Where would we finish?

Just curious what anyone thought. I realize not all teams have 5 freshmen, so for them maybe we count sophomores. I am not sure the answer to this hypothetical question but figured someone may want to tackle it.

I have heard people describe this Pitt team as a JV team playing against the varsity. And yea, that's pretty accurate. But how would we do against other "JV" teams. We are trying to guage this team against varsity teams and we should do that with caution.

My sense is, Pitt would be near the top of an ACC Freshman league and I'm not just saying that because our guys are playing while others are sitting behind better players. Besides UNC and Duke, I think our freshmen are right there with the others.

5 youngest under classmen from everyone else vs our 5 starters? I'd say we would be in the bottom 1/3 of the league. Possibly last. We wouldn't stand a chance vs. half the league.

I'd have to go team by team, but I would think maybe next to last, one above that at best.

It's just so hard to compare, if the players on other teams who were Fr and So got so much run and minutes, I can't imagine they'd be doing any worse.

So is the general consensus that these freshmen really aren't very good even by freshan standards and dont have much potential to get us back to the NCAAT in their later years?

I don't know enough about the other teams to comment on your initial post.

But that is not my consensus what you just stated. I see promise in Carr, Parker, Stephenson, and Davis have shown me enough to believe they can be good players for this program. They need help though. They need to add more good players to help them. Golden seems to be a good player but 18 should have had more. 2019 needs to be a home run recruiting class.

In a league with top 50 and one-and-done rookies, this year's freshmen aren't expected to be world beaters. They are to gain experience and develop into very good players who will combine with future classes to form a good team. Wouldn't it have been nice to have this type of freshman develping in the program 2-3 years ago? Kinda' like what Pitt had done most of this entire century.

Yea. I admit that I am so used to Jamie's abysmal recruiting that when I see freshmen who don't totally suck, maybe its making them seem better than what they are. Honestly, I expected the worst and expected this class of not that highly rated of players to be like the Kithcarts and Manigaults but they seem much more like the Dixon I freshmen to me. I guess we'll find out eventually but I think there's a lot of people who think these are bad players, even by freshman standards.

There are Freshman, such as the 4 Freshman from Duke who likely will be picked in the NBA draft and there are Pitt's freshman who are essentially a JV team.

The ACC has five players on its all-acc freshman team. Last years freshman were:

Dennis Smith, NC State, 51
Jonathan Isaac, Florida State, 51
Jayson Tatum, Duke, 50
Josh Okogie, Georgia Tech, 49
Ky Bowman, Boston College, 32

Anyone on this pitt team better than those guys?

Smith is a lotto pick. Isaac was a lotto pick.Tatum was a lotto pick. Okogie scored 16.1 points a game. Ky bowman put up 14 points and shot 45% from three.

On just their pure "talent" levels, probably not. But, with development, coaching, scheme...maybe.

All we know for sure is that duke would still be pounding us by 30 points.

Yes. They are playing because there is no one else to play. There are 4 guys who look like they could be decent bench guys or borderline starters on decent ACC teams in 1-2 years. We need a lot more than that.

The most telling fact is none of our guys were recruited by any ACC teams.
The feeling on this board that these guys will be competitive by say year three,
is IMO almost laughable. They will be competitive in a league like the MAC. The ACC teams will be bringing in ACC talent who as freshmen and mixed with their upper class team mates, will still be superior to us.
What we realistically should be hoping to see is, our present freshmen relegated to the
bench because the new recruits will be so much better.
