Jerry Palm @ CBSSports.com latest bowl projections...

Getting to 9 guarantees Pitt in the better tier . And like I said, unlike the BE, the ACC has bigger opponents in these games from SEC,B10,B12 so smaller drawing teams like Pitt not automatically ruled out.

Tax slayer (Gator) against an SEC team... sign me up! I have friends in Jax.

I would love to see us in the Taxslayer (nee, Gator) Bowl OR at the Music City Bowl - both would be against a formidable SEC opponent, whose fan base will assure a large crowd. I would be good with facing Georgia - an opponent we've played (and defeated) a couple of times previously in Bowl Games; albeit back in the '70's and '80's.

But not to get ahead of ourselves; let's beat the U this Friday and leave no doubt to the selections committee(s) that we deserve to be in one of these two bowl games as the #3/4 team in the ACC after Clemson and UNC. FSU would logically get one of the bigger bowl games, given their recent trips to the BCS and because of their head coach, who's rumored to be on the short list of several top programs (USC and LSU, et al). Always strong for ratings when there is a good team AND coaching drama . . .

Call me old school, but I want PSU in the Pinstripe.

While PSU in the Pinstripe would be a fan favorite, I'd rather wait until next year to see us play Ped State. Right now the Pinstripe Bowl would be my third choice among the "other" ACC Bowl Games, providing we beat U of Miami and go into the bowl season 9-3/7-1. We would be the #3 team in the ACC, and would deserve to be at either Jax or Nashville

The 4 Tier 1 bowls are Pinstripe, Belk, Sun, and Gator/Music City.

I would think that they will keep Pitt in the North at the Pinstripe. NCSU to the Belk is a no-brainer. UNC to the Gator and Duke to the Sun since that bowl doesn't need traveling fans.

UNC will be in the Russell Athletic Bowl (formerly Champs Sports Bowl)

Of all teams, this is the one I want the most. Miss. State is garbage this year. Most overrated team ever.

Maybe. That QB worries me though.

Personally, my hope would be the Music City Bowl, since that is one I can actually make it to and convince my wife to join.

I don't know how likely it is that Clemson, Notre Dame and Florida State all make all make the Playoff/New Years six. If only two get in everyone goes down a spot and PITT goes to Belk/Sun/Pinstripe.

Well, if both Clemson and ND win out, they will both be playing in the BCS semi-finals. FSU would likely get the nod in the Peach Bowl due to proximity, fan support, national name and program recognition, etc. That would still leave UNC and us each getting a decent Tier One spot, which would likely mean the Taxslayer and Music City. Louisville, Miami or Duke possible for the Pinstripe. And let's not forget that if VA Tech wins at Virginia this week, they'll be bowl eligible, too. I'm sure that the "committee" (or whoever selects the bowl teams after the Playoffs/NY6) will want to give Beamer a choice venue for his last game as a coach. VA Tech fans will travel . . .

What if UNC beats Clemson?

I think 6-6 teams like VT can't jump over teams with better records for higher tier bowls in the ACC right? I thought I remembered reading that last year

Don't bet on ND getting in. The luster is off any win over Stanford and a 3 point win against BC isn't going to look very good. I think the Oklahoma/ OKState winner jumps them and whoever wins the BIG championship is going to jump them too. Clemson is in barring a loss to UNC and probably finish ahead of them even at 12-1. Bama is in with an SEC Championship.

I think the only way that ND DOES get in is with a win vs Stanford AND Clemson winning out. I agree that ND probably DOESN'T belong in the Top 4, but somehow, if the above scenario comes through, ND will get in. Their argument would be the narrow loss at Clemson, and a schedule featuring wins over 5 of the Top 30 teams in the country.

I think the LOCKS right now for the Playoffs are: Clemson and Bama (both winning their final games). Beyond that, it's still a real toss-up. If Iowa wins the B1G and remains undefeated, it would be hard to keep them out. Still not sure about the Big 12 teams, as each has had a loss. Oklahoma has a 4-0 record vs Top 25 teams, but if their QB can't go, I don't like their chances.

