Collier had 17 and 8 vs a D2 school
Amadusun had 0 and 0 in 6 minutes vs SF PA. He is going to go down as one of the worst players ever on scholarship. Its hard to imagine anyone has brought in worse bigs than we have the last 10 years.
Karim Coulibaly had 15 and 12 for UMass-Lowell in a win over Columbia
I already like Cummings and Elliott better than Horton. So glad Femi is gone too. We legit did some addition by subtraction. If Santos started hitting some shots, even more so.

Nix played hard and actually contributed

Nix barely contributed. He averaged 2 points and 3 rebounds per game at South Alabama after he left. He was an average PSAC-level player and probably only an above average D3 player. He probably would have averaged 16 and 8 at W&J

- Netted his first points of the season against Omaha, finishing with three points and four rebounds, 12/21
- Grabbed four rebounds during his first action of the season against Gardner-Webb, 11/14
Despite some talent, good Femi would have likely been missing in action because he likes to be "the man" and this team has too much skill now (not to get carried away) for him to be allowed to hold the ball.
The hype surrounding Horton‘s offensive abilities was a total PR blunder by JC . Hopefully JC will not make this mistake again since when the kids exposed as nothing special it makes everyone look bad . Hope Horton along with Femi flourish in their new environments .
Out of all the players who’ve left the program under JC only Toney was a true loss , but he was toxic as a teammate . The good X wasn’t worth the bad X . No one else including Trey really were good enough to have changed the trajectory of the program .
It’s tough to recruit quality players with high character to a losing program without being a big time coach and playing it straight . Now that JC has been out there as Pitts HC for 4 yrs and has established some relationships and with the NIL money available you can see the results with the incoming class . Things are looking up .

Sampson George. That Randall dude from Rutgers. Uchebo, who couldn't sniff the court here but then went on to be pretty decent at Charlotte I think. Eric Hamilton or whatever from wherever he was from (UNC Greensboro or something). Rafael Maia. Alonzo Nelson-Ododa. Aaron Nwankwo. Terrell Brown. Nix. Coulibaly. Manigault (not really sure what he did after Pitt). I'm guessing Shamiel Stevenson played the 5 at some point, because that team was just so effed up (I know he at least played the 4).
Yep... Hasn't been our strong suit. Even Young was more or less out of position at the 5. And didn't we play Jeter there at times?
It is just about impossible to recruit as poorly as we have at the 5. Even when those guys transfered, most went on to do next to nothing at their respective mid-majors. Haughton averaged 2 PPG at the D2 he transferred to. Brown/Chukwuka were serviceable in the WCC but is that the level of 5 Pitt should be bringing in? An average to below average WCC 5?
I’ve told this story before but here it is again. John Thompson was quoted on bringing in big men from high school . He claims there are maybe 10 kids every yr that can come in from high school that can be impactful at the 5 as freshman . Out of those 10 8 of them are eligible to play academically. Duke , UNC , Kentucky, Kansas all get at least one of them and the rest of the schools are fighting over the other 4 . Now where would Pitt fit in ?
I dont disagree with that. But we have struck out on every single lottery ticket for 10+ years. Everyone hits on at least a few of those. You look at March Madness and all those mid-majors have lower-rated 5's who are light years better than anything we've had. I mean the guys we've gotten arent even P5 level backups. Most are barely mid-major level backups. We hit on Gary McGhee, who was good but not great but haven't hit on a single one since.
If you like your big man getting pushed around and under the basket for 4 years, he's your man...to paraphrase the late (not lamented) Dr. Oz, what a dud...
I talked to someone couple years about Nix who would know a thing or two. First they said that Ontario Lett loved him and that's why they took him. He actually had a little bit of skill that they thought could translate into a decent backup if he could just just his body into shape (which was a long road). Because Lett knew him, he thought he could work with him to do so. From what I was told, Nix did work pretty hard, but just never got anywhere close to where he needed to be physically.
Related to the above, if you look at Pitt hoops all time blocks in a season leaders, it's pretty bleak. We've had a few guys able to score underneath, but not a lot of legit rim defenders since the 90s. Jamie could cover this a bit with good perimeter defending guards, but with the PNR oriented offenses, I think you really need a guy who can rim defend on one end and dive for dunks on the other. Hoping that changes for us now with Federiko and the Diaz Graham brothers over time.
I went to the Pitt at Louisville game at the Yum! center with a bunch of Louisville fans. They all laughed at him during warm ups. He was kind of an oddity.
Dixon didn't want Tyrone at all from what I understood. But Slice thought a shot blocker was really needed and that's why we got Haughton. Once Slice left, Pitt really just left him. They honored his scholarship but that was about it. I actually felt bad for the kid.
Mo Gueye blocking more shots than Steven Adams is not something I expected to see.
TBF Adams only played 23 minutes a game here. That season in retrospect I find a little frustrating, even if at the time it was a welcome improvement from the mess the year before.
For what it's worth, in his All American soph year, Blair played 27 minutes a game.
I do think he played starters minutes in all his NCAA tournament games, I assume the number was more about rest in the regular season since he was a little heavy and we were rolling?

If he plays the post I'd put Federico in the game and just run pick and rolls over and over and over. Because Federico appears to be really good at rim running and in his time here Collier didn't guard the pick and roll right even one time.
Amadasun is so bad that Peace was impressive in comparison. But he probably starts for the Northern Ireland National Team.
Corey Manigault had a pretty solid couple years at New Mexico, but always seemed to have some sort of problems with multiple suspensions. Last I heard about him he was playing pro ball in Cyprus and was the victim of some sort of random attack that nearly killed him.
What happened to him was tragic but my total guess is wasnt as random as it was the result of a bunch of drunk guys getting into trouble at 2AM in a bar district
