Jay vs Jamie at PPG

Cmon man, no one is comparing Jamie Dixon to Jay Wright or even finding that interesting. They are on totally different levels in the coaching hierarchy.
Right, Dixon can’t shine wrights shoes

I wasn’t comparing Jay to Jamie. I am saying it would be an interesting storyline for Jamie to return home to play an old rival, who incidentally, he never lost to in Pittsburgh.

Admittedly I skipped over the part about it possibly being played at PPG.

2nd Round. That would be quite the storyline.
As I have tickets to the games that would be a fun matchup but the seeds won’t work.

TCU, after the loss to WVU, is pretty safely on the 8/9 lines I think. Villanova a 3, maybe a 2 if they win the BET.

You might get Oats-Wright in Rd 2. Alabama might be a 6, Nova a 3. Nico Medved might be here as a 6 as well.

If prefer the 3/6 games as opposed to 2/7. More upset chances. I would be fine though if it’s a ten and it’s TCU

Nova is locked in at PPG. So, I'm thinking a 2 vs 7/10 TCU is possible

Maybe. That’s probably the best bet to get that matchup but TCU doesn’t seem likely to drop to a 10 with their good wins. Could they move up to a 7?? Possible but I think they would need to beat Texas AND Kansas in the Big 12 tourney.

The other “high” seeded team in Pittsburgh is really up for grabs. Most likely bet is Tennessee as a 3, but if they win the SEC tournament they could pop all the way to a 2 seed, maybe play in Indy.

I think the other high seed team will be a SEC team, but there are ways it could be Kentucky (if they lose early and drop to a 3), possibly Arkansas if they make a huge run in the SEC Tourney.

What a freaking terrible fanbase. My god.
Oh come on. Stop painting the fan base as one thing based on a what a guy posts on a message board.

I would guarantee that if Jamie were back in Pittsburgh, that building would be electric.

What's the over/under on the number of times they would replay the Scottie Reynolds thing during the broadcast?

Like 8.5?

Yea, I hate always getting Nova. Jay is going to have more wins in Pittsburgh than Capel soon. I'm hoping the other team is Kentucky. If they win the SECT, their a lock for Indy but if they dont, maybe they come here.

If Jamie could just make it to the second round it would be a big story.
Anyone can make it to the second round. One team gets hot for a game and the other goes cold and that’s all it takes. Making the the second round isn’t much of an achievement. For a P5 team, it’s a much lesser achievement than making the field of 64 in the first place.

Yeah.

I was just taking a dig at Jamie. He's only made it past the first round once in the past decade. We have some on here that seem to think he's an elite coach or something.

I agree -- it would be a very interesting story line.

I'm not sure if Jay vs Jamie sells any extra tickets but you wonder how much the committee pays attention to these types of things. NCAAT attendance will most likely be at an all-time low this year not counting last year. I remember when I had to enter a lottery for Civic Arena NCAAT tickets and couldn't get them. Now, attendance is so bad, they aren't even selling the endzone sections for the 1st Round.....and believe it or not, Pittsburgh is one of the better 1st/2nd Round towns. You watch some of those 1st Round games and there's like 5000 people there. Which makes me wonder if they should move 1st/2nd Round to campus sites. It would make the regular season so much more meaningful as the top 16 seeds would get to host.

If TCU beats Texas in the first round of the B12, they could get a 7 seed.

To be honest though, I really don't want TCU and Dixon to play in Pittsburgh. I just don't want any reminders at all from the past. I don't want any stories by the local media about Dixon (and you KNOW they would). Just too depressing.

They reserve some tickets for the schools that are playing. The tickets are expensive on Ticketmaster and showing up as limited in the lower level.

I don’t know what seating charts you are looking at but there are lots of upper deck end zone seats for sale. I should know because I bought some of them for the afternoon session for a good price for me, my son and his friends.

Anything in the lower bowl right now are really expensive and not many seats available.

They certainly don't reserve 4000 upper deck endzone seats for the schools. They've always sold those and would gladly do so but the demand isn't there. This is no surprise as sports attendance is down post-Covid. And with Pitt being so bad for so long, I would say general interest in college basketball is at an all-time low.

