If I had an imaginary son that was a D1 recruit...

In case anyone cares.
What position would your imaginary son play ..... the 0 or the 6 position ?

I would not.

Because while coach K is a great coach and recruiter...... I do not like how he has been given a total "pass" on things that have happened in his program, and there have been things, documented, no doubt about it.

Other coaches have had NCAA victories vacated for things that they did, but when Coach K was involved in the same things nothing was pressed on Duke and nothing happened.

............see Cory Magette................. no different than what happened to UMass re Marcus Camby or going way way way back Villanova and Howard Porter..............

we can bring more.

The Howard Porter thing i remember well and the vacated final four. But, what I don't remember is, just what happened and why? Was Jack Kraft the coach then?

I could have sworn there was a story out there about Coach K running kids off who wanted to take hard classes.

Jack Kraft

Yes he was the coach - no he was not implicated in any wrong doing from what I remember. I was only 10 years old at the time but have taken an interest in these things and history. There are many forgotten stories of NCAA basketball that I love to relive. The forgotten story of East Tennessee State almost beating a #1 seed for one. But that is another chapter.

This story is about a kid who signed with an agent sometime in his 2nd semester senior year.

As far as what has been reported and known in all these years - here is my summation.

Villanova - Jack Kraft - Howard Porter - Signed with Agent - No Evidence Coach Knew Anything - Final Four Vacated

UMass - John Calipari - Marcus Camby - Signed with Agent - No Evidence Coach Knew Anything - Final Four Vacated

Duke - Coach K - Cory Magette (2nd Semester Freshman Year) - Signed with Agent - No Evidence Coach Knew Anything - NOTHING HAPPENED AFTER 3 YEAR INVESTIGATION

Double Standards.

Sure, but MSU has WAY better looking girls, and way more of them.

That would be very important to my imaginary son, just as important as his imaginary magna cum laude degree in biomedical engineering.

You have to consider these things when raising an imaginary son.

That's why I WOULD want him, I'd want a coach with the JUICE to do what he pleases and get away with it.

Then send him to USC, Ole Miss, Florida or Bama.

Texas a close 5th.

You don't even have the undisputed heavyweight champion in your top 5...

ASU by a country mile.

FSU in that group as well--while Florida is strong, FSU blows it away due to its inferior admission standards.

No school that employs Graham gets my vote for anything.

Ditto Jameis Winston.

Re: Agents and Players

I've never understood how a coach can claim ignorance about this kind of situation.

The coaches and the players are in extremely close contact for a long period, particularly in basketball. Impoverished kids suddenly sporting bling and new cars HAS to raise a red flag.

I mean, even a guy who was known to play pretty loose with the recruiting rules like Mike Gottfreid was able to find out that several of his players were taking money from an agent and kick them out.

Maybe old school guys like Kraft weren't around their players enough to know but Calipari and K are always talking about how close they are with their players. Either they are blind or chose to be blind.

Easy, if there's no way to PROVE the knowledge, you just DENY. Only an idiot confesses to a crime if it's pretty clear it can't be PROVEN.

If I had an imaginary son I would want him to be coached by John Wooden since this is an imaginary situation anyway.

Would he get imaginary $$$, too? Wooden's players got real $$*.

From the Cheap Seats; Plausible Deniablility, works in politics,

why not in sports.

Re: No school that employs Graham gets my vote for anything.

Fair enough.

If you ever waver a bit on that position, Google "ASU spring break Lake Havasu" or some variation of that.

You'll be wearing an authentic Todd Graham-issue ASU pullover the next day.

Duke may have as many One and Dones as Kentucky has this year. Please, let's stop with the notion that the Dukies are a bunch of good solid, students and kids. They may have been, but there have been as many early departures from Duke lately as North Carolina.

Again, it is brand definition and recognition. The Dukies have had their program propped on a pedestal, but look how look it took for a rapist like Rusheed Sulaimon to be dismissed from the Duke team. Coach K had to know about the charges.

College sports is just big business. It is the NFL and NBA, only they are run by egg head nerds who mostly were bullied in school, and now they get to act like the cool kids (think college presidents) and the football or basketball coach is the KING BULLY and dominate figure on campus getting millions of dollars, even when the schools are otherwise cutting academic programs.

Please stop this illusion.........that college sports, at least big time college sports is anything about the "student athlete".

Never be STUPID ENOUGH to give in. I can't see how anyone would confess to a crime and accept punishment if they can get away with it? For example, I'm avoinding jail at ALL COSTS, no matter what I did, or who I killed and buried, no amount of "guilt" is going to have me volunteer for a life in a "cage".

Re: From the Cheap Seats; Plausible Deniablility, works in politics,

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

There are 18 McDonald's All Americans in the Final Four this year. 17 of them play for Duke or Kentucky. The only difference between them is that Cal is seen as an outlaw, while K is seen as a saint. K is always lauded as the best coach of this era, but I'll take Jim Calhoun over him all day. K has an endless stream of McDonald's, and Parade All Americans, while Calhoun took over a nothing program, and won 3 titles with mostly 3 and 4 star guys.
