Here are Pitt player stats on a "per-40 minutes played" basis:

Name..... Pts ... Rbds Asts TOs
Young.... 22.3 ... 9.6 3.6 3.5
Artis.... 20.9 ... 6.8 4.3 3.4
Jeter.... 18.1 .. 10.8 1.8 1.7
C.Johnson 17.4 ... 5.8 1.7 1.4
C.Jones.. 14.1 ... 4.7 3.7 2.1
Luther... 14.1 ... 9.7 1.2 2.3
Robinson. 13.3 ... 3.9 6.9 1.6
Wilson... 13.2 ... 3.8 5.7 2.7
Smith.... 11.0 ... 7.0 2.6 1.3
Maia...... 7.2 .. 12.2 1.8 1.4
Ododa..... 7.0 ... 8.0 0.5 1.7

Some interesting notes on these numbers:

- Jeter and Luther give a pretty good "bang for the buck".
- Cam Johnson is under-utilized.
- Our impressions about Smith are accurate. He simply doesn't shoot enough, but he rebounds very well for a guard.
- Not listed... but Ododa averages 6.1 fouls per 40 minutes. That's a whole lot.
- Scoring and rebounding wise, our two PGs are functionally equivalent. But James takes care of the ball so much better and runs the offense much better.
- Young and Artis are turnover machines, as they eye-test has shown us recently.

If you look at your stats, the bottom 5 are our Guards and Centers -- where our problems have lied all year. No paint presence and no athleticism at Guard. Agree on all your points except the last one. The reason why Young and Artis have so many turnovers is because on most teams, your guards are your playmakers, but since our guards aren't athletic enough to create opportunities, it's left up to Young, Artis and Jeter. When your bigs are putting the ball on the floor as much as ours are, those turnover numbers will be elevated (and conversely, the guard's TOs will be lower because they are not dribbling into traffic like a coach wants.) My meaning is -- they are the end result of a non-ideal situation. I think you'll find those TO numbers will drop next year for our Forwards if Kithcart is as good as people are saying.

A guard who consistently scores 20+ a game will cure a lot of ills!

Not quite ... Artis is not making turnovers by putting the ball on the floor, he just makes some over aggressive passes and throws the ball away when he has no reason to do so. Young kills ball movement at times and turns it over going iso when he does not need to and getting into traffic, which is not great play making with your head down.

I would like to know which player gives up the most layups per 40 minutes. I assume it is either Young, Artis or Jeter. I am happy that we were more aggressive going to the hoop tonight instead of just settling for contested jump shots. But we have to stop giving up the layups/dunks/alley oops. Luther playing more has helped to decrease the layups against numbers. He is definitely taking up a bunch of Jeter's minutes, and the team seems to play better with Luther rather than Jeter.
