Jeffress… honest question

Horton and Collier played a combined 34 minutes and scored 2 points altogether. Are they any better?
At the beginning of the year, I suggested we play big.

Zone defense, Rebound, Pound the paint, play physical. Win in the high 50s or low 60s

Shooters and spacing does us no good. They shooters can't shoot. (Usually)

Smaller, quicker defenders are not making us better on defense (see Horton)

I think Payton and Oladapo would give us more scoring and rebounding and not hurt all that much on defense.

It could not have been worse.

Hugley, Mo, Burton, Femi, and Eze are clearly the best lineup.

I would play Hugley and Mo big minutes in front court. I want a third front court position with that time and the Hugley and Mo spell time, divided up between Payton and Oladapo.

Backcourt big minutes to Burton and Femi - remainder split between Eze and Horton with who gets the most game dependant.

No Jeffress or Collier.

Go big or go home (a loser).

He gave Jeffress a long audition and there wasn't one instance where he seemed to even remotely resemble a D1 player. Will go down as one of the most overrated players in Rivals history as I believe he's just a role player at a D2 school. Maybe a 10-12 PPG game guy at Gannon or his dad's school Mercyhurst. This is EXTREME bad luck for Capel as he had offers by everyone and even played for friggin TEAM USA in the U18 Worlds or whatever.

What about this guy Storm Smurphy. Grad transfer. Put a guy like him in next year’s, eh, nevermind.

He's young. When he get to be 28, 29 years old, then he can contribute.

Seriously, the best I saw from this kid was that first month he played as a 17 year old, with freedom and reckless abandon. He got buried last year and never got out of the hole that was dug for him.

Now he is Drumgooled. He probably was overrated to begin with, but the coaching staff has really done nothing to help him.

Yea, there were 2 things he's done in 2 years that looked D1. He missed an athletic dunk vs SFPA and he had a good game vs NW last year. But he's done absolutely nothing since. Even if we consider him a true freshman, he's as bad as I've ever seen a Pitt FR be.

I don't think so. Maybe it finally clicked that Jeffress offers nothing offensively and prefers to put kids on the court who can actually try and score points.
And playing devil’s advocate, how did that work out?

I see no reason to give Ithiel minutes. Collier at least hustles and will mix it up inside.

Agreed
I mean if Horton isn’t scoring he’s a net negative
And he hasnt been scoring - unless you count all you can eat buffets .

I’d rather have Jeffress or Collier out there

FYI - He only played one game before season ending knee surgery.
Thanks, I guess some context would’ve helped.

Speaking of transfers out (aside from X/Toney/McGowens), I had no idea Terrell Brown was still playing until I heard his name when I had Gonzaga - San Diego on a few days ago. His numbers look pretty decent, seems to be a good shot blocker.

Well sure, if Horton can't score, then yea but Capel can't predict the future. He knows for a fact Jeffress wont score. Horton has the potential to score 10, 15, 20 points and that's what he's going with. Someone who can potentially score vs someone who absolutely won't

He’s 1-8 from the field combined the last 2 games in 38 minutes of pt combined for 4 points
What are we actually gaining ?

he’s the easiest guy on the floor to guard - just stand next to him.
And he couldn’t guard a few of the guys I played pickup with

Currently. Nothing. If Capel looks into the future and sees Horton will go 0-6 on Monday then sure, play Jeffress but Horton has potential while Jeffress does not

Late in the game last night on several possessions they basically weren't even bothering to guard him. He was on the wing in front of the Pitt bench and Hugley was in the low post on that side and the guy was was "guarding" Horton was standing about three feet away from Hugley, basically daring us to pass Horton the ball and let him shoot.

Horton did take an open three late that could have been a very big make.
