I sincerely have no idea why people are pissed off by this? Pitt won the game – that’s literally all that matters!
Nobody cared about this game – not even Pitt fans. Nobody will remember this, so quit freaking out.
Did they look great? Of course they didn’t. Was it a convincing or particularly satisfying win? Nope, on both counts.
Did most of the problems that plagued them throughout the season rear their ugly head again tonight? Yep.
However, this is who we are and if you haven’t figured that out by now, that’s not Pat Narduzzi’s fault.
I kept reading all of these sweeping pronouncements about how Pitt needed to blow out Eastern and all this other nonsense. They were never going to blow them out. All of our games were close. Also, all of their games were close.
This was always going to be a close game.
I’m just glad we won because playing poorly and winning against a mediocre team from an inferior conference, while not particularly thrilling, is still a helluva lot better than losing to such a team.
All the people telling you that it doesn’t count because it wasn’t impressive enough against such an average opponent are full of shit. Don’t listen to them because they are absolutely wrong.
There are no such things as moral victories and neither is there any such thing as a moral defeat.
A mediocre team played poorly and won tonight because it made one more play than another decidedly mediocre team. There is nothing else to see here.
That doesn’t mean that everything is green in the garden because we obviously still have a lot of challenges ahead of us. The overall lack of discipline is particularly galling to me.
However, nothing that happened in tonight‘s game should change anyone’s opinion about the overall direction of the program one way or the other.
