Jeff has hit a new low for even himself…

I really wonder after he gets fired from here(whenever that is) will another D1 school ever hire him as a head coach? He hasn't made a case for himself at all. And it's not just the Pitt job he failed at. Would another school really hire him?

Yes. I think he will coach an HBCU and do a good job.

Can you imagine Jamie Dixon saying "we wouldn't practice hard" in any context? I cant.

LOL! Dixon would always have his guys practice hard one day, then harder the next. It showed in their performance on the court. This group of players, with maybe one or 2 exceptions, wouldn't have lasted with Dixon as their coach. They're too soft.

Yea but a lot of schools have entirely seperare buildings for practices

Not sure if that's what capel is complaining about or not.
🤷‍♂️ If there are physical issues (like facilities shortcomings) that HCJC claims he wasn’t aware of - or that weren’t addressed during the hiring negotiations with Pitt - then that’s a bad oversight on his part for not being more thorough and looking into everything.

If there are “other things” that he claims he was not aware of (like things around the budget for assistants, or permissible recruiting practices allowed by Pitt, etc.), then he maybe should have been more certain and asked more explicit questions to make sure all was clear on the part of both sides and there would be no misunderstandings later.

But “after the fact” claims about not being aware of things don’t change the present status of the MBB program. They also seem to come off more like excuses than explanations at this point.

He is extremely lucky he has received the pay days here he has.

If Heather had not botched the hire, someone else would be sitting in the chair he sits in.

Yea, he comes off extremely arrogant.
He says "ohhh I didnt know this and that" but its 4 years later. The upgrades to the locker room was put into motion prior to him taking the job.
Now he just complains and complains all the time.

Just gives excuses, complains and (don’t forget) steals his money.

Hindsight is 20-20. I don't think that the hire was botched at the time it was made. So we’ll have to disagree on that.

But things have obviously not gone well from a performance or production standpoint. A HC’s job is to win and be highly competitive while meeting the other expectations established by his employer.

The winning hasn't happened. Recruiting and player retention have not been what they’ve needed to be in order for Pitt to be as competitive and successful as what Pitt should reasonably expect them to be.

My advice to Coach Capel:

Remember the days when Pitt BB players would indicate that the toughest games of the week were played in practice? Miss that...
Bingo. The players would always talk about how the practices were tough, hard, physical etc. This made the games seem easier as Pitt players were in great condition and legitimately felt they had an advantage come game time because they were in better shape, tougher and more physical than their opponents.

Maybe it was just speculation, but at the time, was not the thinking that Capel emerging and being hired was almost “accidental” and not part of a well conceived process?

Capel fell into our laps after the search process collapsed?

But all he talked about was brick by brick and a culture of toughness and no excuses…
A cinder block locker room with cold showers would build a culture of toughness. Why is he complaining about the facilities? Are they too nice?