That is just simply wrong. For the Friday afternoon session the only lower level end zone seats for sale are resell tickets. In the upper level the bottom half to two thirds of all the sections are sold. And the Friday night and Sunday sessions are about the same.

Once they announce which teams are playing in Pittsburgh there is a really good chance that all the rest of the tickets will be sold. Especially if Villanova and Ohio State end up here, which seems to be a popular pick.

You can imagine a scenario pretty easily where one of the pods has Nova as a 3, Ohio St as a 6, and then like UNC or maybe like Xavier as an 11 seed and the place will be mobbed.

On the other hand if it’s like Tennessee, St Mary’s and like SMU, there will be lots of empty seats.

I already have tickets for the afternoon and might get evening tickets as well but sorta wanted to see who was here first.

I think if the only sorta nearby team that ends up in Pittsburgh is Ohio State the place will be sold out within an hour of the announcement.

But I agree, if they get the wrong mix of teams they probably won't sell many more tickets. So instead of selling 18,000 they'll sell 17,500. The notion that demand is so soft that they aren't selling end zone seats is absolutely wrong. As is obvious to anyone who looks at the map of available tickets.

Ohio State hates basketball. They had a good amount of fans as a 2 seed a few years ago but they dont even sell out their home games and their season tickets are cheaper than Pitt's. To be fair, few programs have season tickets as expensive as Pitt's.

If it is going to happen, you got the right results this weekend. I think all of the Big 10 teams are now 3 seeds, so you can get Nova on the 2 line, Jamie might get to the 7 line.

I hope the committee has a sense of humor and gives us a Arkansas-Indiana 6/11 matchup (although that seed feels a little low for Arkansas) and then Jamie as a 7 seed here. Give us all the former Pitt connections.

Also Nelly Cummings in the 1/16 Nova/Colgate game. Maybe even get Rutgers and BK and Calipari in there too.

Actually, I think Kentucky lost their chance at staying "home" in Indy today and could very well wind up in Pittsburgh.

I don’t know what they are going to do for locations.

Tennessee is closer to Greenville and Indy than Pittsburgh. If they win the SECT, why not reward them.

Buffalo - Providence

Pittsburgh - Nova

Indy - Purdue

Milwaukee - Wisconsin, Illinois

Greenville - Duke

I think those locations are locked. But you have the 3 SEC teams, and then maybe Arkansas, Iowa? UConn? for that last “eastern” protected seed.

Just for fun, I’ll go on the record and say Pittsburgh gets these games:

7 - Colorado St
10 - Miami

2 - Villanova
15 - St Peters

7 - Ohio State
10 - Davidson

2 - Tennessee
15 - Jacksonville St

Kentucky is a lock for Indy. Who else could you possibly see going to Indy instead of them?

I think Tennessee could have an argument if they win tomorrow. It’s a closer trip, and they could…maybe, be higher on the S Curve if they win.

I think TCU is pretty locked into an 8 seed, but sending Dixon to Pittsburgh, especially with scenario you described would take more than a sense of humor. It would take a totally SICK sense of humor. Having said this, it's probably going to happen ... just because.

TCU is a funny team. They look like a 6-7 seed to me just when I watch them play, but with their metrics, I could see them as low as a 10. So, if Pittsburgh gets a 2 seed (which they will), I do think they could be here as a 7 or 10. Who knows.

Kentucky is a lock for Indy. Who else could you possibly see going to Indy instead of them?

Buffalo - Providence, Ten/UK
Pittsburgh - Nova, Ten/UK

Greenville - Duke, Auburn
Fort Worth - Baylor, TT

Milwaukee - Ill, Wis
Indianapolis - Kansas, Purdue

Portland - Gonzaga, Arl
SD - Az, UCLA

Kansas is 7 hours and 20 minutes from Ft. Worth and 7 hours and 40 minutes from Indy. I think they put Kansas in Indy to keep Baylor and TT in Texas and put UK in Pgh for the Cal homecoming

I think your spitballing might come through in this scenario. I could see Nova being a #2 and TCU being #10 in Pittsburgh. They usually like to have some sort of a storyline when seeding teams.

TCU is pretty much a lock to be a #8 seed. They could maybe be a #7, but they certainly won't be a #10.

Way too many Quad 1 wins to be a #10. I'm about 80% sure they will be #8. I'm not sure if Villanova will be a #2 or #3.
