In its past 33 seasons, dating back to 1983 when Foge Fazio’s team finished 17th in the AP poll, Pitt has finished the season ranked in the AP poll just 4 times.

1989: 17 Mike Gottfried
2002: 19 Walt Harris
2004: 25 Harris
2009: 15 Wannstedt.

And people like pittgirl actually have the nerve to ask some of us posters why we are so damn depressed, annoyed and frustrated with Pitt sports. When I saw this I was in disbelief. Disgraceful is a better term, 4 times in 33 years, wow.

Honest question, where did you expect us to be at this point in Narduzzi's tenure? I understand the Pitt fan complex, I've got it too. But Narduzzi has had a better start to his time here than Harris, Wanny, and Chryst.

Point taken, but in fairness, you tend to start losing it the moment we miss our first shot or first time we don't get a first down. (Please take no offense ... I'm joking)

She makes shills look realistic! I am glad we have all types here, everyone still here should be rewarded including her, me , etc , and that we even have fans , after all the Nad kicking Pitt has done to us. DISGRACE is a good word, Pitt brass has always been Pitts worst enemy, not the fans.

If you want to live in the past, so be it. I tend to live in the present and look forward to the future. There is not enough time to mull over the past for me. I appreciate the great teams of the past, am aware of the dry spell after that, but right now, we are winning some, and losing close games to good teams. You may not think so, but glass half full guys think better times are ahead. As I stated before, if you can't appreciate being a Pitt fan, there are many other programs to support. Your constant negativism connotes dissatisfaction, so consider your options, be a Pitt fan, take the bad with the good, and realize it is what it is, or be dissatisfied and miserable.

Honest question , what do you see so bright about the future ? I'm not saying it isn't , I just don't know , but the past has caused a lot of frustration to be honest. I have to live in the middle of hoopie nation , and it's embarrassing when these inbreds have a better program than we do , they shouldn't!

I'm just a loyal Pitt fan. I'm an alumnus, and two daughters are alumna. I just don't let anything get to me long term. I get frustrated and angry like everyone else. But, there is a realism of what Pitt is. I can accept that or let it get to me. My college memories are too great and my optimism too strong to let losses or frustrations overwhelm me. We all have an outlook, some positive, some negative. Mine is positive, and I look at the team and its future that way. You may be the opposite. But what does it get you, other than dissatisfaction? Are you going to change the future? Pitt is what it is. I will continue to support them, enjoy the games, and get satisfaction out of the pride my family has for the university. I do truly think that the future is bright, but that's me. I have confidence in Narduzzi and the young guys that will be moving up in the program. So, in effect, I will use Pitt to be happier in my life, and not use it to be discouraged. If that isn't kosher to you or others, so be it.

Sorry if you get depressed after a loss, it says alot more about you and td-istheman more than anything else

I know your point is to make everyone else miserable like u. But the first year and a half have shown narduzzi has pitt heading in the right direction. Probably for the first time in those 30 years we also have an ad and a chancellor invested in winning football. Not sure if u are a ped st fan or just miserable.

I think people look at 1976-83 and see that as the norm for Pitt football. That is not the case. It's the exception.

Pitt's records from
1940-1975. 145 wins 198 losses 11 ties
1976-1983. 79 wins. 15 losses. 1 tie
1984-current. 203 wins. 190 losses. 5 ties

Outside of the 6 year stretch from 76-83, we are below .500 team. We can hope for another peak for a few years but this is who we are

Doesn't phase me at all. When I became a Pitt fan as a 5 year old kid, it was 1990. They averaged like 3 or 4 wins a year for about a decade. Still loved going to the games. Likely another 8-4 season for Narduzzi and the best record over the first two seasons of any Pitt coach in my lifetime. I'm okay with it. Looking forward to the games at The U and Clemson. Can't wait.

yeah there are ped st fans with an agenda trying to bring down pitt fans on here. They r butt hurt from losing to us and the fact they havent been just getting whatever recruit they want over us since narduzzi.

The really uncanny thing there have been hardly any 'spikes' of eye opening seasons during that time. Maybe zero. When nearly every other similar program has had at least one.
Another factor with the rankings is the nearly annual loss to a clearly (perceived or otherwise) inferior opponent.
Actually, only one year with less than 4 losses since 1990.

Why did you choose the past 33 years? In the past 15 they have ended the season ranked three times. Not that that's good, but it doesn't fit your narrative quite as well.

