We would have been ranked #12. Head to head win over #13 PSU. Only 2 losses came to Top 20 teams, both on road, both on final possession. I know rankings are meaningless and we would be nowhere near the 12th best team in the country (neither is Penn State) but we'd have the 12th best resume and that number next to our name would look good.

I personally believe we are lucky more teams on our schedule didn't attack Pitt's defense the way Va Tech did. Our corners can't defend anyone without holding and grabbing, I wonder if Miami will use the same strategy on Saturday?

Pretty much everyone since OSU has attacked us that way.

Pitt wasn't even ranked last week. No way they're going to go from unranked to #12 by beating Va Tech (what? ranked in the 20s?) at home.

No chance we would be ranked #12. Literally 0.

Yeah except we have the worst secondary in college football and our coach refuses to think so.
Miami will put up 40 on us, as will Clemson and Syracuse and we finish the season 6-6 and will play a MAC team in a bowl game and we'll blow a huge lead. Never ending story.

This just shows you how much of a joke rankings are. We lose to OK.ST. (#18), VT (#19) and NC (#21) but beat Psu and they are ranked #12. C'mon man. really ?

And realistically we should have blown them out. And no it wasn't the DB's fault as everyone wants to claim. We didn't do our part in a shoot out, and was conservative in the second half.
Weather you admit it or not everyone we lost to is better and would beat the brakes off of PSU. Don't forget besides losing to us they struggled in wins versus Temple and Minnesota .

They are making their name off of 1 win, and are not the 12th best team in the country. Look at the teams behind hem (including the 3 I named) and tell me thats true and not BS.and their remaining schedule is weak two teams have losing records, one is 500 and one with a winning record (no bette than ours). duke is the only team less than 500 on our schedule. They will lose to Iowa and fall back to normal.

When will you people realize that CFP "rankings" are not done in the ridiculously stupid traditional manner of "OK, team A won, lets move them up by 3-4 slots."

They actually take the time and rank the teams based on resumes and bodies of work. Its why PSU went from #24 in the coach's poll to #12 in the CFP after beating Purdue. PSU has a very good resume.

And Pitt, at 6-2 with a win over VT would have had a better resume than PSU. PSU would have had a home win over #6. Pitt would have had a home win over #13. Not much difference between 6 and 13. Head to head is the tiebreaker.

The committee uses head to head.
