Jamie Dixon's last 2 recruiting classes at pitt

^ Would have lost to this year's Pitt team. 'Nuff said.

You can even throw in Jumpin' Justice Kithcart, Crisshawn Clark Kent, and Scorey Corey Minotaurigault just to make it a little closer.

They were bad , but Clark got injured , Manguilt turned into a decent college player and Milligan wasn’t a bad player . He’d have desperately needed his next class to be great .

lol show what? His earlier class with Luther and Johnson was eviscerated but it ended up a great class.

Luther? Really? I like Luther, but c'mon. He only averaged 8 & 5 for a bad Arizona team.

Cam developed over time, but he was nothing special until his senior year at Carolina.

Those 2 guys are hardly enough to have a big impact. They didn't really stay healthy anyway.

I'll always remember, I think it was the fall of 2015 at or before the early signing period and Tony Carr and Lamar Stevens from Philadelphia both committed to Penn State. I could be wrong, but I think both committed to PSU over Pitt and me saying to myself how the magic seemed gone from Pitt hoops.

With Pitt's previous 15 years of success, I thought it was so bad to lose two kids to PSU.

No doubt.

When Jamie had the most equity, one would think he could cash in on some recruits who could help the team meet or exceed tournament expectations for the first time ever. Instead our recruiting slid.

One of life’s big mysteries.

Those were big misses, along with Rowan (never amounted to much, but demoralizing nevertheless) and Heron. And then Cheick Diallo, who I'm pretty sure was teammates with Damon Wilson, chose to ride the pine at Kansas over coming here. Not sure exactly how close we were to landing him, but I think we were among his final considerations.

On top of all that, Young and Artis were great players but they just never seemed to possess the mentality of the Pitt basketball leaders who came before them.

Rozelle Nix
Damon Wilson
Jon MIlligan

Justice Kithcart
Corey Manigult
Crisshawn Clark

any time you want to talk about jamie dixon, look back at his last two classes..
He was trending down. But you don't let him walk unless you can do better.

I said at the time, he had to miss 3 NCAA Tournaments in a row, to be coaching for his job the next season.

Manigault was an ok player in the MWC, might have been a good backup here but had mental problems. Milligan was awful.

For Stevens, it was Pitt, PSU, or Indiana. Chambers had he and Carr paid but Jamie was getting dirty around that time too with Birch and Adams. He needed to land Stevens and Carr. Carr was considering Pitt but not as much as Stevens. His 2 NCAATs at TCU are the result of 2 different package deal assistants. He needed to do that at Pitt.

Yes those 2 classes weren't good but does anyone really believe he wouldn't have gotten some nice classes again if he were still here? I mean Capel can't land anyone, 1 recruit last year and next year nobody! Give me a break.

Carr would have stepped in perfectly and filled the hole that Robinson left. He was limited and we would have complained about him a ton, but it would have been complete continuity at that position. And Stevens would have been an all-conference kid for us at wing to just fill in after Artis left.

I don't care about silly recruiting class rankings. That's just BS. I care about results on the court. And those kids playing at TCU against Arizona looked a hell of a lot better and more engaged in the game than anyone we have here now. They might have been some nebulous 2* or 3* players, but they played together as a team and fought. We have neither the coach that motivates nor the players to get motivated.

I agree with you. But I think it's fair to point out we didn't see a product like Jamie has put on the court the last month at any point in his last 5 years at Pitt.

We did however, get a lot of complaining about the move to the ACC.

TCU has 3 players.

- the package deal guy (Miller)
- Mike Miles (#179 recruit)
- Lumpkin (extreme big guy lottery ticket that he hit on)

And that's all you need in college basketball. A PG, a wing, a big and everyone else plays a role.

If Pitt were to get a Charlie Moore from Miami type, we could go to the NCAAT. We'd have the big, the PG, and would need Femi, Burton, or Sibande to step up. It doesn't take much

Let’s just have a little fun (read: this won’t be fun) projection/history revision:

2016-17:
PG - Tony Carr
SG - Cam Johnson
SF - Artis
PF - Luther
C - Young

2017-18:
PG - Carr
SG - Johnson
SF - Lamar Stevens
PF - Luther
C - ???

That’s two almost certain NCAA tournament rosters, even with the uncertainty at center (especially considering Dixon got competent center play out of grad transfers before), with the 2016-17 roster being right up there in talent with Dixon’s best.

not sure, maybe but maybe not. to say the program was in a decline is an under statement. i am not anti Dixon nor am i a JIG, just someone that gets annoyed by both sides..

to say we havent had a good succession plan is another understatement. and yes, i'd take borderline teams with dixon than the garbage we've seen the last 6 years..

Also, around this time I seem to recall Dixon hesitant to offer Konate.

Maybe he was WVU's all the way, but Carr, Stevens, Cam and Konate are a hell of starting four.

Are you for real? The 13 and 14 teams finished 11th and 16th in kenpom respectively. They were also both massively underseeded. They were both very good teams...maybe not up to the pre 2011 teams, but still very good.

You have some atrocious takes.

Manigault was an ok player in the MWC, might have been a good backup here but had mental problems. Milligan was awful.
Manigualt actually went pro in Europe somewhere, was in the news for getting beaten really bad in some sort of bar fight.

Damon Wilson was a huge bust. Ranked 110 in the nation and a 4 star on 247
I don’t know if he was a “bust” - he was a 10 minute per game backup as a freshman here and was perfectly fine in that role, then his sophomore year he was unlucky enough to be coached by Kevin Stallings, and he got run out of the program. He sat for a year, then had two fine, above-average seasons at Georgia State. But his most efficient season was probably his freshman year…which was under Dixon here. Who knows what he would have been if he was with Dixon for longer and not Stallings, but you can’t argue that his career wasn’t totally upended when Dixon left.

Carr was never ever coming to Pitt. It’s not really a what if scenario with him. He really wanted to go to Temple but Chambers made a special move. You gotta do something egregious for Fran Dunphy to take a shot at you publicly.

Stevens no showed on his visit to Pitt. Talked to Bill Barton that day and he was pissed.

When you are paid to play a game -
It makes you a pro

granted the concept of being paid is likely foreign to you

Ya think, PharmaBro? You're quite the sharp one. I was being sarcastic. And its barely pro. More like semi-pro. Fast food workers make more than "pro" basketball players in low-level Euro leagues

Pitt should have given Dixon more money for assistants and facility upgrades. They turned him down and tried to cut corners. Recruiting would have picked up.
We should never have faith in Pitt’s administration to make the right decision, sadly and frustratingly.
