Week 3 games under Kirk Ferentz haven't always been easy. The Week 3 game in 2002 was under the lights, as well, against Iowa State. Iowa fans remember that one very well and this Week 3 game is under lights, as well, this time vs. Pitt.
Iowa came back in the fourth quarter to win 31-28 against Pitt in Week 3 in 2011. That game was a big comeback victory for the Hawkeyes at Kinnick Stadium. The early line is apparently now -4.
Iowa's second string RB #33 Jordan Canzeri has three straight solid games for the Iowa offense, dating back to Iowa's bowl loss vs. Tennessee. Canzeri was a big part of the passing game in the season opener and has ran for 2 -100 yard games in the other two games. Iowa's starting RB LeShun Daniels averaged 7 yards a carry before leaving the ISU game with an early ankle injury. He ran for 100 yards in his first start in the opener.
The Pitt defense will likely game plan heavy to stop the Iowa rushing game. Iowa has shown balance in each of the games Iowa played (Illinois State 31-14; Iowa State 31-17).
Pat Narduzzi was DC in the first Iowa-MSU game in Mark Dantonio's first season at MSU. It was the 2OT game, where an Iowa freshman scored the winning TD for the Hawkeyes. There have been some close games over the years between Iowa and Michigan State. Style of play has been part of it.
Last year's game was a nail biter at Pitt, with Iowa coming back in the second half for the 24-20 win. Iowa junior QB C.J. Beathard is now 3-0 as a starter. He lead last year's comeback.