Headed in the right direction??

U sure about that? from this date last year and removing cupcakes like Villanova and marshall.......

Pitt is 5-7

This ...with at least 5 NFL prospects on offense......

I think a better discussion may be.....can anyone come in and turnaround this dumpster fire??

All these same eternal optimists say with every new coach that we're headed in the right direction. They've probably been saying that for 30 years now. Agree with you 100% Nothing I have seen since the 2nd half of last season has shown me that we are headed in any kind of right direction. If anything we are moving in the wrong direction because our coach won't even try to make any needed adjustments to an awful secondary.

I'm not an eternal optimist. But, I am a fan of Pitt football and hoops. It's not painful for me. It's enjoyable. Sorry you guys get so much misery from it. Doesn't happen to me.

We are a mediocre to worse football program. This is not a referendum on anyone's fanship. But I laugh when I see alot of posters on here act like Pitt football has this cache cause it has won a National Championship. And not even talking about the overall program with interest and attendance, but just the on field product, we are mediocre. Yeah, talk to me about National Titles. Syracuse has them to. Talk to me about NFL Hall of Famers, Syracuse has them too. No Pitt fan is confusing Syracuse with Ohio State. We are Syracuse.

Only 6 teams in the P5 conferences have not had a season where they have won less than 3 games in the last 35 years. SIX! Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Indiana, Iowa State, NC State and.....Pitt. Nice company, eh? Those schools evoke football tradition of excellence.

Just out of pure luck, the stars aligning you would think we could have had a 2 loss season or better, but no. That is horrible.

Again, I am not saying you should be a fan or cry or take a bridge, but we should always realize where we truly are on the college football foodchain.

I think Pitt's 2002 team was the best in recent memory, better than 2009. Harris had them ranked at the end of the season two of his last three seasons

Thats funny. You guys are clowns. Im Not an eternal optimist by any means here. If u dont think narduzzi has pitt headed in the right dorection (8 wins last year, best recruiting last year in a while, beat ped st, only close losses to ranked teams this year, a chance for another very good recruiting class) u are either a ped u troll or just miserable. He isnt perfect and maybe if he adjusts his d a little this year we r undefeated. But the guy has done a good job so far.

One thing I look at is what WVU has done this year, though they lost today and what Penn State did last week. Since 1982 Pitt has gone 5-0 or better once. Since then Pitt has beaten a number 2 or better once, WVU in 2007. You look at those school's highlights and they have pretty impressive accomplishments. PSU has been undefeated a couple of times and has had quite a few 11 win seasons and have beaten a lot of ranked teams in that time frame. WVU has been in the national title game, won BCS bowls one of which they beat Clemson 70-30, and had three consecutive 11 win seasons. Pitt has had more lowlights than highlights.

I'm not putting down Narduzzi, I'm pretty excited about what he has done especially after seeing WVU lose pretty big to Oklahoma State. I was just defending people's attitude toward Pitt and the lack of people in the stands.

I told my friend Thursday night on my way to the game it seems like every time we go to these weeknight games, we come home wishing we never went. I was trying to remember a Thursday or Friday night game Pitt has won recently. I heard on The Fan that Pitt is 4-13 in these weeknight games. That is probably why the seats are empty. Pitt needs to start winning these games, beating a ranked team, beating an OSU.

We always have the PSU game. Maybe the game at Penn State will be that game Pitt finally gets that win.

Well, if programs like Baylor, TCU, Utah, Louisville, Washington, Oregon, Ole Miss, Stanford, MSU, can come from the bottom of the barrel. To the top of college football. So can Pitt.

Its all about hiring the right coach and staff. And giving them everything they need to succeed.

If Pitt's higher ups are committed to winning championships and if we have the right coach and staff. Pitt can get there.

Can we just win the Coastal once ?

Let me get this straight.

You're defending Wanny's tenure on another thread--guy had 8 years to win a watered down Big East title and couldn't do it--but complaining we haven't won the Coastal yet in Narduzzi's second year?

We've had some good teams, but truth is, "Pitting" is not a fantasy, it's very real, this year count UNC and VT for sure! And a prime time night game, where we start horridly and can't seem to finish is typical. Us winning the big game, in the spotlight, like we did vs. VT in 2003, is rare to none, you'd think it could happen more often. The PSU win was pretty good, but we where about a minute away from another potential Pitting, thankfully that one went our way, but we are more often on the wrong end of games like that, it's baffling.
