1. Free admission and people will spread out as there is no assigned seats. Causes less friction for those who believe there will be problems.

2. Since game is free, it could help pay to " keep the lights on" so to speak.

3. It sure would compliment a party atmosphere. There is no adrenalin flowing like real competition and opposing fans.

4 kind of a perfect case study. I bet it gets a few more people to attend compared to those offended. Measure attendance and use it as a learning opportunity for future.

There are many who hate beer so have some other adult beverages available.

Yea i'd say go for it.
If nothing else it might make a lil $, plus the vaste majority of fans aren't "like us" and keep in the loop on every rumor etc. I'd bet a lotta people don't even know this is something that's on the table.

That's a good idea. They should definitely do that.

The notion that having beer at the spring game will serve as some sort of real world test for serving alcohol at a regular season game is, at the very least, borderline ridiculous.

That's probably true too.

Then again, the notion that selling $8 beers inside the stadium is going to increase in season attendance is every bit as ridiculous so what the hell?

So, I say throw a bone to the 50 or 100 or so people to whom this matters and let them buy their $8 beers at the spring game. What's the harm in that?

Agreed. If $8 is the dumbest thing ever it sure seems like there could hardly be any problems because so few people would buy them. I on the other hand bet they will sell 10,000, $8 beers and might make $30k a game or maybe $200,000 per year to endow scholarships. Even if it's as little as $100,000 endowment, so be it.

I bet it raises the noise level by 10% on third downs and that's a benefit too.

knowing pitt and where we stand on the priority list with regards to Heinz field, I'd venture to say we (We being pitt) get a small percentage if any of the concession revenue..

A few thousand or 20 'thousand Pitt fans want a.beer. It wont.end.up an NFL crowd. This is stupid.

Those are some oddly specific numbers. Are they based on anything?
Aramark keeps 50% of concessions the rest go to the team. I googled University of Minnesota beer sales and they made $450,000 from Aramark on $900,000 in beer and wine sales last year. I may have really Underestimated revenue.

Another article said WVU alcohol arrests were reduced because binge drinking in parking lots was reduced.

On a side note, Sodexo (WVU concessions) charges 52% so it looks like Pitt would get 48% worst case.

However, you overlook the fact that Pitt does not control the stadium and it has no privity with the concession folks at Heinz Field. Be certain, Pitt gets far less than 50% of sales from concessions at Heinz Field. I'm not saying this to piss on your party...as I honestly could careless whether Pitt sells alcohol or not during home football games in the non-Club sections of the stadium. From my perspective, if Pitt wants to sell booze at football games, and it does not decrease attendance or revenue, then it is a no-brainer to do so. Either way, I will be drinking the expensive hooch sold in the Club Seats at Heinz during each home game. Hail to Pitt!

Just curious, why do you say Pitt gets far less? There are many urban legends about what Pitt can't do and this smells like one of them. Is it 40, 30% ?

We should certainly cut Alcohol sales in Club Seats if Pitt is getting the shaft.

we cant get a decent logo on the field for chrissakes, it's safe to say we get less..

Because there was a story about it in the P-G around the time of the move to Heinz Field. Pitt has never disclosed the specifics of the lease...but considering the examples you gave were of schools that owned their stadium, which we know for a fact that Pitt does not, really does not take too much speculation to understand. Pitt makes a fraction of what it would if it owned the stadium and parking facilities...which is certainly one of the tradeoffs of moving off campus and not investing in your own facility. But to the point, nobody knows precisely how much Pitt gets from concessions, parking, etc. Hail to Pitt!

Pitt is getting the benefit of the bargain to which they agreed. Alcohol sales in the Club were intended as a benefit/bonus to encourage the sale and required donation in those sections of the stadium. Were it not for Club sales of basketball and football tickets, the very underfunded athletic department would be even worse. Dumb idea on your part. Hail to Pitt!

LOL leave it to Joe to treat a beer conversation like an unemployed factory worker hearing congress laud NAFTA.
Hysterical.

You sound like a real downer. Geeze man, enjoy life a little and try not to be confrontational.

Try to smile, Joe. It's spring.
He is a real fart in an small room today. I kind of thought we were rooting for the same team but I guess he is against anything that's remotely positive or constructive.

If this is directed at me then it makes no sense what so ever. I made no statement one way or the other in this thread about whether selling beer was a good idea or not, I merely pointed out the fact that the spring game, which generally attracts a crown well below 10,000 (and let's be honest, it's almost always below 5,000) isn't really a good indicator of what will happen in the fall when there are 40,000 or 50,000 or even 68,000 people there.

I don't understand how a completely true and completely non-controversial statement such as that could get such a rise out of you, but whatever. Perhaps you should try to smile, it is, after all, almost spring.
