So, I will preface this with I think there is a 99% chance Duzz fires Cignetti.
No matter how hard you guys beg and plead, Narduzzi is not going to go into his presser and say that Jurkovec sucks. He just isn’t going to do it. Pretty much no one does. What’s more alarming is that it really seems like Vellieux and Yarnell aren’t better.
QB: I think Jurkovec needs to be benched for a lot of reasons. One, he just isn’t good. Like maybe the worst Pitt QB I’ve ever seen. The missed pass the Means on the crossing pattern should’ve been the last straw.
But there is truth that it isn’t all on him. Just when I thought the OL had started to make improvements they took a giant leap back. There is also no doubt that injuries are piling up, especially at OL, and it’s catching up to them badly. Most programs don’t have that kind of depth, even the top tier programs, at OL. However, it’s not an excuse for how bad they are/have been.
Run game: Truly astonished at how bad the run game is. This isn’t an “Izzy bailed out Frank” there are literally no holes opening up at all. That OL was dominated by a VT DL that isn’t good.
Pass game: Like stated above, the QB is horrendous but it is being made worse by the OL. Yeah, Haselbeck said Jurkovec was leaving clean pockets early, and he is/was. But he was pressured all night and that’s why he was. He didn’t trust the OL that the pressure wasn’t going to get to him.. and can we blame him after watching the OL?
Bartholomew: How many times does this guy need to be like the only player to get yards after the catch and not see more targets? He gets a big catch and run in the first quarter and I don’t think he saw another pass his way until the fourth quarter? Cignetti is a TE guy and I just can’t fathom why or how that is happening.
Defense: I really don’t even know how to grade this group or even look at them. Have they been good? No, I don’t think. I know I’ve never seen a Narduzzi defense miss that many tackles in a game. They got pressure, they had the QB and RB for losses in the backfield and missed tackles. But it’s hard to grade a defense when they were on the field like the entire game. Even Pitt’s scores were quick and they were right back out there. So were they good? No. But were they bad? Idk probably not bad and would look better with some sustained offensive drives.
Transfer portal: There definitely need to be multiple OL and WRs brought in from the portal in the offseason. And a QB too.
Narduzzi: Deserves a lot of flack he’s taking. But he shouldn’t be fired. He’s won the division twice, 1 ACC Championship Game, back to back top 25 finishes, and multiple first round picks. There is no question in my mind he deserves another chance with a new OC, however, if he doesn’t fire Cignetti and they do this again next year then he needs to go.
I think a lot of you think Narduzzi is really happy with this offense and I can assure you he isn’t. If there is one thing we know about Narduzzi is that he demands a lot from his assistants and, I’m not behind closed doors, but I’m glad I’m pretty much not any of them right now, especially offensively.
I don’t think this team is as devoid of talent as a lot of you think. Can the recruiting be better? Sure no doubt, but Narduzzi has recruited at this level his entire tenure and produced a lot of good players and draft picks. The problems is in order IMO: QB, OC, injuries on the OL.
Sorry for the long post again.
