I'm really proud of this Pitt football team. I recognize we're tackling as we need to in order to be a Championship level team. We're not getting enough seperation from WR's and our DB's have to turn and locate the ball better.
That said and more, this team is mostly comprised of guys whoo've never seen 8 W'S in a season. We're 6-2 in the install / transition year without our best player and an O-line that was pieced together this year. Across the board as a team, we're easily 30% better than they were last year. I'll get in trouble for such bland statement that sites a figure, but I'm hoping you guys know what I mean.
Lets keep some context in mind, these guys aren't championship caliber but they're no longer the lay down and die panthers from last year. It's HCPN's first year... he's playing with kids recruited and confused (on defense) by the Mooselodge gang... We were at best average and our last bowl victory was a nail biter against a MAC team that required 2 QB'S and James Conner playing both ways. That was everything we had.
Guy's, we're probably going to win 8 (maybe 9) regular season games. We know that to do so, its going to take everything these kids have and some stuff they need to find. We could be in line for a Bowl date in NYC, Detroit or Nashville with James and his Nitter quitters who will probably be 7-2.
There is a lot of recruiting gold to pick up still. There is a lot of football to play. This staff hasn't disappointed yet, lets see what they can do and recognize the strides that are happening.
