I'm expecting Lafayette Pitts to play a different role in coverage and that

is to crowd the line and be a spy for the qb for half of the field. We might just see what TCU does on defense a lot of times and have 5 dbs on the field (sometimes 7) that can tackle. Have some bulk up front but send some speed for pressure.

Notre Dame really is good on offense but I am hopeful that taking Pitts out last week was an a ha moment that can still use Pitts in a different way on defense.

This is not the blueprint for the future but a band aid to make it through the year.

Well, we know he won't be turning his head to play the ball in coverage...so, it would be a better strategy.
I actually think he is excellent the first 5-10 steps in close situations to the line. He is disruptive. After that, things go wrong.

He is very, very fast and can keep up with just about any receiver. Not turning around is really, really killing him though. He's right there every time but makes no attempt to make a play on the ball and just allows the receiver to catch the ball and then looks to tackle him. I can assure you that strategy will never, ever work. I'm all for trying him out in a different role.

We must have two Lafayette Pitts on the team because one of them is evidently "very, very fast" and also "disruptive". I'd play that guy. The other guy is neither fast nor disruptive and gets burned deep on a regular basis.

Pitts gets beat by a WR on almost every play. I don't see the speed.
That's because it isn't there. These guys that keep saying he just needs to "turn his head" are missing the fact that he's running for his life to keep up with his man on a lot of those plays. I'll say this again, you have to have good coverage before you worry about making a play on the ball. Literally anyone who has ever played the game at the H.S. level or beyond has heard that come out of a coach's mouth every day in practice. If your man has a step or two you can;t worry about the ball in the air. I think a lot of people aren't seeing that in that UNC game Pitts had a lot of trouble staying with his man on the outside. What sometimes looks like decent coverage on TV isn't even close if you see it from the field.
