Iowa is returning all their players, that's gonna be a real good gage for Pitt. They are giving Oregon fits right now. I would be happy if we keep that game close.

I agree. That's why we've been saying we'll get a much better read on this
team when we play St. Louis, WVU, and Iowa. Iowa is the best of those
three and we have to go there for the game. None of the teams we've played
so far is even in the same atmosphere as Iowa. You're right about "keeping
it close"...if we do that, I'll also be happy.

They look pretty big and are packing in a 2 - 3 zone vs the Ducks. Expect them to zone Pitt as well. It ought to be a difficult test for a rather young Pitt team that hasn't played together a whole lot.

I'd rate WVU higher than Iowa. I now think we beat St. Louis.

I watched WVU tonight against Monmouth and was not impressed. Iowa is
big, experienced, and talented. I feel that their guards won't be abused
the way our guards have abused the teams we've played so far. I hope
you're right about beating St. Louis, and won't be surprised if we do
well against them.

I don't like to bring up the past, but the one thing that Dixon was great at, was teaching a team how to beat a 2-3 zone.
I'm very interested in seeing how Capel Coaches them on that.

They look pretty darn good vs. UConn. Lots of length inside.

They beat Oregon and are leading UConn at the moment.

Yeah, they're pretty good. Iowa 91 - UCONN 72.
I watched some of it. Iowa's bigs will give us a lot of trouble. One of them,
the 6'11" guy hit a three. Their PG is the coach's kid, he's very good.
Coach McAfferey is a Philly guy.
Haven't changed my opinion:
1. Iowa
2. WVU
3. St. Louis

One more thing. Hurley got his ass tossed late in the game.... constantly
harassing the officials.

I'm confused why we got matched with them? Doesn't it follow preseason conference rank? Like their #1 vs. our #1, etc. Iowa seems to be much better right now as a program than Pitt.

I think Iowa was picked last in Big 10 pre-season. Obviously they are much better than that.

Last season, Iowa finished the season 14–19, 4–14 in Big Ten play to finish in a three-way tie for 11th place.

Seems?...LOL
I have no idea how they do the selection. They're on a different level than
Pitt right now. However, as long as we stay competitive with them I'll
be happy. We knew we had a few tough OOC games. This is one of
em. WVU is another, but maybe we beat ST. Louis. If all that happens
I think Capel would be pretty happy going into ACC play.

Not so sure after watching their game tonight vs UConn.
I watched Iowa last night against Oregon and that was my observation.

I did not see tonight's game (watched Volleyball beat FSU instead), so I'll accept your observation.

Well, if we can make 3s we might do better than UConn. They had an awful game shooting 3s.

They're gonna play zone against us. Hopefully we're hitting our threes and
everything else from the perimeter, because we're not going to get any
offensive rebounds. They're bigs are bigger and better than Troy's who gave
us a lot of trouble.

So do they go off of last season placement? Seems weird to me.
I used to think they tried to match up teams evenly, but I’ve noticed some uneven match ups lately. For example, remember our first year in the ACC when we were picked 5th or 6th and were matched with last place PSU?

Iowa's knock from last year, was they were absolutely terrible on D.
However they changed their D and spent all off season working on it.
They even switched from matchup 2-3 to a 1-3-1 mid game which is a cool technique you rarely see get utilized.
Pitt is gonna have to learn to use the high post, something Oregon didn't realize

Iowa is pretty clearly ahead of WVU at this juncture. Whoever argues that is simply not paying attention.

The Hoopies are losing to Western Kentucky by three with two minutes to go in the game.

Take a few possessions and go at their bigs, maybe get them into early foul trouble. Brown has good skills in the post maybe he can step up and draw a few calls :)

I didn’t see anywhere they were picked near that low, most places I saw had them between 8-10, and almost all had them above Penn St.
