If anybody can provide a reasonable explanation of why Dixon continues to play Artis 30 plus minutes a game no matter how lazy or sloppy he is playing .. Please let me know , seriously .. Somebody suggested it was maybe because he's the only one Dixon trusts besides James .. I can't agree with that .. Because Everytime Artis dribbles the ball or looks to make a pass I hold my breath and pray he doesn't lose the ball at his feet or throw a pass 10 feet into the stands .. You combine that with his overall lack of effort on defense .. And it is just mind blowing how he seemingly can do no wrong in Dixons eyes .. I mean .. He benched young already and reduced his minutes .. But never anything with Artis .. He basically just does what he wants out there .. Crazy .. He's the perfect example of the OPPOSITE of what made Pitt great the last 15 or so years .. Can't wrap my head around it

A guy like Jaron Brown would eat his lunch. Brown was the only guy in college who would give Carmelo issues at times. I miss the good ole days.

Well, with no backup to JR and JR's passivity at the point, Dixon has tried to use Artis the way he used Patterson as a point forward (to make something happen and to act as a surrogate PG)which is why he plays so much. The problem is that Artis is beyond erratic and has a BB IQ that's a negative number.

After the Duke game all was right in Pantherland now after two tough loses while keeping the opponents in the 60's and out rebounding them let's get rid of everybody and start over. Send Artis and Young to Europe send JD to Vegas and JRob to purgatory . Artis ,Young and JRob are their three best players so I'm sure they'd be better off without all of them. Let's send a coach who the rest of college basketball respects packing and if he stays let's fire all the assistants even though no one on this board has any idea what all their responsibilities are. We can find a coach who sits quietly on the bench while gentlemanly extolling his troops to play hard. While your shooing him out the door you can also write a check for what 10 mil so you can bankrupt the athletic department and hire an up and comer because you have no money left and no big name coach is coming here oh except for Sean Miller because why would he want to stay at a school like Az when he could come to Pitt. I'm just glad those who feel this way don't run anything I'm involved with.

In addition to what Del said, in the GT game Cam Johnson was unavailable and Chris Jones was in foul trouble so there were few options at the 3.

My mistake on that tried to check stats but wifi keep going out and wasn't able to see the game ,but doesn't change the fact that those posters who want drastic changes and constantly complain will be disappointed. Pitt had a nice window of outperformance but thinking that radical changes will bring that era back are wrong . Pitt needs to find a way to recruit better and since they don't hire strippers ,prostitutes ,payoff parents ,coaches or handlers,don't play ball in a recruiting hot bed or recruit bad actors they have a tough road to hoe. They need to go back to Pitt style ball mature ,strong ,Physcial teams with guys who've been in the program 4/5 yrs that play defense and rebound and guess what they have the perfect coach for that style. They will never out recruit the Dukes ,UNC ,and Louisvilles of the world and trying to is just a waste of time .If it makes you happy to constantly bitch who am I to tell you not to , enjoy yourself ,but this isn't Kentuckey or Duke were talking about its Pitt and this still is better bb than most of Pitts history. I wouldn't be surprised with a change on the staff but wholesale changes just aren't in the cards and by the way the last two games Pitt lost to teams with similar conference records on the road in closely contested games. After watching them play all year did you really expect them to reproduce their Duke performance ?

That is the answer. JD's current philosphy of the use of the SF and Artis' skill set. Not saying he is playing worth spit, just saying, JD has built things around this concept.

There's not nearly as much talent below Artis' neck as posters on this board want to believe. He is not the player some want to believe he is, and he never was. He's a decent offensive player who has some versatility but who doesn't do anything especially well.

I concur with this assessment but yet he's still Pitt's second or third best player....,sad.
