minutes in after his 3rd turnover. No where did Femi look remotely close to that unless Im missing something not on the tape.

I agree with the decision on John. I dont see anywhere on the tape the problem with Femi.

Same.

I think there’s little to no chance he gets anything going here. But if he doesn’t enforce certain things he’ll have zero chance. If kids start doing whatever they want or acting however they want and he lets it go he’s doomed no matter what. There has to be some line that just can’t be crossed without consequences.

He should have enforced it, with John. Unless someone else can show me something on the actual video otherwise with regard to Femi.

I’m only going by the clip of Capel’s presser. And like I’ve posted previously his seat’s warm if not hot. He could choose to play them no matter what as they’re clearly the 2 best players. So I have to think he has good reasons for sitting them. Pure speculation or conjecture but I also happens to believe there may be more to it. Maybe they’re dogging it or having attitudes in practice. And maybe I’m out of my mind. But I think what we see publicly is usually just a small percentage of the entire story.

I listened to Capel's presser which is below. At the 50 second mark of this video, the head coach says Femi came in in the 2nd half and had really good energy, positive energy, Then later on he says that Femi didn't have good energy.

I don't see it in the game tape the problem with Femi when he was on the bench. But Capel's own comments on Femi are conflicting. I don't know if Capel got Femi confused with someone else or something else happened not caught on the game video.

What I do see in the actual game tape of the 2nd half, almost every time Pitt scored, Femi was clapping and cheering our guys on from the bench. If Capel benched Femi for playing poorly then that is fine. I don't see an actual attitude problem at all with Femi when he was on the actual bench.

Xavier is way better than Femi. It’s very clear at this point. Femi will have to transfer down after this year.

It doesn’t matter what you see. It matter what the coach sees and hears. How do you know what he said to anyone on the court? You don’t.

Maybe he can team up with Morton and win big at a mid major.

I mean… Morton played 16 minutes for the #6 team in the country today against UNC. If people still don’t think we could’ve used him.. AND Femi, not sure what to tell you.
Pitt could use him, sure. But you hate on Femi constantly but somehow excuse Morton’s below average performance. Unless you think 2 points is a great P5 contribution?

Do you think if they switched roles Morton would not be doing most likely the same thing with the amount of shots, etc? Neither one is gOnna end up good enough to move the needle unfortunately.

someone on every team in America puts up numbers in points and rebounds. They’re meaningless if you’re on the trajectory of an 0-18 team.

Conveniently we’ll never know. But wake me the next time Morton does anything meaningful.

Not sure that can be determined at this point. It's a way over reaction at this point in time.
I'm not saying you won't be right.
But just saying i don't think that's known yet

If he ever averages 6 assists per game passing to Terrell Brown, I’ll agree with your assessment bud

Femi's assist rate is actually higher than X's right now this very season. And Femi is on a far worse team, with far more inexperienced and younger players, and has had zero other guards to play with besides Burton who just came back. Femi currently has the 3rd highest assist rate in the entire ACC Conference right now on a team that has 1 total three point shooter who is a freshmen.

On top of that, Femi is playing on a team that is one of the slowest teams in the entire country in tempo and on a team that doesn't have a Top 300 offense in the country as it stands today.

Im not sure Levance Fields would be averaging over 5 assists per game with this current Pitt team right now and Fields was on of the best passing point guards nationally out of everybody dating all the way back to 2009.

The pressure on Femi the last 4 games has been enormous to say the least. Slow it down with the hate on this kid.

Do you agree with the pacing of this team?

Yes.

Preseason before everything happened, I fully expected this team to dial up defensive pressure with trapping and some pressing. Last year we had success with this before players were getting hurt and quitting.

Femi was very good in these situations last year creating turnovers as was our defense when we were extending defensive pressure and forcing turnovers. That simply cant happen with 1 guard or with Burton now, 2 guards. And this team needs to clean up the turnovers, everybody.

Capel recruited these guys. He's responsible and accountable for them being here. If he wants to bench them for whatever reason for Towson, then he should be willing to bench them for a game against Duke or UNC as well. I guarantee he won't be so willing against ACC teams. His double standards and lack of consistency in how he runs this program and enforces what he calls "standards" (that's laughable) are on display. That's why he will be gone soon enough. Probably not this year, unfortunately. But soon enough. Hopefully. His act is old now, and I do mean ACT.

As I said in the other thread, 1.19 points per possession against when either or both of Hugley and Odukale were on the court and 0.65 points per possession against when they were both on the bench.

The fact that people could see that and not understand what was going on mystifies me.

My issue is i don't understand why passing up fast and getting a good look before the defense is set is not encouraged.
I actually think by choosing to play like VA they'll lose more games. But it seems conventional wisdom. So i guess I'm wrong.
But this goes back since Capels beginning. Did we ever play fast or even medium?

We were 165 in adjusted tempo last season, which is just about as medium as you can get. The two years before that we were 308 and 206.

The fewer number of possessions in a game the more theoretical variance the game will have. The better team doesn't want variance, the better team wants the better team to win. Certainly there is more that goes into it than that, but the more possessions you have in a game the better the chance that the team that is more efficient (ie better) will win.

Yes and i can get down with that.
I just think sometimes there's an opportunity to get easy open shots on a quick pass up.
So theoretically we should play a bit faster against shittier teams???
I just can't fathom the lack of fast break points against some of these squads.

Gary2, did you notice the coaching staff's reaction when Hugely shot that three? My theory is he was told to not shoot any threes. He shot one anyway, missed of course. Was benched because he wasn't following the coaching staff. I'm sure you'll get your wise for Capel to be fired eventually but he was correct in trying to get this team to play more disciplined.

I think he's all allowed to shoot 3s but only in certain situations. I think he should keep shooting but just at the right times.
