And see that Georgetown made a wannstedt like move and hired Patrick Ewing ....

But then I saw where oregon state baseball is ranked #1 in america and the women's basketball team finished ranked #9

No wonder Barnes left. He is taking a better job.

Can't blame him at all.......

all hail baseball and women's hoops!! now in the real world, their hoop team was 1-17 in conference and 5-27 overall. Football much better at 4-8.

So you are the one that still reads the USAToday, huh? ;)
Please tell me you picked up in the lobby of the hotel you stayed at last night.

lol, I was just thinking that, I had no idea that paper was still around.. I remember when pitt hoops was ranked in top 5, circa mid-late 80's, they'd do a weekly ranking list. they'd have team, ranking and weekly summation. I'd cut it out and tape it to my bedroom door, highlight pitt with a yellow marker..

I wondered how long it would take for the board to make the Ewing/Wanny reference.

I really don't see the downside here. It's not like Ewing hasn't put the time in either.
he has more of a background in coaching than I knew, some decent asst coaching in the nba. Im curious about his relentless drive on the recruiting front though, some of these guys think they are "God's gift" and just showing up to a kid's house will be enough to lure them to DC. He is still a big name but it's been awhile since he was playing. We are talking 20+ years since his hey day.. not long for most of us but to a 16 year old kid, well more than a lifetime ago..

Horrible year for Wayne Tinkle and OSU basketball. After his son got hurt it was a swift downhill slide.

He's never been a head coach nor has he ever coached in college.

There are some monumentally dumb posts on this board, including ones by me... but this may be up there with one of the dumbest

He has spent 15 years as an assistant (albeit as an NBA assistant). Fifteen years is enough dues paying to deserve an opportunity. I think it is telling that so many NBA people have come out on Twitter and said how deserving Ewing is of an opportunity.

And I forgot to mention our enthusiastic donor base.......who could pass up this extraordinary opportunity. ....and leave?

Why it's such a great gig we got a new boss who oversaw a football program that drew 5000 per game.

Really terrific. ....

Your right

Barnes should have stayed. Foolish move to leave this athletic department with all the successes we've had.....
Yeah. Actually he would have likely been fired in a year (heck maybe even by now) due to the total basketball collapse ... Gallagher would need a scapegoat. Especially if football also has a tough season, ie if the offense stinks without Canada.

And then Barnes would have collected the balance of his contract (as Pederson did). A junky job like Oregon St or similar would be fairly easily available for him even if fired. Nobody holds bad results against Pitt coaches or AD because they know how awful the administrations are (one of y'all can "fix" this post by entering "fans" in place of "administration").

Barnes didn't need to make up all that stuff he did in order to get out. It would have come in short order, with a nice check too.

Well, not about that point, but now that you mentioned it, yes, he should of he had a new contract.

It was dumb because:
A. Dump on Patrick Ewing despite not knowing anything about his coaching
B. Claim Oregon st is a great job due to baseball being tops and the womens bball team being in the top 10?? Pitt had one of its better baseball seasons and is close to being ranked.
C. If Barnes did that crap job on hiring Stallings at your work, you would have have shot him. He spent all that money on a search committee to hire the same guy they hired at Vandy?? Replacing 16 years of bball dominance with an aged coach at Vanderbilt. The guy ripped us off

This is awesome.....

1) where did I crap on ewing? By comparing to wanny????

The comparison is both had pro experience and then went home. How is that crap on ewing?

If anything....in reading your rebuttal you seem to have taken a nice healthy crap on wannstedt. .....

2) from my post....I didn't say OSU is "a great job" (your words)

I said it's a better job than Pitt and two examples are excellent (not just good...but excellent) baseball and women's BB programs.

You are seriously comparing Pitt's baseball program to theirs???

Not even in the same stratosphere

And nowhere did I support Barnes actions with the hire of stallings. My main Point which you conveniently ignore is Barnes took a better job.

That's it!!!

I don't get the sensitivity of some pitt fans. It is what it is.......our program is the height of apathy.

The end

Yep, what a dream job that is. In all honesty they do have a really good baseball program. But their football and basketball programs have a long way to go to being relevant.
