Hypothetically, if you could be promised a Pitt win over Penn State for the price of the guarantee that Pitt will not win the Coastal Division, would you take that over:

Pitt winning the Coastal Division but with the guarantee that Pitt loses to Penn State.

Of course, one doesn't have anything to do with the other but from an importance to fans standpoint, I wonder where the PSU game ranks on comparison with our ACC goals.

Personally, beating Penn State outweighs everything except making the Final Four.

Really depends on the records. Is a 8-4 coastal better than 7-5 record with a psu win? How about being able to recruit better with either ?

SMF......yeah, a win over PSU with an 8-4 record, I would take that. This year. THIS YEAR the PSU game is really important, a referendum on the program and the coaches. Obviously you don't want to go 4-8 with a win over PSU, but 8-4, and say 2nd in the Coastal like this year would be an excellent season and something really to build on.

I would take a guaranteed win over syracuse instead if a guaranteed win over PSU. They're just another unimportant non-conference game in my opinion. Winning the division and conference is all that matters.

Agreed. Stakes need to be raised more.
I think most of us would prefer beating psu, but finishing 2nd in the coastal with a 10-2 record with losses to Clemson and Miami, in contrast to a loss to pay but winning a middling division through tiebreaker with a 5-3 division record.

Better question is psu win, or a loss to psu but a conference championship at 12-1 with playoff discussion.

Championship.

Yes but in my scenario, final records are not part of the deal. So if you choose a Coastal Championship, we could technically be a 6-6 champ like GT a few years ago.......or 11-1 with just the PSU loss.

On the contrary, if you choose the PSU W, we could be 1-11 with the PSU W or 11-1 but finish 2nd in Coastal behind an 8-0 champ.

This is question that comes up like the full moon every cycle, the answer is both if you put that in the Poll?

As I see it, if Pitt beats PSU it can be a very good sign of being a contender for the Coastal, if not, it will struggle to win 6 to 7 games all season long.

Pitt and Penn State have young teams with talent improving but must mesh into better teams to beat the better Experience Teams, Coaches and Talent at Clemson, Michigan, UNC, OSU, Miami, Iowa, VT, MSU, and each other. While OCC's OKSU, Temple, and other ACC-B10 Programs in each conference won't be easy either.

WVU has a more experience Team but they have to beat OU, Texas, OKSU, Baylor, TCU and KSU too

Coastal without a doubt.

PSU is like the #8/#9 game in terms of meaning this year, with the majority being recruiting implications. Otherwise, beating a 7-5/8-4 regional team isnt really that great of a thing.

For long term success the division title is the clear choice. But you guys have put an awful lot of eggs in that blue/white basket. A loss there would set you back quite a bit
No it wouldn't. Psu losses, franklins seat gets hot, real hot. Game means a lot more for psu than Pitt, we have a shot at coastal, psu is fighting for 3rd, best case, in their division. Osu, mich, msu are sure blowouts, add Pitt temple and Iowa and 6 losses is very possible. How will psu fans feel about Franklin with 6 losses?

Is it really a good thing for Pitt if Franklin gets axed? He is a proven mediocre coach. PSU has an infinite supply of money and can hire just about anybody they want if they wanted to. If Franklin gets canned, they will get someone much better. I hope Franklin is there awhile. Just wishes he didnt recruit so darn good.

Absolutely I want him there for as long as possible. His qb is calling him out publicly, love him

I don't see where beating a mediocre UPS team -- even though it would be good for the program - is even in the same conversation with Pitt winning the Coastal, which would be GREAT for the program.

Go Pitt.

Demographics I think.... anyone over say 45 ...psu in a landslide ...Under 45 the silly coastal thing...kids and soccer fans incapable of the proper amount of hate

If we were 12-1 with a loss to PSU I'd punch someone in the face. I just think of their delusional fans more than the football team.

Go Pitt.
It depends.

To win the division and play a competitive title ala North Carolina last year, you're probably right.
To do it the way Duke did a few years ago, and get killed in the title game, not so sure.

I also think, at least for now, putting psu, their jackass head coach, and the jackals in the media in their place is just as beneficial. Certainly it's more satisfying.

There is definitely a lot riding on the PSU game.

I like Nards a LOT, but he has tweaked the mush head enough and taken enough jabs to make this a STFU game either way, past what would be the normal importance of the game.

That said ... Championships are championships.

Losing to PSU but winning the coastal > beating PSU and not winning the coastal.

Yea but I view the Penn State game as a championship. I know it isnt but the euphoric feeling I will have walking out of that stadium can only be matched by WINNING the ACCCG to clinch a spot in the Final 4. I think I'd rather beat PSU then win the ACCCG and go to the Orange Bowl at like 10-3.

I guess for me, its that "feeling." I just think that feeling which will last the entire day and into the next week will be indescribable. Better than beating Syracuse to clinch the Coastal. Better than winning the ACCCG and going to the Orange Bowl. But I admit that most dont share the level of, um, dislike I have for Penn State.

emotionally speaking, i'll be happiest with a win against Sandusky nation, no doubt. once I separate from it though, a coastal crown will be better.. But I am with you smf, the feeling of beating tickle monsters will be incredible..
