Interesting article on these coaching changes

"When you find yourself stuck with a coach who is good but not good enough, the problem often isn’t him.
It’s infrastructure. It’s history. It’s program support. It’s something other than the head coach. But the head coach is the easiest thing to change, so schools follow the same fruitless road over and over and over again."

This should be required reading for every shortsighted stooge on this message board that wants to fire coaches at the drop of a hat...

On top of that, the whole "no one cares about sports" mantra as well. It is EXTREMELY difficult to get the right guy. And the guy that everyone wants most likely doesn't exist.

The national media is laughing at most of the fanbases hiring a coach now. To most of them, everyone's admins are "idiots".

Certainly explains why most in the national media were shaking their heads when Pitt ran off Wlat and then Wannstedt six years later.

Amen... I've been saying for YEARS that even schools with bigger budgets and bigger alumni and more prestige can't get it right.

Even perenial powers like Michigan, Ohio State, ND, USC, Texas, have had long periods of mediocrity when a great coach leaves. It's not that easy.

But the buffoons who should read this article won't. Even if they do, it won't get through their fat heads.

For schools like Pitt, the model they should be following are schools like; Iowa, Wisconsin, MSU, and VT. They don't win big every year, but each of those schools have a long coaching tenure with lots of patiences and they've been rewarded. There have been some 7-5 years along with the occasional 5 win seasons. But because of stability, they also have a lot of 9 and 10 win seasons as well.

So don't let posters, media and bloggers get away with stupidity. Point it out to them and beat the drum as they do.
