Press release from Pitt:

Sophomore Peace Ilegomah will transfer from the University of Pittsburgh. The 6-9 center had appeared in seven games and was averaging 0.9 points and 1.0 rebounds per game for the Panthers.

“We support Peace’s decision to continue his academic and athletic career at another institution,” said head coach Jeff Capel. “We are thankful for his contributions to the Pitt program and wish him well.”

Pitt returns to action Saturday, Dec. 15 against Maryland Eastern Shore (2 pm – RSN). The Panthers are 7-3 on the season, including a 5-1 mark at the Petersen Events Center.

Good luck to him. It’s best for him to go to a lesser conf where he will have a better chance at PT.

I would be shocked if there weren’t more before next season.

Peace Stephenson George Sidy a d frame and possibly brown

There could be as many as 6 ships available.

would rather he stayed the full year. if one of our bigs gets hurts, we have no size depth whatsoever.

I understand. However, IMHO, we will just go smaller part of the time if either Kene or Terrel were to be lost for the season. I don't believe Ilgomah would be value added even as insurance if such an eventuality occurred.

Anyone wanting to play whose not seeing meaningful minutes by his sophmore yr needs to transfer unless he's buried behind seniors .
Wish him well.
Ps ..He always gave 110%

I’d even consider Davis a toss-up. I think he’s a good enough defender to eventually in his career earn a bigger role off the bench. At the same time though, Capel may end up bringing in too many guys that are better than him. Gotta think he at least sits down and thinks about his future this off-season.

I see Davis as getting significant minutes as a sixth man next year. As a senior, he would be the much improved Panther as we used to see, and becoming a starter again.

good point. The Sidy's of the world may not opt for Pitt next year given the stability of the returning backcourt. HCJC may not go that route given the returners. Davis may be counted on.

Peace was a major major reach. He had the worst recruiting video I have ever seen. It showed him making basic layups, getting basic rebounds, missing shots (but drawing the foul), and making free throws. Bethune-Cookman was one of his finalists so we kinda knew what we were getting but Stallings was desperate and Peace is big so he bought the lottery ticket.

So, no surprise he is transferring. He's more of a minor D1 NEC/MEAC type player. I'm just surprised he'd do so mid-year and lose 2 semesters of eligibility. He would be a junior next December when he becomes eligible, right?

George and Stevenson will almost certainly transfer. The only way I see George sticking around is if we don't use all the scholarships and he just likes the school and doesn't mind getting walk-on PT.

Davis may transfer, it wouldn't surprise me, but he seems like the type of kid who knows his role. It doesn't seem like we are bringing in any great guards in this class so he could get major minutes next year when JWF and Sidy leave.

The guy that nobody is considering transferring is Ellison. He is the Captain, which I found odd because it seemed like he tried everything to leave. But he can grad transfer so it's something he could do.

We have 4 scholarships now, could have 6-7 open and if it's that money, Capel will purposely not fill them all like Stallings did. I cant see him reaching for guys like his predecessors.

I think you'll see him bring in 2 grad transfer bigs, probably a 4 and a 5 and also try to get 2 quality 2019 big guys. The other 2 scholarships could go to the best available players. Maybe some regular transfers.

My guess is next year's lineup will be:

Johnson
McGowens
Ellison/Toney
Toney/New big
New big/Chukwuka/Brown

Did anyone watch him in the Niagra game? He got in early and had two fouls in the blink of any eye. Can't be insurance if you can't stay on the floor.

Bigs take a while to develop other than perhaps a handful of highly rated guys. So I can see him take a big or two that may not be able to contribute until their soph or Junior season. I think he needs guys to back up X and Trey as well as a deadly three point shooter who will be instant offense. So thats three guards right their. They need another wing to back up Toney. So in all I think he takes about 6 kids in this class ideally. Where he gets them from (Transfers, JUCO, HS remains to be seen).

I can see him taking a Gary McGhee/Terrell Brown type (150-200ish) but I cant see him reaching much beyond that.

I agree with most of this. We also need at least 1 newcomer that can knock down the 3.

Don't worry about who JC brings in , the man knows how to evaluate talent .
Ps .. X was #222 how about a roster full of X type players !

Maybe Parker Stuart type player !

That would be fantastic. Stewart would fit so well on this team. He would get open shots his whole career with how much Johnson and McGowens create and put pressure on the defense. Would love them to bring in a designated shooter, though Stewart was more than that. Hope he does well with Daddy in the OVC.
