Best on court Assets: Leadership / Poise / Passing / Secondary scoring

A balanced point guard that can push the pace on the fast break or play in the half court, Jaland Lowe is a true point guard but can play off the ball if needed at 6’2+. He led his team to the Peach Jam Final 4, the biggest / toughest high school basketball tournament in the country, eventually losing in the Final 4 to the National Champions. Crafty playmaker that can successfully dribble drive off the bounce or push it in transition, with excellent vision passing the ball and finding teammates with strong assist to turnovers numbers. Picks his spots well and a strong finisher inside 10 feet with the ability to finish with either hand. Loves using floaters and has a number of floaters he uses inside 10 feet from different angles on both sides. Uses stepbacks from the midrange and 3, jabsteps, and crossovers all in his offensive package. Has good ball control overall and a good chunk of his turnovers were errant passes trying to set up teammates. Very crafty on the inside scoring and making plays against taller players.

A solid defensive player that uses his wingspan to force turnovers and deflect passes, he was a 2 time all league defensive selection in the EYBL. 2 areas of improvement to work on the defensive end is closing out better while respecting 3 point shooters and foot speed to keep his man in front to slow down dribble penetration. He is an average rebounder with respectable athletic ability.

Lowe has the potential to be a high level player and very dangerous player in college with further development of his 3 point shot which is what helped make Lucas a star at Oklahoma State. When on, he becomes dangerous on offense and has shown ability to take games over, scoring and passing simultaneously. He is a respectable scorer now that keeps the defense honest with a chance to be a really good scorer down the road. He’s capable from 3, as he shot 54% from 3 his prior high school season but needs to consistently make them against better competition. He has the ability to make shots off the bounce both from midrange and from 3, but needs better game to game shooting consistency.

Lowe has recently turned 18 years old and will be 19 before stepping foot on Pitt. His leadership on the floor as an overall player / person should not be underestimated. He can lead a team and an offense and uses communication on both ends effectively. A quality student and proven winner, he is a legit Top 80-100 4 star talent with the ability to rise higher with better 3 point shooting consistency, his number 1 area of focus his senior season.

Lowe against Mokan, the AAU National Champions at Peach Jam, a game loaded with talent against the best team in the country. Lowe is #15, white.

More good news for the Bb program .

Stability in their program is starting to pay dividends in recruiting .

Those who constantly pontificate that JC wins big this yr or he’s gone will be disappointed. JC is finally able to sign some of the players THEY want not what’s left over and that’s the formula for developing a winning program.

Well
This is encouraging but wins are what matters ultimately
Verbals can change as we’ve seen if we crap the bed

but this class is looking good and encouraging so far

There seems to be a lot of positive momentum and I’m choosing to believe it will turn into W’s , making watching Pitt Bb fun again .

How tall is Jaland Lowe. The above says 6-2+. Rivals says only 6-0. I don’t like the shorter version in ACC play.

About 6'2ish is what Lowe is, Rivals is wrong / not updated.

Ty-laur Johnson is small, he is around 5'11 or a tad taller. which is the only reason his national ranking is as low as it is from site to site because Johnson is considered to not have much NBA potential with his height from the recruiting services.

Thanks. I really also like that he is left handed (shoots his jumper with the left hand). I think having your left be your strong hand can be an advantage in hoops--even though good players are pretty nearly ambidextrous handling the ball and driving to the hoop.

Has a nice stroke but abysmal shooting percentages from deep in the big tournaments is a concern

Lowe gearing up for the high school season from 3 recent games. Shows a little bit of everything that I said above.

Basketball letter of intent early signing period for 2022/‘23 runs from November 9th-16th, 2022.

So the current Pitt verbals can all become signees in about 1 month from now. Capel and company need to do everything they can to make that happen.

Then continue to recruit and add more of the guys they want the most. An impressive and improved Pitt team and record this season should help with doing that. But no doubt, recruits need to see the results.
