I will go ahead and say it...

Pitt needs fan support. The last 35 years are not working. Blaming everybody and everything is not working. And, I am a PSU fan. Drop mic.
PS is too big to fail, and Pitt is too little to succeed long term. The massive, loyal PS fan base is able to overcome even the most disgusting scandal in all of college sports. Pitt fans flee at a little adversity. I am not sure if congratulations are in order, but it is true.

The scandal is what it is. Pitt has far less to overcome.
There is nothing that could occur at PS that would stop the machine. Franklin could go on a murder spree, sanctions for cheating, players charged with gang rape, etc. Nothing matters to Nits, but winning football games. If need be, PS would fire Franklin and pay the next guy 10 million.

It wasn't the firing for me that caused this. It was the lack of planning that caused it.

It was the whole thing , from the firing , to the cheap ass hire, to Pederson having that authority after running Nebraska, it just all came to a head at that time in history for me

Nebraska has done some stupid things without Pederson. Bo was winning 9 or 10 games every year for awhile, and then they go and hire Riley.

I think many fans abandoned Pitt when they fired Wanny. I know one posted on here this weekend.

They fired Wannstedt
Then whiffed on every hire
Then brought in a lunatic who talked about Freddie Kruger and taking naps
Then fired that guy when he beat his girlfriend
Then hired a phony Texas shit kicker
Then lost him after he quit after a year
Then let Barry Alvarez place the next coach
Then punished the AD for all of this incompetence by giving him a six year contract extension

It's a wonder anyone gives these chumps a nickel after all of that

You mean the GF he had pregnant while living at home with his wife, one of his GF's that is ? Nobody wondered why a married man showed up to a big time job with his sister ? Idiots at Pitt

Nordy gave that POS a 5 MILLION GOLDEN PARACHUTE. Nobody even would trust them to spend their donations properly at this time.

I'm a Pitt fan and until Paterno pulled the plug on the series I rooted for PSU except for one week a yr .After the series ended I had no need for PSU FB and PSU was just another B10 team . The scandal is what it is and it's done and those involved have paid a price , you can argue if they paid enough , but that's a different discussion . It's time for Pitt fans to move on . How does it make anyone feel better by calling PSU PedSt and so on .
Let's face it , PSU wants to win , and they understand what a winning program brings to their community and Pitt doesn't . End of the discussion !

It's undeniable that Pitt has been pretty mediocre over the past 35 years. In most normal places in the US, fan support is a reflection of the lack of success, not the root cause. Of course in Happy Valley nothing matters except football.

I'll leave you with this thought, I'd rather be a Pitt fan, supporting an average team then a Penn State cultist, idiolizing a dead demagogue who turned his back on helpless kids in favor of football. I'd be ashamed to even associate myself with your morally bankrupt institution.

Cruzer

P.S - pick your mic back up.

To be honest, I think even if Pitt would go 10-0, it would not fill the stadium. There is too much competition for sports entertainment in Pittsburgh, and there are bigger better faster names out there like the Steelers and Pens playing better competition. A large portion of the nation may watch a Steelers game depending on what else is on, but I doubt nearly as many would watch a 10-0 Pitt team play a 10-0 PSU team.

Out in Happy Valley, your sports benefit from everything being built around PSU (plus a much better fb history). PSU is the center of the community and likely for the region. That will likely never be the case related to our region and Pitt.

No worries. Just like like Colonel Trautman said in First Blood, "The war is over Johnny". The quicker Pitt fans realize that and move on, the better they will be.

Pitt averaged 61,000 in 2003 with the Fitz for heisman team.

In your glory years, did you pack the house? If you answered yes then why would it be any different today? Fans love a winner. Give the fans good times and good memories and they'll keep coming back.

Pitt also lost their identity and fan base when they demolished their stadium. It's just not the same as an on campus stadium.

You do understand that most of the fans are not from the state college area right? They travel from all over the state and region. Your lack of fan support is not just because there are "so many sports teams in Pittsburgh".

I wasn't there for the glory years. I have been told that the house was not packed. It was a different house then too, though I am not sure that matters. Fans love a winner, but there are plenty of schools that can pack a house with several years of losing or even jsut a year of losing.

I did say "region" in my post. I have no clue if what percentage of fans travel more than 50 miles to get there, but I do know there is a large distance between state college and a major sports team.

Whoa! A nitter lecturing us about blaming others?! Say it ain't so!

When they lose a game, they blame the refs...

When their administration and HC is accused of covering up a hideous crime, they blame others...

Sheesh!

You go a PSU , OSU Michigan etc game with 110,000 screaming fans there not all the same age . It takes time to build a juggernaut like they have . There's alumni from the 60's still going to these games . The big difference is that over the yrs PSU and teams like them have constantly delivered good , winning and entertaining teams and the fans know that even in the down yrs that those schools are trying everything they can do to provide their fans a winner . Every so often when Pitt just might be getting something going the administrators step in and put the brakes on . There might be a few fans that think Pitt is doing all they can do to win , but their in the minority . Pitt gets the support they deserve and that's a shame because students , alumni and fans deserve better .
