Interesting - Thorpe leaving the Nitwits

Train wreck? PSU has landed more top 150 kids than Pitt the past three years and has 2 already for 16'. Thorpe HAD to be let go. It was mutual but he screwed up. Losing his defense will hurt but PSU will be a borderline tourney team next year. Hopefully the kid gets another chance.

Ummmmm.....okay.

Which tourney are you referencing ?

Yeah I am sorry. History shows the program is a train wreck. Chambers is getting players to hop on the doomed train though.

I support the Pitt basketball program.

During the past 4 years, PSU has averaged 4 conference wins per season. Given the school's financial resources, I'd call that a train wreck.

Most of the responses in this thread were funny and probably deserved for me even checking in but you did reference a PSU player.

Zaratoughda's post literally had nothing in it that made any sense though. I have as many Pittsburgh friends almost as PSU. WtF does that even mean? This is a basketball board.

Hey, I have a few Pennsylvania State friends. Not bad guys. They were appalled at what went on up there, unlike many Pennsylvania State fans.

Who wasn't? Seems like some people here border on rooting for evil just because they hate Penn State.

What was done at Penn State, by Penn State officials in their official capacities in covering up the rape of children for decades in order to protect a sports brand was absolutely evil. That's what happens when sacrifice basic human morality at the alter of a leather ball or when masses are ensnared in a cult of personality built on artificial righteousness that continues on to this moment. People outside the insular world of State College desperately root for underlying issues to be corrected at such a high profile and important institution. The evidence of how much correction has been achieved is easily depicted by such simple things as the platforms and efforts of your alumni elected trustees and replacement hires made by your administration. Forgive me if my stomach is turned by everyone that tries to lessen the fundamental truths of the situation there.

And the people bowed and prayed to the neon god they made,

Pathetic!

I agree 1000000% with Paco and Gary, but what does any of this have to do with Thorpe leaving PSU?

If there is ANYONE that is not a fan of Penn State... it is me. But, I feel we should be accurate on all this.

And I agree with CrazyPaco on this but do not believe EVERYONE at Penn state is to blame.

Specifically, in my reading of the events that happened, AFTER this whole thing came out... there were these emails between the administration and Paterno... and the administration was leaning in the direction of 'coming out' on the whole thing but Peterno turned them around... given his rep he had the power to do this.. and with that the cover up continued.

Now, that does not at all excuse the administration for what they did but it does mean the biggest blame was on Paterno. He was the person most responsible for the cover up... and stripping him of most of his wins was most appropriate but the NCAA backing off on that was really pitiful.

Lastly... as soon as the Penn State Board of Trustees found out what had happened, they canned Paterno, despite his rep, IMMEDIATELY. Fired his butt and he was gone. So, as I see it the Penn State Board of Trustees, are not at all to blame on this... other than it going on right under their noses and them not knowing about it. Other than that, they did what they needed to do when the time came.

The other jerk in this whole miserable affair... Jim Corbet. Campaigned to have those Paterno wins reinstated... and Corbet.... got what he deserved in becoming the first PA governor to lose reelection in PA in something like 80 years... and this in a year where otherwise there was a big Republican surge.

A really ugly incident all around... and the biggest reason for this is the clique that follows Penn State football. Paterno didn't want to face them with what was going on and that is why he covered it up. In short, THEY are the one's most to blame for this whole thing. Them and Joe Pa.

You do realize that TOM Corbett began the Sandusky prosecution, and as ALL PA governors, he was a psu trustee??
He lost because the teachers unions & Dem candidate LIED about school funding, and he didn't respond to that strongly enough. This ain't Russia, you can't rewrite the history books.

I think that Corbett lost because he was an ineffective governor. Despite having both chambers of the legislature controlled by Republicans, he could not get any major initiatives passed. His approval ratings were low long before the campaign started and the school funding issue was raised.

He wouldn't just cave in to the GOP idiots. Good man, no sizzle at all, methodical. The media didn't like him because he's bland. When Rendell dropped the "stimulus" billions on the union doorstep, the lefties rejoiced....and the media is predominantly pro-union in PA. Bought & paid for. Now we're stuck with Whiskers.

I think Corbet lost because he was funneling all sorts of money into the hands of a small number of private business owners as opposed to the regular citizen and the people had no respect for him for that (and he sure as heck wasn't deserving any) and so they gave him the boot.

But, my comment had nothing to do with WHY he got the boot.... except for saying the fact that he got the boot, proved he was a jerk and part of being a jerk was him trying to reverse the PSU sanctions.

Ya know, ANYONE trying to defend PSU on this should really consider having their heads examined. An extremely hideous affair and they should instead be hanging their heads in shame.

You are as clueless about politics as you are about hoops. That claim about funneling money is a lie. And his job as governor is to aid the state's economy. Those economic sanctions didn't punish the perps one bit, but did hurt businesses. And as a TRUSTEE, he's obligated to act in the interests of that university, no matter what certain university officials did in the past....LONG before he became governor. And his office DID put together the Sandusky case....which ended in a conviction. The current AG hasn't gotten trial dates, yet for the three officials.....why not??

Yes, but whiskers is just like us, he drives a jeep!

The biggest impact on Thorpe's transfer is not in basketball. His little (age) brother is a pretty damn high end football recruit for Class of 2017 at Central.

I voted for Corbet, once. Terrible grandstanding to the lowest (and I mean absolute lowest) life forms in the state. Economic sanctions? BS. I don't certainly don't believe in economics over basic ethics, and I certainly don't think it was the governor's primary motive anyway. In any case, wasting tax payer money and civil servant time fighting the NCAA was heinous. In the end, appealing to the Pennsyltucky faction didn't come close to saving his job anyway.

And the governor is an ex officio member of their board, like all governors have been for all state-related and state universities in the Commonwealth. Likely the first time a governor has showed up at a board meeting at any school in years, and it was primarily to interject himself into the scandal spotlight and his actions were laid bare.

And the Penn State's BOT certainly doesn't get a pass. They were entirely reactive to the immense media spotlight. And anywhere that spotlight dimmed, their true colors were on display, and still are.

There you go again NTOP... with the insults. Seems like that is all you can do.

You do the same thing....

That is the standard quote for ASSUMING but you had your comment and I let it drop but now you are dragging it on and on... you are very good at that KJ... dragging things on and on.

If you want to make one more... go ahead... but then lets let the whole thing drop.

OK, you were trying to do that never assume bit, that wasn't apparent, but let me ask you, aren't all your posts based on assumptions too? How does my making an assumption make me any more or less of an ass than anyone else on the board?

And here is the kicker, the thread was about whether Nix is good or not, I said I wasn't too worried either way, as MY, ANO and Maia play center. You said I was a potential ass for assuming that, and in the next paragraph wrote the same exact thing. Well played.....I guess.
