Is there anyway to reprogram young jeter and artis

There exists a serious attitude problem.
I am not convinced Jeter is sloughing off yet. He might just have a bit of JJ Moore in him. But Young and Artis are head scratchers. I have, as you guys know, almost NEVER ragged on players, but like someone else posted, I have started to really dislike them

the body language still suggests this team is packing it in.

Agreed. Meant artis and young who have to play huge against cuse to have a chance

Aritis basketball iq portion of his brain may have called it a year..... But he still hit some FTs at the end there...

Tonight was the turning point in terms of team attitude. Winning this really pumped them up, and it was 2OTs. I lnow wake isnt very good but emotionally this was impactful. No mail it in, i believe theyll fight the rest of the way. Not saying thatll be enough but their hearts were jumpstarted tonight.

Just cannot figure these guys out. They just seem to have no interest in playing hard or
blocking out on defense to get a rebound. You would think after 3 yrs this would become second
nature for them. I guess they are just too selfish.

what is perplexing to me is that they have been real good on the offensive glass the last two games. Usually offensive rebounds are not a product of lack of effort. Not sure if we get them just because we miss so many shots that we can't help but get some of them or we are really working for them. Bottom line, and this has been beaten to death, certain guys just won't put in the effort on the defensive end!

We got so many offensive rebounds because we were shooting the ball so poorly and WF is a poor rebounding team. Nothing to brag about.

As for Young and Artis, if they weren't to see the court the rest of the season, it wouldn't disappoint me. Let the young guys play more, the ones who want to play. Keep JRob, Jones, Luther, Maia in there. Use Wilson, Johnson more. But keep Young and Artis off the floor as much as possible. Maybe they scored some points tonight (I know they did). But for every point they score, their lack of defense and propensity to turn the ball over accounts for an equal number of points on the other end for the opposition.

Rebounding 50% of your missed shots is worth bragging about against almost every opponent. We did way better offensive rebounding tonight than a typical team has against Wake.

Pretty much agree, young and artis look shell shocked.
Jeter does seem to have some heart, just is not a particularly good enough player to perform at a consistent level.
I have been one to note jones limitations as a player. But, I have been fine all year w his play offensively. He has that rico greer thing where he bull drives, and while his percentage isnt good, I think his three ball looks good enough to give him the green light.
It isnt ideal to have a guy like him be a prominent player, but he generally plays tough, which is not what this team does overall.

I would have the video coordinator get all the clips of them dogging it on defense, throwing their arms in the air with that stupid look on their face, all their bad body language, and poor shot selection and have a calling to Jesus with them. A professional scout sees all of this on tape. The tape does not lie. Is this what u want to be remembered for?

Did anyone notice when Young was "hurt" - no one came over to him - not even the coaching staff?? He has some serious issues w/ his teammates. No doubt.
I think it's looking more and more like Young will try and turn pro next season. Based on what you have pointed out, the weird flight to Atlanta, the benching last game for a little - it would shock me if he comes back next year.

has anyone ever seen mike young sprint? he perpetually seems to be in that like shuffle 75% run, which adds to the impression of not trying/caring enough.

That said when he had that late dunk and got a fired up, i felt a lot more confident.

As weird as it is, maybe we need to run a play or two for him to get a dunk opportunity early in the game. It seems to be the best way to get him to put effort in on the defensive end.

I disagree about Young. I was starting to think that Young was a/the problem (especially after UNC), but thanks to poor attendance last night, I sat almost right next to the Pitt bench and I was able to observe the team up close.

In my opinion, Young truly cared about winning (not his stats), and plays very hard. He is terrible on defense, and constantly gets pushed off the block (he should bulk up his lower half), but he emotional in a positive way, he worked his butt off, and his reaction after the game was actually really cool, maybe the best on the team. He was very happy to have won, and he was quick to congratulate teammates.

Artis, on the other hand, seemed totally removed from the team. I don't remember a single high five, word of praise, not even so much as a smile from the bench or on the court. He seemed to be in his own world, and I noticed very little interaction with the rest of the team. He did get into it with Brandin Knight at one point when Knight screamed at him for attempting a terrible shot.

Jeter is the worst. I really wanted to like Jeter, and I thought he provided an awesome spark off the bench when we were lagging on offense, but his body language is terrible. On numerous occasions he laughed off Dixon and Knight when they were yelling at him for being out of position (almost always). He sulked every time he got pulled, and in the overtimes, he looked totally disinterested, while the rest of the bench was up and supporting the team. It was bad.

The body language of our three juniors.... Jeter, Young, and Artis.... is horrible right now. Especially Artis.

I guarantee there will be at least 5 times in the next game when Artis tries to dribble into the teeth of the Syracuse zone and will dribble it off his own knee or otherwise turn it over.

Syracuse is the exact type of team that a jump-shooter with some height like Artis should excel. He should camp out at the ACC logo inside the foul line and make jumper after jumper all day, and when they come at him, a simple bounce pass to the block for an easy layup by Young or whoever is playing the 5 should occur. That's the weak spot of Syracuse's zone and Pitt has always exploited it well.

But Artis' frame of mind right now is cancerous.

Young doesn't want to be here, so obvious.. His defense (or lack thereof) is beyond bad and it has nothing to do with talent and all about effort and concentration. He may be better off graduating and transferring out to another program..

And yet some people think Jeter deserves all kinds of minutes that he's not getting .. I'm glad others are starting to see his me first attitude and lack of respect for his coaches and teammates .. He is a main problem on this team and its so obvious .. If you ever want to show your kid how not to act on a basketball court or how not to play defense , throw on a tape of Sheldon Jeter

I am not painting these three with the same brush.

Young is a good player with a bad attitude. He gives you effort on offense, but he is selfish and a primadonna. Defensively, he cares but blames everyone else for his lapses.

Jeter is just a sulker when he doesn't play. He thinks his athleticism should get him on the court.

I think Artis may be more confused than anything. He is a one dimensional player, an offensive minded scorer who has been in a scoring slump. He's struggling at the one thing he was good at and it has made him a mess mentally. He's playing tentatively for the most part, and he's compounding his problems on offense when he tries to be aggressive. You have to be loose to be aggressive. Tentative is bad, tentative trying to force aggressiveness is awful. I read the point shaving comments on here at halftime, so I watched him a little more closely in the second half. I really thought he gave maximum effort on defense in the second half, he is just not a good defensive player.

As far as them tuning the coach out, the coach may be Knight as much as Dixon. I saw the same episode between Knight and Artis as mentioned above. Artis actually seemed surprised that Knight was screaming at him, like he should have been congratulated for drawing a foul and getting to the line. During timeouts, Knight seemed to be loudly getting on players while Dixon was drawing up plays. As a leader during his playing days I had the impression that Knight was more respected than liked. These players were infants when Knight played, all they probably know about him is the banner in the rafters. If they don't respect him as a coach they might be just tuning him out. Of course, this is just my opinion from a single game. For all I know Artis and Knight may have a very good relationship.

He may try but unless he wants an overseas gig he's going nowhere.
