I'm super happy with the way our class is shaping up, but I had no idea State Penn was loading up. On scout they've got 10 4 star or higher players.

When we start getting those kinds of classes + our superior coaching, we'll be unstoppable.

Granted, I think we still embarrass PedoState on 9/10/16 even if they do have more stars because Franklin is just in over his head.

It is no vice in recognizing and respecting Penn State Great Program bringing in Top Recruits too, and Pitt Fans can be forthright, gracious and magnanimous.

Yet, Pitt has always brought in better quality Recruits that became higher Awarded Players over Penn State entire History.

Agree, kind of reminds me of 1973 when Pitt challenge Penn State and out recruited them with better Players that Penn State had in abundance. But Pitt caught up quickly and passed Penn State up to win a National Championship 4 years later and took Penn State Paterno another 6 Years to do too!

Quite remarkable when one consider how much more Recruiting resources Penn State has had for over 50 years, and still cannot match the Best of Pitt Players over that same period?

Granted, I think we still embarrass PedoState on 9/10/16 even if they do have more stars because Franklin is just in over his head.
Franklin Class has been dropping against Ohio State, Michigan, MSU and PITT rising and that makes it tougher for Franklin that chose to talk more than he coached?

Narduzzi never doubted himself or his Staff and just does what he does bets too, take the Players that want to come to Pitt, and coach them up to become Top Players on Game Day, and End Of The Years Players Award Seasons in College, Conferences,a and the NFL, and that coaching does better than any talking about what Franklin has a plan to do.

Today, it has dawned on even the Dumbest Penn State Cultists Fan like PnnyLiar that Franklin's challenge is now not just trying to beat Michigan, Ohio State and MSU coaching in recruiting and has not beaten them on the GridIron, but now PITT Narduzzi too?

The Smartest Penn State Fans already knew it and we should welcome such Smart Penn State Fans on the Lair where they discuss good football about both Programs and Teams.

The very Best Pitt and Penn State Fans know both Programs way back in the 1970s-80s actually made each other better and help each other win National Championships!

The Mockers and Doubters like BWI's PnnyLiar or Lair's South of Oakland, never prevail by talking down on Pitt or Penn State. Both Programs have far better smarter Posters and Fans that respect both Programs Accomplishment without fear or ignorance like those two Dumb to Dumber!

PSU commits with Narduzzi offers: 15
Pitt commits with Franklin offers: 0

Franklin doesn't offer kids he wants that he thinks Narduzzi has a chance to get. Narduzzi, on the other hand is not afraid to offer kids, even if he doesn't think he has a chance. Pryts is an example. And this is Narduzzi's first cycle as opposed to Franklin't second. We'll check back next year on this.

What?
Both coaches are offering the best players who they think can help their team win on Saturdays. You get paid $1M plus, you better have that mentality or leave the profession.

This is becoming a trend as smarter recruits see better coaching at Michigan, Ohio State, MSU, and now at PITT!

There was an Article just read showing the Top Recruiting Classes already in 2017 and Franklin's Penn State was not on it.

At the same time, to be fair, Franklin is still a formidable Recruiter with Penn State's Program Revenue Recruiting Resources is so much higher than MSU, IOWA, WISKY, and PITT!

Additionally, there are now 28 University Programs that produce over $100 Million a Year, and 18 of them are in SEC and Big Ten. Just a few years ago, there was only 3 and that was Texas, Alabama and Ohio State?????

Still, Franklin is now facing far better coaching that is beating him on the GridIron and now in recruiting if he can't coach up his Players on Game Day. This is what doomed Foge Fazio in 1980s.

As Pitt, Rutgers and Maryland Coaches also do better on the field along with New Coaches at UVA, VT, Miami, & Cuse, will cause Narduzzi and Franklin to up there game on recruiting and coaching?

As I have stated many time, Franklin challenge is Meyer, Harbaugh, Dantonio and now Ash and Durkin too.

Narduzzi challenge is Richt, Mendelhall, Fuente, Fedora, Babers, Cutcliffe, Johnson, now too.

Franklin can still finish higher but his Coaching cannot be replaced by a Plan, it takes focus on Coaching on game Day not Tweets and Texting and Emails on today or yesterday or blaming his Staffers?

Coaching Character Matters!

