Jamie staying the course

Gee, why would he visit Diallo when clowns and trolls like smfraud, proclaim endlessly that he is KY bound. Gee, Dixon ignoring the troll smfraud What is wrong with Dixon. Doesn't he know that trolls on the internet who come to hate on a program know it all.

I don't think what that suggests it all. It isn't a whiff every time Pitt misses on a recruit.

It does sound like he missed based on what was written, but one never knows how hard a team recruits a kid. Either way, every school misses on kids.

I think the article is not particularly accurate. There is more up to date and correct information on here.

FWIW, Benji Bell's coach said Pitt only started recruiting Bell this Spring and hadn't offered yet just a week before he signed with FSU. Big difference from what Harris reported.

And the list of players on the radar mentions only one kid we're looking at in 2016, and according to some accounts, Pitt may have switched their the priorities on PG recruits to others months ago. He doesn't mention committed players like Top 25 Heron and Manigault.

There's been zero mention of the juco Boucher since his offer was announced out of nowhere.

It has been widely reported that Uchebo will not be back, and there is no mention at all of Rowan. I know Rowan is probably a bigger longshot than Diallo but any article on Pitt recruiting that doesn't mention him is not much of an effort.

I guess having any article is better than nothing, but there is not a lot of insight here.

The best part of that article was the last paragraph. ND had the same guys returning, yet Brey says they were able to improve greatly on defense. Gives me a little more optimism for the next two years.

I have no problem with John Harris, but it's not surprising that most message board posters have more insight about Pitt basketball than probably every local newspaper or radio person in the area. I think Harris even covers Pitt for the Trib. Zeise probably has a little more insight at least, but yeah that article didn't really tell any of us anything new.

Unless we hit home runs in recruiting, and those have been rare here, most of the improvement we can reasonably expect will come from sophomores becoming juniors and juniors becoming seniors.

We have two seasons to enjoy that but the staff must fill the pipeline with more raw material. This Spring is probably more for immediate patches and we haven't done too well with that over the years. The "recruit solid kids and coach them up to be men against boys" model was successful before. It can be again, but it takes time.

I'd love to hit a home run or two in the next few weeks but realistically, the 2016 recruiting will go a long way to writing the future of Pitt basketball.

Mostly, they had Grant returning. Vasturia, Jackson & Auguste

all improved tremedously. Credit to Brey for a great season. But earlier in the year, they weren't great. We shot 58.5% in our win, with 50% from the arc.

Re: Mostly, they had Grant returning. Vasturia, Jackson & Auguste

Wasn't Vasturia their PF? Maybe it was Connaughton, but I thought it was Vasturia. I'll save that one for any future debate about whether you can win while playing guys out of their natural position.

They did improve....

greatly on defense, but the fact is that they actually improved a lot more on offense.

In 2014 Notre Dame was 43 on offense and 204 on defense. This year they were 2 on offense and 103 on defense. They improved 7.1 points per 100 possession on defense but a whopping 11.2 points per 100 possessions on offense. And I think that's actually the most likely path for Pitt if they are to take a large step (or two) forward next season. Turn a below average defense into an above average one, but also turn a good offense into a very good (or better) offense. Because quite frankly I can't see a team with the core that we have ever becoming a very good defense.

They sorta played with 3 guards, a SF & PF.

Nice ballclub with not much size nor depth.

Connaughton was their 4 but really, it was a 4 guard lineup. And Connaughton is an infinitely better rebounder and defender than Artis or Jeter at the 4.

The Young/Artis defense/rebounding combo really hurts this team bad. Offensively, its fine. Which is why we're scrambling to find a center. Thorne/Young for example is an excellent defense/rebounding combo. Young can rebound his position but we need a true 5 to let him do that.

I thought the article implied that Barton was actually doing something besides looking lost.
