It really is truly hard to believe that the ACC...

Thanks for that. Home phone is a thing of the past but I do have issues with Comcast internet at times. So maybe there’s something to that.

As far as programming and the DVR platform, I’m pretty happy. Except for the fact that I believe I have to subscribe to useless premium channels like Cinemax and showtime if I want HD. That’s frustrating.
I'd like to get rid of line phone service (whether landline or via cable), given and go strictly with wireless, but the cell coverage where I live (a valley) is too poor to be relied upon.

So whether with Comcast or Verizon fios, I need phone service bundled with my deal. Or rely on something like Vonage. Even if I'd drop my cable Tv and go purely stream only.

But you still need internet, and that still requires either Comcast or Verizon, where I am. Satellite not an option.

How is it not possible that both of these behemoths aren't going to just jack up internet- only rates for all these people who dump their cable tv and go strictly with streaming? They aren't going to give up their gravy train, they're just going to change it from beef to pork. They collude and keep their rates mutually high.

My opinion is Comcast wants to put it on a higher tier and the ACCN says no. This was the problem when the BIG channel launched.

All of the extra sports channels should be in a higher tiers, so that only the sports fans are paying for it. However, there is less money to take from grandma that way, so the networks don't want to do that because Coach McDipstick needs that $5M per year contract and the Synchronized Water Polo team needs funded.

That’s interesting. I’m not a Comcast cheerleader because I’m looking for reasons to cut the cord. I just don’t know what I would do without everything they offer and can’t imagine how fios could be better.

TV programming is going to basically be the same (except of course now for the ACCN). Biggest benefit to FIOS is Fios is 100% fiber optic. Thus better and not shared internet speeds and connections as well as VOIP Phone. And some people say they see slightly better picture quality given the bigger bandwidth.

I had Comcast at one time and FIOS was a definite improvement for me

I don't subscribe to HBO but I do to Showtime at FIOS. You have never had to buy a bundle of premium channels to get one or the other

Does anybody know what's considered a full week in the "Free Trial" game? I plan on signing up for Hulu Live tomorrow at 7:00pm. I wonder if it will last long enough where i can piggyback the pitt v ohio game @ 11:00am next sat? And then do YouTube TV free trial for thenext ACC only game! I feel like an absolute cheap sleezebucket even typing this.
if it doesn't make until the next game, do a YouTube TV free trial.

Check to see if your internet provider will support Ooma telo. I bought one several years ago and I love it.

They were $125 regular price, or $99 on sale years ago. They can be found for $50+ new on EBay now.

Once you pay for the box, the only monthly charge is for taxes. Less than $6 a month for me.

I ported my old home number, and still use my answering machine, but I could use their VM on my comping I wanted to.

I've had an Ooma for over 4 years. The only reason we keep a landline is for emergency if the kids need to dial 911. The only people who occasionally call it of importance are our parents. But even they dont call the home phone as much because we never check the messages.

That's why I use the answering machine that's part of the phone. It's cumbersome for me to check voicemail messages.

But, that's with every v/o internet phone I've tried.

Comcast is just slow to the party. There's a big shift going on, and "pay per pass" that made BTN a ton of money is becoming yesterday's model, but there's probably a long term contract lurking there between Comast and BTN. ESPN of course is the big gorilla, and they've been working on their own stand along model if they can get the revenue other than as a "pay per pass". People want sports, at least non-millenials anyway. Verizon Fios is getting it, and has lowered its overall cost down here (about $70 cheaper than Comcast pretty much for the same thing) and added ACCN right away at no extra. Fios is smart, because the difference in cost between them and cutting the cord isn't all that much really. For me $40 a month probably. That'll keep me at Fios for a while. Meanwhile, people who don't have Fios are cutting the cord like wild since YoutubeTV, Vue, Hulu etc have the sports and ACCN. Comcast eventually will have to knuckle under.

Do a trial of one of them for saturday, then do another one the next week. I bet Comcast surrenders.
