If Pitt wins out, should we be in the playoff?

Don't even know how I'd answer this question without seeing everyone else's record.

We would have to most likely beat Clemsion 2x for that to happen, hard enough to win once let alone 2x

I'm not even sure Bama could get in with 2 losses, so no chance for Pitt. Michigan and OSU have both beaten Wisconsin, which is the toughest game on both schedules. Other than Nebraska going to OSU, they both play garbage until their showdown, meaning both will end the season with no more than one loss. Add Alabama as the third team. Then add Washington, Baylor, WVU, Louisville etc., all of which are currently undefeated. No room for Pitt.

Can i have some of what you are taking?

Although, however unlikely, it is an interesting question.

Although highly unlikely we would have to have beaten Clemson twice or Clemson and Fla St and if we did run the table , we would be in the playoff.

People need to quit looking at the number of losses and look at the overall picture. That is how the playoff committee looks at things. Are you one of the 4 best teams in the nation? Would Pitt be considered better than Bama, tOSU, Michigan, Washington, etc.

If Pitt lost a close game to Bama OOC, and lost another game to say Clemson, but beat them in the CCG and finished 11-2, and beat the crap out of the other teams, then I'd say yes.

But we have played fairly close games, lost to a team outside the top 25, and lost to at team that is 21 right now. Even if we beat Clemson twice or FSU, or Louisville, in the CCG, I don't think the committee would view Pitt as one of the top 4 teams. We'd be in the same boat as UNC last year.

I LOVE hypotheticals so I'm glad you asked.

In this scenario, Pitt would be an 11-2 ACC Champ on a 9 game winning streak with 2 non-home wins over Clemson.

Alabama would get a bid.
OSU/Mich would get a bid.
Lets say Washington goes 13-0, they get a bid.

The last spot would be between a 1 or 2 loss B12 champ, either 11-1 Louisville or 12-1 Houston (they have to play), the OSU/Mich loser, and a 1 or 2 loss team from the SEC.

If A&M goes 11-1 with their lone loss being to Bama, I see them getting the nod. However, if its any of the other teams, I think Pitt goes as the ACC champ unless Baylor or WVU win the B12 with 1 or fewer losses.

Do you really think they would take a 2 loss Pitt team over a 1 loss Ohio St. or Michigan? You're more likely to find Charlize Theron in your bed tonight when you get home.

The committee has never had to make that call. All 8 teams have been conference champions.

11-2 conference champ vs 11-1 team who didn't win their division would be interesting.

Spoiler Alert!

No. Pitt could easily lose the next three games. Our offense is overrated on here, still only 65th in YPG. Our defense is not very good. Hopefully the D will be improved next season.
Pitt is 25th in the nation in points per game. Who cares about yard per game? Do you win games by scoring points or amassing yards? Self loathing Yinzer Alert!!

Depends on who else wins and loses. But, if UNC also wins out, it won't matter. Pitt won't play for the ACC Championship.

But, say, in some outlandish way, Pitt finishes 10-2 and beats an unbeaten Clemson and then an 11-1 Ville or Clemson and the right teams lose, well, then, you never know?

That said, I think Pitt goes 8-4 this season.

That's why I want every P5 champ to automatically qualify, a year will come, Someday, Pitt will go 12-1 or 13-0, win the ACC CG even, and a 2 loss tOSU or 'Bama will get in ahead of them based on NAME and being "perceived as best".

Its kinda shocking that this question got this much of a response. Here I go adding to it...with another question:

If the Browns win out for the regular season, do you think they will win the Super Bowl?

They would have a chance, at 10-6 they might even win the division and get a home playoff game.

Ok. 25th in points on offense... great... but using points as a barometer, our defense then drops to 91st... not so great. Either way you look at it, we are somewhere in the neighborhood of average. Wins against FBS teams with a combined record of 12-13. Losses against FBS teams with a combined record of 9-4. Our next three games are against teams with a combined record of 15-4. We are likely to lose those, MAYBE win one of them. We are likely to beat Cuse and Duke, so Pitt is looking at 7-5 or 8-4 as very likely possibilities.

When the playoff goes to 8 teams, this will happen. 5 conference champs, plus 3 wild cards. There will be certain criteria that will allow ND, or a G5 team to qualify, probably something like being in the top 8 of their rankings, or something similar.

I say yes as ACC champ
Win out? That would mean a 11-2 record with at least 1 win over Clemson. Best case scenario for us would be FSU beats Clemson next week. Then we beat them to have them finish 10-2 and then beat a 11-1 Louisville team in ACC CG. That is our best possible resume.

Assuming an undefeated SEC Champ is #1/2 and an undefeated OSU/UM finish #2/1, you have two spots left. Undefeated Washington would definitely be next in line and the last spot we would face the possibility of an undefeated B12 champ and a 1 loss Alabama or Texas A&M and 1 loss UM or OSU. 11-1 Nebraska and/or 11-1 Houston would probably be our next biggest competitors for a spot.

I think there is a slim chance we would get in, but Alabama or TAMU and OSU or UM with only a loss to the other would have a pretty darn good argument as well and almost assuredly get the last spot.

FWIW, whomever is doing the "eliminator" each week for ESPN says we still have a chance. I believe he is down to 26 or 28 teams.

In any event, the correct answer to the question is that it depends on what else happens. Because us just winning out won't be enough. We would need help. But with the right help it would be possible.

Lmao, Not a chance. There is no scenario that will ever get you guys to a playoff spot. With 2 losses and more on the way
Not sure why you're wasting time on the PITT board.
As a WV community college student to graduate you need to show proficiency using flash cards for math and be able to get thru the See Spot Run book with no mistakes.
I know its a challenge but if you get back to work you have a chance!
Just trying to help!

Pitt would have a hard time getting into a playoff if they were 13-0. They would probably take Michigan, OSU, SEC, Pac12

Still think my comments are self loathing, or was I just being realistic?
