Interesting info from Parrish via Doke

Honestly guys.

This just simply isn't true.

People may doubt they can Win here long term or recruit or whatever.

But no one is worried about the fan base.

If we pay someone 3 million we will get a good coach.

I always got the impression that Dixon was very hands-on... he probably did a lot because he wanted to be in control of everything (not saying that's a bad thing). I also get the impression that Barnes will hire enough staff to make the bball program successful... it doesn't sound like he is going to skimp on the program or staffing

"Dixon did a lot..."

This is an oversimplification that should earn Parish a kick in the teeth.

The fan base didn't sour on Dixon because he won BE season championships and won 25+ games a year. The fan base soured on Dixon for the wretched tournament record... which, given his sustained regular season success, was anomalous in college basketball.

Sorry, if Pitt is a place you'd like to come to crap the bed in prime time... well we've had enough of that.

Yes, Jamie did a lot. In the tournament he did not.

0 +1 -1 = 0

As far as I'm concerned, if you're only winning in the regular season and not winning in the post season... you're only doing half your job.

Yes.. HALF.

Ask Syracuse fans how they feel about their season? Think they give two sh*ts how many times Pitt beat them this year?

-Ok, Im breaking my own rules, but I have to do it. This is what a Champion looks like. From worst to first, and still not good enough. Read that again. From worst to first, and still not good enough. A Conference Champion, still not good enough. Read this article.

"For me, it would have been a very successful season for us if we won more (CAA) games"

Why would he retract his statements? He was just summarizing what other coaches have told him. It's not his opinion

-Because he thinks Pitt is some type of 4th rate job in the country and thinks Pitt is a nobody. And in that article he made Enfield look like the 2nd coming of Jesus. He doesn't think Pitt can win big. He obviously thinks Enfield can win big.

Of the names mentioned as candidates, and I realize we have no idea if the list is accurate, the only two names that would not be a disappointment to me are Enfield and maybe Drew. And again, if the list is correct, Parrish is probably correct.

Contrary to Dixon, some coaches actually welcome expectations and an AD that pays attention to basketball.

I listened to a separate podcast Parrish did, and he mentioned that he does his lists based solely on calling people.

Doesn't do the guessing and dot connecting that other people do, he's purely building his lists based on what coaches and agents he knows tell him.

Not buying this. All these coaches know the entire admin changed and there has been a emphasis to make sports better. The culture has changed.....for the better.

-We can all thank Smiley for loading the Pitt bank with Cash with his lifetime Dixon deal that got bought out by TCU.

This.

if making a Final Four is unrealistic then maybe these guys shouldn't be in the coaching business. What is realistic? What kind of goals do these "coaches" set for themselves?

Jamie didn't leave the Pitt program in a better place than he found it. The national profile of the team is lower now than it was when he inherited it.

He was a good coach but some people just horribly overrate what he accomplished here. He was a good coach, not great.

Exactly. What up and coming upwardly mobile coach woulf shy away from a job because of that? None.

Whether they think hey can win here due to the geographical recruiting and conference challenges is another issue.

Narduzzi looked at Pitt as a good situation-good (not great but good) recruiting turf, weak, winnable division of a P5 league that's really traditionally been a 2 program league. He knows it won't take a whole lot to get to the point where he's playing in the ACC championship game.

A basketball coach looking at Pitt might see the exact opposite situation. However, a good coach with good recruiting connections can win anywhere.

News flash-if your fans don't have expectations, it's because your program really, really sucks, which means you have totally failed as a coach, AD, etc. . So enough nonsense about the "unreasonable" expectations of Pitt fans. Gimme a break. Being competitive in your league and in the NCAA tournament isn't too much to ask for at any program. If it is, why even have one? We had it at Pitt before, we can have it again. All it takes is the right guy.

Parish is wrong but let's pretend he isn't...A coach who perceives the expectations as unreasonable is not any kind of coach I'd want. Empty suit lacking inspired confidence. Chancellor Gallagher said excellence is the expectation in everything. Everything. That includes the court, Gary.

I genuinely appreciate what JD gave to this program and he deserves much respect and appreciation for his body of work here, but the curve surely bent down over the last 5 years. But for one game in one of those 5 years he had double digit losses EVERY year. There was no evidence of that changing anytime soon. Coupled with the postseason resume, the recruiting losses, the inability to hold onto rising verbals (Heron, Diallo, et al), this coaching search is justified and timely. This program has much to sell and lofty expectations of excellence are there for the making.

Someone needs to tell GP to STFU.

My expectations are for my panthers to score more than 43 points in the tournament.

Why isn't Parrish giving Dixon crap for worrying about his TCU gig and not coaching Pitts final tournament game. The national media seems to be missing that. Pitt Scores 50 points against Wisconsin and they could very well be in the Elite 8 right now.

Dixon may have done a lot, but he didn't do enough where is really counted. And that is on the court in late march. How dare we think otherwise. Geez

So Parrish just described every top Power 5 school in the nation. Schools and fans expect results and aren't happy when they don't deliver. Heck, Steelers fans constantly want Tomlin fired, Pens fans wanted to dump Bylsma after winning a Cup. It's a winner's mentality. If a coach doesn't think he can meet those expectations, I don't want him coaching my team.
