...about running the ball between the tackles. Why are we running the ball outside ? Last year we ran the ball quite well outside in a multitude of ways. What I was most impressed w/ & excited for this year was the returning of players like Alex Officer & Jaymar Parrish who were instrumental in pulling & clearing out space for Chad on so many of his bootleg or read option runs or for Conner, Ibrahim & James.
Our running game was in place to continue doing the same this year. Our Staff has decided to take the offense in a somewhat different direction which will take time to get to where our offense was beginning to get last year. And much of it has nothing to do w/ not having Conner available
I'm not saying that the new direction that the new staff is taking the offense is bad. It's just that it is going to take time for them to get the personal accustomed to running it. It took PC a few years to get his offense into gear which it was starting to shift up gears last year.
Our running game is going to suffer somewhat by going to a more dropback style passing attack. Personal running a different offense doing different roles. It is going to take time....But I would not look for our dominating running game to be anything like we had last year. I think we have traded that in for a more downfield passing attack. All I'm saying is that things are quite different than they were last year. We sacrifice much to get the option to pass downfield. At least in the short term.
Hail to PITT !!!
