I thought this game

Isn’t typical home court like a 3 point advantage
At DUke, unc, KU, And uk it’s more like a 7 point advantage

Refs are human and play to these raucous crowds

The refs didn't cause us to be outrebounded 51 - 28. Duke had almost as many offensive rebounds as we had TOTAL rebounds. And the refs didn't play piss poor defense in the second half. Refs are seldom if ever the reason a team wins or loses.

I wrote in the game thread that in certain cases, Football at Notre Dame and basketball at Duke, and some will say at Yankee Stadium or Fenway… you have to win at least 110% of the game. Whether by subconscious power of suggestion, overwhelmed by the “aura” , or outright paid to do so, officials simply are inclined to favor the home team in those places. They’ll deny to the ends of earth but it’s undeniable, there are just too many outrageous calls, non-calls, pitches, these teams enjoy in extraordinary proportions in the course of basically every game, in those particular environs.

Clearly this is acceptable to everyone in those sports apparently, and not going to change, it’s been determined to be good busine$$ to “help” these teams in that manner … it’s never a total fix, but more like a subtle lean or nudge, now, that’s not so bad is it?

What it means is that a undertalented team like Pitt has to play well above its head (and/or the other team has to play like dung, much like Duke did in the first half) merely to catch up to our normal level, let alone enough to assure winning. It’s simply how it is. You have to bring it, bring it with near perfection, and for the whole game. We did not, and would likely have lost anyway…as many acknowledge…but either way the subtle bias was there in full glory.