Good observation and Wannstedt did the same, turning Gems from rough cut diamonds other could not see just needed some polishing. Yet, Coach Dave & Staff was not always to coach those Gems up on Game Day or Half Time Adjustments, to be fair but loved Pitt Traditions and Program to make them better?

Pitt Narduzzi is also a year behind with far less talent from last year due to being named coach compared to Penn State Franklin that had Recruiting Classes of 24th and 15th last two years by poaching recruits.

Still, Franklin has a PLAN Narduzzi has COACHING!

No doubt about it. We'll see what happens.

I'm not sure about your first sentence though. Are they really seeing that? Look at PSU commit list for '15 and '16 - it's littered with players with offers from OSU, UM, MSU, and Pitt. Am I not seeing your point?

The defense is by and large coached by Bob Shoop and he's done a tremendous job. Everybody knows that. The offensive identity - not so much. We'll see what Moorhead can bring to the table.

Especially when you care about being paid over $4.5 Million, and have far more Revenue Recruiting Resources in a Top 15 Program that an Administration, Alumni, and Fans DEMAND you beat Michigan, Ohio State, and MSU too!

Moreover, when you brag you will DOMINATE other Universities Program but get Dominated on Game Day by Temple, Northwestern this year, and Maryland and Illinois last year, let alone MSU, Michigan and OSU in both years....well, that GAME PLAN better start producing more than just recruiting?

Pretty simple, if CF doesn't start beating 2/3 of UM, OSU and MSU by '17 he'll be out by the end of '18. They'll struggle again in '16 with not so good OL and new QB so that'll be his last pass. Again Cap, he delegates his duties. It's Moorhead's offense and Shoop defense, Franklin will have his input but that's about it.

when ped state's defense isn't facing backup qbs, interim coaches and your typical charmin schedule, they get exposed. and that's with one of the best dt tandem in football. 34 vs ohio state, 30 vs maryland, 23 vs northwestern, 28 vs michigan, 55 vs michigan state. yeah shoop deserves a lot of credit hahaha

I agree and we all know Recruiting can be nebulous on offers and even when one acquires a recruit, it is still up to coaching that recruit up and setting a right attitude, and that cuts both ways, on the Coaches & Players!

In addition, injuries play a role and inexperience too in their replacements. Let face it PITT, WVU & PSU all need improvement and had younger Players and why came close to being ranked Teams but all fell short, just due to the Talent and Inexperience Factors against ND, Baylor, MSU, Michigan, UNC, Oklahoma, TCU, Miami, OKSU, Ohio State, NW, Iowa, KSU and Temple?

For example, Michigan is graduating 40 some Players this year and now Harbaugh will have to deal with inexperience Players against Franklin that has more experienced players???

However, Game Day Coaching maters far more than just Recruiting Rankings & Offers is my point!

The defense is by and large coached by Bob Shoop and he's done a tremendous job. Everybody knows that.
Sure, but even he was unable to stop blow outs by OSU, MSU, and could not beat Temple, and Michigan let alone give up 30 points against Maryland? Pitt Coaching has Pitt in every game in Narduzzi's First Year, WVU too in Dana's 5th year!

Shoop loses 6 Starters too, but so does MSU, OSU, and Michigan losing just as many? So now we will see how Shoop does this year? He now knows that if he does not do well, he will be fired like Donovan?

Franklin Character is not as loyal as he talks, look how many recruits last year were told they get a chance a play, and then see that not many played?

The offensive identity - not so much. We'll see what Moorhead can bring to the table.
Moorhead has some proving to do and far more experienced players to do it with and Edsall speaks highly of him,, and I like him very much too, BUT FRANKLIN STILL WEARS THE HEAD SET ON GAME DAY TOO?

Again, it not what Franklin and Moorhead can prove in 2016, it is still what Harbaugh, Dantonio, Ferentz and Meyer have PROVEN over the last 10 years, and Franklin still trying to prove he can beat them?

Now Iowa, Michigan, OSU, and MSU are losing far more starters than Penn State as well as Temple and so now we will see how Franklin does in 2016?

This is Franklin's Third Year with Top Recruits from 24th and 25th and another Top 10-25 Ranked Classes, based on various Rankings?

A Plan can't make anyone be better, only Game Day Plans and Coaching can!