Is there any way to extrapolate the top 25 out of this? I realize that conferences have tie ins but just asking

You mean as far as the NY6 Bowl Games go? I think that the winner of the Pac 12 will still play in the Rose Bowl, vs the loser of the B1G Conference Championship. The loser of the SEC Conf Championship will still play in the Sugar Bowl, presuming it's Florida with only 1 loss. Ole Miss could sneak in there, too. And whoever is the Big 12 runner-up (or maybe "Champion") will be their opponent. Beyond that, I'm sure that there will be other scenarios - i.e., no conference tie-ins per se - once the dust settles and the Final Four BCS Playoff teams are chosen. You KNOW Notre Dame is going to get a choice bowl even if they aren't among the Final Four. I don't think a loss to Stanford would affect that too much. Still see them in the Peach Bowl at the worst; Fiesta Bowl (if they are 11-1 and are not in the Playoffs).

I see the Taxslayer is SEC vs Big10/ND/ACC but my question is what rank in the ACC would typically go? A 3/4 ranking in the ACC should move is into the top 25.

Agree; the best guess scenario - assuming all of the top ACC teams win this week - is that we'll have Clemson as #1; UNC as #10 or better; FSU just a spot or two (at most) behind UNC; and Pitt at #22 - #25.

I could see the Taxslayer getting UF if they lose to FSU and Alabama. A three loss Florida would not look too attractive to the Sugar Bowl, I don't think. Not after the way they barely beat FAU.

Champs Sports Bowl has 1st pick then the Tax Slayer, Pinstripe, Belk & Sun all work together to set the matchups for their Bowls. Per the ACC all of these are considered equal and will work with each other to avoid rematches from the regular season & try to keep teams from appearing in the same Bowl in consecutive years (which is one reason why facing Penn State in the Pinstripe is highly unlikely).

Also of note when it comes to the the Tax Slayer & Music City this year the Tax Slayer has the option to pick an ACC school, should they decide to choose a B1G school instead then an ACC school goes to the Music City. If the Tax Slayer does choose an ACC school then the Music City Bowl will be SEC vs B1G. The ACC only gets a bid to one of these games.

When I went back and looked at Jerry Palm's projected selections, they also listed the Citrus Bowl as being an either ACC or B1G team vs SEC. Is this bowl still an option for any of the ACC teams?

Citrus Bowl = Champs Sports Bowl = Russell Athletic Bowl .... All the same game. My bad in calling it the Champ Sports Bowl as it changed to Russell Athletic a few years ago.

I believe correct with regard to the ACC tiers. They couldn't bump a 7-5 team from 'tier 1' group down to 'tier 2' .

Now that doesn't apply to ND. They still get the '1 win rule'. A 8-4 ND could bump a 9-3 ACC down a tier.
Just my take though.

Actually, there is a Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl AND the Russell Athletic Bowl (formerly Tangerine Bowl/Champs Sports Bowl), both of which are played at the Citrus Bowl Stadium in Orlando. The BWW Citrus Bowl was recently known as the Capitol One Bowl. I think the games are about a week apart; maybe closer

You're correct, can't keep track of all these corporate names anymore lol. Anyway, here's what I found with regards to it choosing an ACC school ......

"The Citrus Bowl has the chance to occasionally host an ACC team, replacing the Big Ten representative. This will only happen in years when the Orange Bowl is not a semifinal game and choose a Big Ten team to face the ACC team."

SB Nation has Pitt slated in the Music City vs Georgia. Whether it's Taxslayer or Music City I can't see Pitt sliding any lower if they finish 9-3. Clemson, NC, FSU, and ND will take 3 of the Playoff/NY 6 slots and the Russell Athletic Slot in some order as has been discussed on this thread. The next tier of 4 can change but it would be pretty tough for the premier selection (Taxlslayer or Music City) to bypass a 9-3 team for 7-5 or 6-6 teams from a pool of NC St., Louisville and probably Va. Tech.

Agree; not that the Pinstripe Bowl would be a slap in the face, but I would rather we go south to play and face a team from the SEC than the B1G. Just one man's opinion . . .
