James Conner For Heisman

James is great but his numbers are pretty far off from the top rushers. He could definitely come back next year and compete for it though.

Baylor was only 9-3 when Griffin won it and Luck was the prohibitive preseason favorite. If there's enough steam behind it it could happen.

Conner is a great person, story and back, but he doesn't deserve to be in the Heisman conversation this year.

50th in Div 1-a total rushing yards
150th in yards per carry
only 1200 total yards and 17 TD's

Here is what is wrong with college football:

Yards Rushing Opponent
117 Penn State
111 OK. St.
141 Va. Tech
132 Clemson
---------------------
34 Marshall
53 Villanova

Would it be impressive if James Conner had 200 yards rushing against Marshall and Villanova?

Definitely not winning. BUT, if he closes with a strong game v. the Orange, he may get an invite due to his incredible story, an incredible season given the circumstances and what he's doing off the field. And, honestly, that's what this is really about and that would be amazing press for a kid that deserves all the press he can get.

Seems to be the case. Voters always look at those games and wonder why there wasn't more yards. What they don't take into consideration is if the game was a blow out or if the athlete played the whole game.

Don't be ridiculous. Even if Conner goes for 300 yards in Saturday, he won't be in the top 10, let alone a finalist.

That's what they might Say the award is about, but in the real world it's about giving it to the best player on a team that is a contender. The contender clause might ignored if someone is having a truly outstanding year. Stats win the Heisman, stories do not. That's how it's been as long as I can remember, it wouldn't be fair to change it now.

Here's the stats of 4 running backs, tell me which you think deserves Heisman consideration.

#1 - 1467 yards 17 tds 6.1 ypc 400 r/yds 1 r/td Team= 8-3
#2 - 945 yards 14 tds 5.0 ypc 254r/yds 3 r/tds Team= 8-4
#3 - 1367 yards 19 tds 6.5 ypc Team= 9-2
#4 - 1863 yards 15 tds 6.4 ypc Team= 5-6

Oh wait, #3 is Lamar Jackson who has 3000 passing yards and and a 28/6 TD/I to go along with it.

No, it isn't. It's about giving it to the best skill position player on a team that is a contender. That's how our pal Jason White won it in a year that he wasn't even one of the three or four best players on his own team, let alone in all of college football.

If he returned for his senior season he'd be the front runner b/c he'd be full strength.
But he's gone. He crushes blitzers as good as any college RB I've seen, can catch the ball, and will run a sub 4.6 for scouts.
He's gone in the Top 3 rounds. Fingers crossed it's to the Steelers. I'd actually start watching their games again if that happened.

Makes perfect sense given their penchant for using RBs in the passing game. Kudos to James for turning his receiving skills from a weakness into a strength.
