Don't think this has been posted, but I found this article today: https://www.inquirer.com/high-schoo...wn-school-basketball-recruiting-20200124.html

Some interesting information. Pitt is mentioned specifically as a program showing him the most interest, as well as Xavier, Temple, Penn State, and Oregon. He sounds like an interesting kid...he really likes architecture - Pitt, of course, has a fine architecture department, and we're all aware of the variety of interesting buildings on campus that might impress a young architecture fan on a visit.

Some quotes:

“Jalen is so gifted, if you pressure him, he’s going to make you pay,” said Seth Berger, T.J’s father and the Moose’s longtime coach. “If you play half-court defense, he’s going to make you pay. If you play zone, he’s going to make you pay.”

Warley said his priorities for a college program are a trustworthy coaching staff, a challenging schedule, a welcoming school community, and a challenging academic environment. “It will be similar to the high school process, just a coach that I can trust and a program that believes in me and not only has a good basketball program but a good community and high academics,” Warley said.

"His IQ is off the charts and now his skill level has caught up to his IQ,” Seth Berger said. “He’s still young [17]. It’s probably happened faster than he thought. But his goal is to be an NBA basketball player and that goal is now in sight.”

“I’m really fascinated by it (architecture),” Warley said. “I like math. I kind of like drawing and that’s kind of a mixture of the two. Just being able to use my mind in a creative way, similar to basketball, that’s definitely something that’s intriguing to me.”

Total pseudo-science on my part, but I bet there is a positive correlation between testing well on spatial reasoning (architecture) and being a good point guard. Kind of like how the military has found that such a positive correlation exists between people who test well on it and those who do well as a pilot.

I've seen his film and he has real talent as a distributor. He's already a really special kid and I think he'll be a very special college player.

Appreciate you sharing this. Warley sounds like not just an impressive player, but also a very impressive person. These types of insights are good information.

"Warley is the son of former Frankford star and St. Joseph’s player Jason Warley and the nephew of former Hawks star Carlin Warley."

Not everyone's memory goes back that far, but that would make him the grandson of 1960s NBA player Ben Warley.

Which NBA team did Ben Warley play for? I was an always disappointed NY Knicks fan while in HS in NY and later in college during the end of the 1050s and into the 1960s but I think I would remember him if he had been a Knick prior to the Reed, Bradley, Debusscher (Sp?) era when the Knicks won an NBA title.

Basketball reference says he played for Syracuse, Philly (those two being the same franchise of course) and Baltimore over five seasons in the NBA, then played three seasons in the ABA with Anaheim, LA and Denver.

Warley moved up to #28 in Rivals' 2021 rankings. Ahead of fellow PA point guards Rahsool Diggins (#43) and Stevie Mitchell (#104).

Don't think we're involved as much with either Diggins or Mitchell. Warley is now the #1 player in the state. The big boys are going to start sniffing.

Got some bad news for ya , Pitt doesn’t have an architecture department ! They do some some older buildings though .

My point was more tongue-in-cheek; Warley wants to make his career as a basketball player, not an architect...but I should have said that Pitt has an architecture "program," since Pitt's B.A. and B.S. architecture degrees are a program within the Department of Art History and Architecture.

@Corey Evans ALWAYS speaks highly of Capel's recruiting efforts/prowess and tends to name very highly-regarded players that they are recruiting. Vader's got some insight as well. I won't get too excited until the players are actually in uniform and on the court for Pitt. Tempered expectations, for the most part.

Steel Curtan (Vader) has no insight. He regurgitates what he reads on subscription based recruiting sites and then spins into how the kid loves Pitt so much.

Corey Evans mentions Warley/Pitt. Also says we are in a good spot with Sanogo and one of a few standing out for Njoku.

I saw that the other day. Evans implying that Pitt is in a similar spot with Sanogo as they are with Jeffress was certainly interesting, given everything we've heard about where Jeffress' recruitment seems to be headed.

A three man 2021 class with Warley, Jeffress (if he doesn't go 2020), and Sanogo would be fantastic.

Corey Evans talks about Pitt, and positively, quite a bit. I think he might be the most positive national writer about any of our athletic programs that I can think of.

Would love to finish 2020 with Jeffress and then take a small but elite class of Sanogo and Warley in 2021.

I agree on both counts. If Jeffress goes to 2020, I still think we do a three man class in 2021...but that's because I think, ultimately, Xavier is a three year player at this point (not trying to get into another Xavier debate, that's just where I see it going) and I think there will be three slots available for 2021 regardless of what Jeffress does.

That's a good point. I do think it's more than likely he leaves after 3, whether that means the NBA or overseas. Nothing wrong with that either.