Fair comment and good discussion.
They'll struggle again in '16 with not so good OL and new QB so that'll be his last pass.
They have a better OL, Barkley and Sanders and maybe a Running QB, with great Wideouts. Morrhead has much more to work with than Donavan with one more year of experienced players!

Again Cap, he delegates his duties.
All Great Coaches do, but Paterno did not wear a Head set, I used to marvel watching him on the Sidelines without a Head Set, when his Players came off the field, he would be grabbing them and coaching them up showing techniques to play better.

When I stood behind the bench one time on the field, as a guest from a close PSU Alumnus, he would turn to his Staff, and just say, TIME FOR A LONG BOMB, they implement the play.

Narduzzi is doing the same with Pitt with a Head Set, but Franklin is not doing neither!

It's Moorhead's offense and Shoop defense, Franklin will have his input but that's about it.
Agree, but this is why Penn State dropped to 18th on rankings on Rivals as Michigan and MSU have moved up! as well as dropped on Scout and 247 Sports too and not on the Top Lists right now for 2017 like Michigan and OSU?

The problem is compounded even if Franklin beats Iowa, or Michigan, or MSU or OSU or Pitt, he still has to win 10+ games too, and that is harded to do, and if he does it in 2016, he there to stay, and if he does it in 2017 even better?

Yet, if your own expectations are not met and he wins just 8 or 9 games, will you still support him?

This is on Penn State Trustees and Fans?

Penn State is a Top 15 $100 Million making Program, are you confident Franklin can beat other Big Ten $100 Million Programs with proven Coaching?

Cap, PSU still has some horses left! BTW, they're in the top 10 in ESPN, Scout, and 247.

Brenden Ferns, Tre Nixon, Jordan Fuller, Damar Hamlin, Khaleke Hudson, and Kyzir White.

Yeah if he's averaging 8-9 win seasons by the end of '17 or '18, he'll be gone. I mean that is common sense though, right?

Holgersen will be canned next year. Been underperforming since dick Rod left them with back to back to back 10 win seasons.
Not so sure, but trends that way. The way I see it, Dana finally figured out that a better Running game is more important to win the Big-12 than trying to stay with a Big Passing game?

Yet, Dana is still a very good coach, but still ignores the Defense end of the Game, like Chryst does too.

Additionally, you are correct, I know for FACT that what saved Dana was not his last 4 of 5 wins, but his huge Buyout!

Moreover, Dana still has a personal problem and is now ban at a few casinos that video bars and won't allow anyone to over consume due to liability problems. Huggins too! Sarkasian $30 Million Lawsuit against USC has caused other University President's to pause on this possibility and even though some Boosters will give Buyouts this complicates matter now.

Nemacolin Woodlands keeps an eye on both, and I know I am there often but I don't consume just bet!

Totally agree, I have always recognize and admired that Penn State built and has maintain a terrific Program.

Brenden Ferns, Tre Nixon, Jordan Fuller, Damar Hamlin, Khaleke Hudson, and Kyzir White.
Like them all and wish they come to Pitt but if they go elsewhere including Penn State so be it and better there than out of state! As a Pitt Fan I do not fear challenges, in fact to be the Best you have compete and play the Best!

I also believe it is up to Pitt to make Pitt better and blame no one until Pitt does it.

Yet, Penn State still has a divided fan base due to the Penn State Scandal and it is among the elite at Penn State. They hope Franklin wins big to unite them, but if he doesn't it just divided them.

I think Joe's biggest mistake was joining the Big Ten, sure it is more Big Bucks, but it came at the Price of less Wins and Penn State would have been the biggest School in the ACC?

Yeah if he's averaging 8-9 win seasons by the end of '17 or '18, he'll be gone. I mean that is common sense though, right?
Well, I posted many positive things about Franklin when he was appointed and predicted he would be a Great Coach, and took heat for being honest on the Lair.

Some Posters pointed out to me that Franklin Record at SEC Vandy was not as great as many think, and he is more talk than walk. So far, they are more right now but like you see, we will see?

I can say this, even if Franklin is fired or leaves Penn State after 2017, if Penn State picks a Great Coach and they can always attract one, they will be loaded with talent to win against Michigan, OSU or MSU!

Nice discussion and thanks for your views and sharing your knowledge with us! We can always agree to disagree!
