They both have set back Pitt hoops for years.

And we have Heather Lyke to thank for being stuck with this bum coach for another 2 seasons until they can afford the buyout.

7 seasons under Jeff Capel and all we have is a play-in game invite to show for it. Just complete unacceptable.

No he isn't. Stallings could coach but not recruit (here).

Capel can recruit, but not coach.

Both are/were failures.

Capel has turned out to be what we feared we were getting when Stallings was first hired. I was displeased with the Stallings hire from the beginning, but the expectation was more that he would do just enough to keep his job at Pitt, than that he would go winless in Year 2 and get dumped. Capel's record over these seven years has been basically what I expected when Stallings was hired, one tournament bid and a bunch of losing seasons.

The only positive you can say about the program, at the moment, is that it’s better than the one Capel inherited in 2018… which isn’t saying much.

We probably would’ve been better off letting Stallings go year 3

He had JWF and Ryan Luther
Sophs Marcus Carr, Parker Stewart, Terrell Brown.

And I think I remember a decent recruiting class coming in

I think this is a bit of revisionist history. We were BAD back then. It feels awful right now because this team had expectations, but that team wasn’t expected to reach double-digit wins.

I think he's the opposite of Stallings in arriving at the same results. Had we given them both 7 seasons and not met Stallings with such resistance that he was doomed before he even began, those two would probably have had similar win totals over that period.

They did. He wanted the job. We almost hired him.
Yeah, I had a Panther Lair subscription and was following the coaching search pretty closely. Per Matt Steinbrink, there seemed to be more and more smoke in that direction to the point where I thought he was coming home. I forget the reason why it fell through, though.

He only had two recruits coming in and neither were top 150.

I don’t know about Miller after Stallings was canned but Pitt and Miller never talked after Dixon left, despite all the BS fed to Richie Walsh and others.

My apologies DT, I should’ve clarified this was after Stallings was fired. First it was Miller, then Mark Schmidt of the Bonnies, and then Capel.

The only name I recall us actually being linked to after Dixon left was Andy Enfield.

So did I. He was going to be hired but the Pitt General Counsel advised against it. Heather took the advice. Another L.

You know Pitt had a pretty good coach and forced him out so a burned out coach could come in and totally dismantle a solid Bb
program . Sure Pitt’ s level had dropped , but it was still pretty good .

JD 2 struggled getting enough quality guys in here and let’s not even go to KS . JC has done a decent job of getting recruits , but none of his teams has ever had all the pieces .

Now the game has changed , sweet talking recruits has been replaced with NIL payments . No matter what SMF says Pitt can’t compete with the big boys unless it finds a whale .

This Pitt team needed a force inside to go along with Cam and a deadly shooter , do you really think that JC and the staff were unaware of this ? They couldn’t afford to go out and get them .

Bring in another coach without a huge NIL financial support he will do no better . Pitt needs better players and they cost money !

Capel can recruit bubble level talent overall. His coaching doesn’t out it over the top.

But there are still holes talent wise too

Hate to burst your Capel can do no wrong bubble, but Cam Corhen wasn't exactly cheap. He is who Capel specifically identified, and that was a huge miss.

Also, Lowe and Legget are getting paid. And it's a lot. I think they're good players, but I don't believe they're thriving under this coaching staff. But a better coach could absolutely do better with this budget.
