My wife’s oldest cousin, 89 yrs of age, died yesterday with the Coronavirus here in NJ. We received the dreaded call.

Last Thursday he was mowing his lawn, was out everyday, but while doing this he felt a tightening in his chest. His neighbor called for a medical transport to the emergency room. There he had his first of three heart attacks as they attended to him. They also found that he had the Covid-19. Yesterday he died. No funeral or wake planned until the virus restriction is over.

He was a man filled with life and energy. Worked as a young man for Walt Disney as an Artist and was very talented. He also did oil painting and copied some of Van Gogh including “Starry Night”.

We will miss him very much.

My cousin's best friend and husband went to an out of state wedding on March 14. The virus hit the wedding pretty hard. They both got it but neither required hospitalization.

Sorry to hear that Gregor. Before this is all over, more of us will be hearing sad news too, I'm afraid. Be strong!

    My condolences to the family.

Every family will feel the impact of this. If not a death, then some other way.

Sorry for your loss. Might have been the heart that ended his life, but it really doesn't matter much. Sounds like he had a full life.

The hospital is my workplace. I know of a woman who is in an ICU who traveled to NYC when this was all going on. She knew the risks. While in NYC, she stayed with two relatives who tested positive while she was there. Instead of self quarantining, she left and went to NJ to visit another relative. That relative tested positive while this woman was visiting. She then left NJ and jumped on a plane back to Pittsburgh, and fell ill and was admitted to a hospital here and requires multiple hospital staff members to care for her around the clock, putting them at risk as well. She likely won’t make it. And I wonder how many others won’t either due to her selfishness.

My heartfelt prayers and condolences to you and your family, J. I'm sure this will hit home for many of us sooner or later, someone in our families or who we know. Be safe and don't take any chances. We're both in that high risk age category and want to live.

My wife swears she had it back in Feb. She was in a bad way for 2 weeks, had the symptoms we all hear about and took a long time to get back to 100%, if she made it back to 100% at all. I’m hoping she did and that we all had it in some form and have built up an immunity. She’s convinced that it was here before any of us knew about it.

Like I said in another thread, when my wife and I returned from Florida via an airplane at the end of February the next day she was very sick. We thought of the Coronavirus. She went to our doctor and it was the flu. The next day I was sick. My doctor confirmed it was only a mild touch of the flu for me. We both had the Flu shot in the fall. Both of us were sick for a week.

Covid-19 is not part of last years flu shot. So maybe you both had the Covid-19 flu? How would the doctor know?

Because both doctors are knowledgeable about symptoms of the flu and colds and they confirmed them. We realize and it has been stated that the flu shot is no protection for the Covid-19.

I know you realize that. I only said that because you got the vaccine which protects you against most flu viruses but covid-19 isn’t one of them. But this is a flu virus nonetheless and doctors in Feb frankly didn’t know anything more about covid than we do and the symptoms aren’t significantly different. I think there’s a chance. For you both to have something that you were vaccinated for means that you had something new. Obviously.

But the flu vaccines we now get are only effective 40% or 50% of the time against the current strains. Getting a flu shot doesn't mean you are immune to all strains of the flu. And they can't keep up with all of the strains. They keep mutating.

You know, I would hope that having gone through what we did, that what you say is true, but I’ll be cautious and stay restricted and have the belief in what our doctors told us.

And if we did have the Covid-19 I must be Superman.

No but the doctor did not think we had it. In fact for me, he said I had a slight touch and he gave both of us medication and it went away. My wife the doctor stated that she had the Flu. I believe them like I accept the MSM...

Think your wife is right. Was talking to a good friend who lives in Baltimore on Sunday. His son lives in Colorado. His son was at a New Year's Eve party in Breckenridge, CO. Turns out a person was at the party who had just returned from a business trip to Wuhan. A short time later my friend's son and several others got ill with COVID-19 symptoms. His son has recovered but told him it also spread to a significant number of others in the town.

Again, this took place on December 31, 2019.

I actually believe my father had this late December around Christmas. He went to the Doctors Office and tested negative for the flu. He had all the symptoms that deal with Covid-19. He said that he couldn’t taste anything for a week and took him three weeks to recover.

I asked the future mother in law (who could talk about this for hours if you let her), who is head of Respiratory at a local hospital what she thought. All she said was it’s a possibility.
