If money isn’t a factor - it’s time to move on
The lack of any real recruits for 2 years is why
I’m not giving up on Santos- but he’s not an impact recruit
There can’t be any reason other than money to keep him. Other than SMF’s fever dreams telling him that we’re a Gueye level replacement and a pg away from a bid which is laughable.

No recruits for next year and no concrete way of knowing who might come here via the portal. So other than money, there are no reasons to keep him. None.

I think we need to get over the no recruits aspect of the equation. He needs players to be game ready ASAP , he has no time to develop non elite high school players .

Once Mintz de committed the focus needed to switch to being highly aggressive in the transfer portal .He will live or die with this .

If he had 1-2 yrs left on his contract he’s gone , but he’s got 5 and that’s a lot of money . If he stays & shows progress next yr then he’s here for another yr .I don’t think he survives another poor season no matter what’s owed to him .

Yea maybe but my point is this - we don’t know who’s coming here. And based on history why would I or anyone believe he’s all the sudden gonna land guys that’ll start to turn it around? Anything’s possible so of course we don’t know. But I’m not optimistic. Hopes and prayers from transfers aren’t a reason to retain him is all I am saying.

It’s impossible to be optimistic, but if he gets 3 players equal to Mo and Burton , please one be a pg , and they don’t lose Hugley etc they could be decent .

Capel has built a house of cards. There is no reason why he shouldn’t have at least 2 players in each class. You need to have class balance. This program is already in terrible shape under Capel, but there is going to be literally nobody left if he’s fired after next season. At least Ralph Willard left behind a lot of key pieces for Howland to build from.

A PG is a must. And I know that’s obvious. They can’t keep going out there with these guys being the primary ball handlers.

And you’re right. It’s possible. Ya never know. But my point remains. IFs aren’t a reason to retain Capel this far in to his tenure.

I get what you're saying, but not recruiting is what got him in this predicament. He's had scholarships go unused and others wasted on players who shouldn't have them.

Transfers are a band-aid on a bullet hole, simply to get him another year. It's time to start over.

Class balance sounds good and the days of earning your pt in practice behind upper class men and seeing your minutes increase until you earn starter minutes in your junior yr are gone . Todays kids aren’t going to sit waiting to play .
If I was JC I’d look for dissatisfied freshman / sophomores who were 4 & 5 star kids at elite programs and grad transfers . View the sophomore transfers as your freshman . I’d only recruit high school kids if they’re special and we know how hat works out for Pitt .

No
That’s nonsense
I have issues with his actual in game coaching - but the lack of talent and depth is 100% the biggest reason to move on.
Penny is a bad coach but he’s grabbing talent
We have Nate Santos over two classes combined

My bet is he’s recruiting his ass off , he’s just been unsuccessful. Bringing in guys who in your opinion can’t play to fill an open ship is just a waste .

I have no idea what his conversations with Heather are , if she said Jeff don’t worry about the backlash from the fans you’ve got three more yrs before I’m taking action he can start over if it’s you need to start producing results then he needs transfers now !

You know what they call someone who tries hard and fails ?
A failure

we have wasted ships on the roster with Max, olaidapo, and Payton
These guys can’t play at this level
They are roster fillers for practice only

we have no point guard
Eze gets regular time as a walk-on

our most talented players transferred out

There’s a different between being optimistic and being delusional
If X and Toney stayed - it’s probably a different season
But they literally quit mid season a year after mcgowen bounced

It pretty clear Jason Capel is an asshole who doesn’t coach or recruit - just yells at opposing players and refs

I know the coach is 100% responsible for the talent on his team , but there’s not enough talent on his team to know what he’s really capable of doing strategically . Every team he’s had has had significant weaknesses . With this team whose coming in off the bench that can positively effect the game …..no one , he’s severely limited with in game adjustments because he doesn’t have the personnel .

Like I’ve said I’m all for a change , but it easy for me to say I don’t have to write the check nor do I have to fire my first big hire .

It’s year 4
All limitations are his alone
We had more talent year 2 than in year 4
Because his upgraded talent all left .
Excluding Justin

I agree there are no excuses , we’ll just have to wait and see what Heather does and Its pretty simple .

if he stays = money trumps winning
If he’s fired = winning trumps money

My bet money wins for now .

That's not true. We had a decent team last year. At least enough talent to be a bubble team. Johnson, Toney, Champagnie thats enough talent but it all fell apart in front of our eyes after the Duke win. So you have seen what he can do with a little bit of talent and it's not good

Guess you forgot that once Hugley got suspended the season fell apart .

AKC and TB inside !

I would vote to pay a $50 million buyout to hire a guarantee. I just don't want a MM lottery ticket. I have no confidence at all that Heather will pick a winning ticket and I cant sit through another Willard/Stallings/Capel. I'd rather them give Capel a lifetime contract or just cancel the program than going with a lottery ticket.

I hear money is NEVER a problem to get rid of a coach but we never have money to hire one. Lets pretend we play big boy basketball and make an SEC-type hire. The ACC blows. A hire like that and boom, we are on a double bye in 2-3 years.

36-0? I guess that proves 1) The Capel Brothers aren't lurkers on this board and 2) Vader has not seen this poll yet.
Well it’s a silly premise
If money wasn’t an issue I’d be retired , golfing everyday , and travelling with my family around the world

It’s the equivalent to a push poll

The season fell apart when the team couldn't get along with each other. Hugley was not a difference maker last year.
The season started collapsing when Hugley left , X and Toney were at the tail end of the season .

Hugley was much better than either AKC or TB .

It’s year 4 whose fault is that they we don’t have enough talent?

These are his guys.

I gave him that excuse for his coaching in year and 1/2 but now a full team of his guys is quitting on him.

And it sounds like we get year 5 of this.

The Miami game was the first game in the 11 years I have had season tickets I just chose not to go and had nothing else going on.

I guess if they keep him it will save me 20 trips to Oakland

Anyone know if you take a year off from season tickets if you still have the option to stay in your section ?

My guess would be I wouldn’t be to concerned about finding a good seat in the next few yrs !

I guess…. Kind of sad to think just 11 years ago I waited 2 years to be able to buy tickets literally in the last row of the Pete.
