...I rarely get worked up over sports; they are entertaining to watch, I care about 'my' teams, but at the end of the day, it's just a game that I'm watching. Watching a win is more fun than watching a loss, but a loss doesn't ruin my day. Though I identify as a strong fan of my teams - Pitt especially - it is not essential to who I am as a person, and I don't read too much into rivalry or fandom.

Saturday, September 10th at Noon could not be a bigger outlier to all of that. Never, in my entire life, have I so badly wanted to see my team win; even more than when the Steelers or Pens have played for championships. I loathe the cult of personality Penn State football has created, and the perverse consequences it has had. I hate the moral grandstanding of their fanbase. I detest their complete lack of self-awareness. We could lose every game for the rest of the season, but as long as we destroy PSU, I would be happy.

Just remember, Joe Paterno delayed reporting child abuse because he 'didn't want to ruin anyone's weekend'. That's the type of sick **** that they want to memorialize with statues and ceremonies.

Very well put Burnie.. and don't forget that JVP didn't just fail to report the situation over that weekend. He did NOTHING for 30-odd years in light of the insurance company's released testimonials from the child victims... it went back to the mid-70s.

And he most certainly chose not to report what was widely known among his program because he didn't want his holier-than-thou program to be tarnished in any way. Hypocrite.

Like you, I surely do NOT want to lose to that CULT

That said, PSU's program is a national object of derision. Read the short column by an Esquire.com writer last week. He notes he's a PSU alum and whenever he's asked where he went to school and cites Penn State, the retort is invariably "Oh... followed by an awkward silence".

THAT is the legacy of Paterno. THAT is the legacy of the weird cult following that he willfully created. Then, I suggest you read the editorial by the Daily Collegian staff. They essentially drew a line in the sand and told the administration that they, the current student, have had it with Paterno worship - that he's dead and no longer relevant to any of them in any way other than being an embarrassment associated with the worst scandal in sports history.

THAT is the legacy of Paterno and the weird cult that still idolizes. It makes one wonder if those JoeBots all had father image problems??

But again, the lasting legacy of all that looking-down-their-noses, holier-than-you, "WE ARE" bullsh*t is that it was proven to be total crap... total phony hypocrisy.

For someone who saw thru that baloney 35 years ago, it has been a resounding relief. I am 100% sorry and sickened by the suffering of so many innocent boys and their families. But if there was any good that can said to have come out of that horror, at least the hypocrisy and sham of JVP and the Cult he creates has been fully, finally, horribly and irretrievable exposed. Nationally and universally.
