Just heard that Ford will switch to CB and Coleman to Safety. Sounds good. Much is undetermined in March. IMO what sounded horrible is that Briggs was commented as being first string with Hamlin as safety. Nothing personal, but he was rather horrible last season. Every WR made a catch when it was thrown in his direction, he is very slow, two yards behind the WR or TE and avoided contact. I hope Coleman who is much more athletic will fill in ASAP. Based on last year performance he may be a great guy in the locker room or weight room but on the field was a huge liability last year. I am commenting to article from Pittsburgh News Now which is just one article. However, it gave me palpitations.Coleman is due to break out.

Relax. This is only an initial starting point. Briggs is a probable captain and a
strong "off the field presence," as well as a leader. I seriously doubt that he'd
be a starter with all the young DB's ready to move up. This is a good way to
reward him for what he's done in the past. He's often referred to as one of our
more "mature" players. IMO he will be passed by at least one player at his
position.

Ford to CB is flat out sexy. Him and Jackson are basically two NFL Caliber CBs, with 2+ years. Duzzi did a great job upgrading our CBs after only 2 years ago, being epically bad. We can go 4 and maybe even 5 deep, depending on Motley.

Safety is interesting. We all love Hamlin, who knows, maybe he's all heathy after 3 years. I like Campbell, briggs is experienced if not slow. Coleman is an athlete, we've had worse backup safeties than garner and stocker.

we got a nice defense this fall.

The biggest issue with Ford at CB, is that at Central Catholic he played safety. At Seton-LaSalle he played safety. At Steel Valley, he played safety.

I just wonder why put a RS freshman who has played safety all his life, at cornerback in the pass-happy ACC. You have to admit, it seems counter-intuitive.

Eh, I'm not worried about him mentally being able to play the position. Lots of players play positions in college they didn't in high school. High school is about taking your best athletes and putting them where they can make the greatest impact. That's frequently at "roaming" positions.
The issue does he have the talent to play it? Or to dominate at it? Even most of the BEST safeties, don't have the hips to be game changing corners. Are we taking what could be a game changing safety, and putting him in a position where he can simply be "good"? Usually it works the other way, from corner to beefed up safety because of hips.

Because it’s a limited read?

College ain’t hs.

These kids are being taught to be interchangeable at safety/cornerback. Not a big deal.

Paris Ford has been committed to Pitt for a long time. Wearing #12 he is already my favorite player since Rod Rutherford and Darelle Revis.
