Best on court Assets: Leadership / Poise / Passing / Secondary scoring
A balanced point guard that can push the pace on the fast break or play in the half court, Jaland Lowe is a true point guard but can play off the ball if needed at 6’2+. He led his team to the Peach Jam Final 4, the biggest / toughest high school basketball tournament in the country, eventually losing in the Final 4 to the National Champions. Crafty playmaker that can successfully dribble drive off the bounce or push it in transition, with excellent vision passing the ball and finding teammates with strong assist to turnovers numbers. Picks his spots well and a strong finisher inside 10 feet with the ability to finish with either hand. Loves using floaters and has a number of floaters he uses inside 10 feet from different angles on both sides. Uses stepbacks from the midrange and 3, jabsteps, and crossovers all in his offensive package. Has good ball control overall and a good chunk of his turnovers were errant passes trying to set up teammates. Very crafty on the inside scoring and making plays against taller players.
A solid defensive player that uses his wingspan to force turnovers and deflect passes, he was a 2 time all league defensive selection in the EYBL. 2 areas of improvement to work on the defensive end is closing out better while respecting 3 point shooters and foot speed to keep his man in front to slow down dribble penetration. He is an average rebounder with respectable athletic ability.
Lowe has the potential to be a high level player and very dangerous player in college with further development of his 3 point shot which is what helped make Lucas a star at Oklahoma State. When on, he becomes dangerous on offense and has shown ability to take games over, scoring and passing simultaneously. He is a respectable scorer now that keeps the defense honest with a chance to be a really good scorer down the road. He’s capable from 3, as he shot 54% from 3 his prior high school season but needs to consistently make them against better competition. He has the ability to make shots off the bounce both from midrange and from 3, but needs better game to game shooting consistency.
Lowe has recently turned 18 years old and will be 19 before stepping foot on Pitt. His leadership on the floor as an overall player / person should not be underestimated. He can lead a team and an offense and uses communication on both ends effectively. A quality student and proven winner, he is a legit Top 80-100 4 star talent with the ability to rise higher with better 3 point shooting consistency, his number 1 area of focus his senior season.
