Ed Bozik is the 1 that effectively ruined Pitt football.
Mike Gottfried went 27-16-2 in 4 years at Pitt, and Bozik fired him after going 7-3-1 in 1989 (citing philosophical differences). Then Bozik didn't really even do a thorough search, and hires OC Paul Hackett, who was way worse than Foge Fazio. I think Fazio could coach, but couldn't recruit. His first two years, he went 17-6-1. Hackett couldn't coach. He went 13-20-1, and most of that time, he had Alex Van Pelt, who broke most of Marino's passing records. He had some really good
NFL caliber players as well, like Curtis Martin, Sean Gilbert, Keith Hamilton, Ricardo McDonald, Tom Tumulty, Ruben Brown, etc. And it didn't help that during his tenure, Penn St. joined the Big 10.
