Jim Cheney leaving for same position at georgia

I always got the feeling with Big Jim that he likes to move around a lot. Important hire coming up for Narduzzi but hopefully with all of the turnover we get a nice hire...I would look for someone with play calling experience...

I didn't have a problem with cheney other than the toss sweep plays on 3rd and short. I actually thought he did a good job. Ultimately it was Narduzzi's call, but I believe Jim had a huge influence in the decision to go with Peterman over Voytik and I think that decision proved correct in the end. Most schools go through coaching changes a a good clip, but man, it would have been nice to have one year with some stability. Narduzzi even made a comment this week about his extension that it was good to see everyone returning. But of all the coaches, I would have guessed Jim would have been the first to go. Just seems like a vagabond type...(nothing wrong with that if you know what you are getting when you hire him...)

I am one person happy to see him go. The offense without a doubt regressed this year. I know we lost a couple guys who were key contributors, but so does every college team.

No, you cant transfer twice as a graduate. He's have to sit out, apply for like his 6th year etc.

Despite the commercials during our games, there are way more Bojangles in Georgia. I'm told that was the deciding factor for Chaney. And I have some real sources in the fast food industry.

I don't honestly see this as a big loss. Chaney impressed me as one of those guys who thought you get brownie points for being clever. The offense was OK this year but certainly not a machine (yes, the loss of Conner hurt, but that's part of the game). Not sure what Chaney brought as a recruiter. I also get the feeling that Narduzzi and Chaney didn't always see eye to eye. This is an opportunity to bring in someone who can energize the offense as much as the new coaches energized the defense.

Cruzer

You don't want your offense learning new stuff every year. Its not good but can be overcome.

Pitt has almost no athletes on offense. He did a great job. Especially with Peterman.

He did not do a great job. He did all right. He got too predictable at times, which would sputter the offense.

He would run the ball every time Boyd was taken out of the game. Defense prepared for that and usually stuffed it.

He would also try to get cute when something was working. Our first drive against ND - we were running Ollison up the middle and having success. He decides to try a handoff to Boyd and a throw back to Peterman with Ollison blocking. He gave up a sack because he doesn't pass block well and ND has a good pass rush. So instead of having block for 3 seconds, it was close to 6.

He also didn't maximize the strengths of the RBs enough. Ollison should run between tackles and James outside. He would frequently do the opposite with no success.

I liked his offense better than what we had last year, but I don't think it will take a step back without him. I think Narduzzi was more involved with the offense than we might have suspected before the season.
The Bojangles comment was funny, but honestly, his weight is so out of control, I'm not sure he will live long enough to ever coach at UGA. And his rotundness was becoming an embarrassment. Imagine being a recruit and having that come into your living room and break your chair. Not a good example for young kids.

Chaney supposedly left Arkansas because he didn't get along well with the HC, who is a notable asshole. But it appears he had issues with Narduzzi as well, so maybe some of it is him. Anyway, I hope he does well at UGA.

Only concern is McVittee. He's known Chaney for along time, but his commitment to Pitt itself seems very strong, and Chaney likely become less of the issue as he got more familiar with Pitt itself.

So he was too predictable, and in your eyes the solution to that was to do something that would make us more predictable. Brilliant!

When something works, like running Ollison up the middle, you make them stop you. Then do it again to make sure. He misused players at times.

He was predictable because he got in habits of running every first down. He was predictable because he had certain formations where he ran the same play. This would make the offense go three and out for a few drives in a row.

One of the top QB's in the ACC with receivers that could not get open. I was very impressed. This is a big loss.

I'm happy too -- he always struck me as an idiot

I wonder if Duzzer "spoke" to him about possibly "transferring" out? I have a feeling they didn't see "eye to eye" in philosophy...

Looking forward to an up and coming OC -- not an oldie like Chaney

So again, your solution to him being too predictable is for him to become more predictable. How long do you suppose it would take for opposing coaches to realize that every single time you hand the ball off to Ollison it was going to be a run between the tackles, and every single time you hand the ball off to James it was going to be a run to the outside? Just how dumb to you think the coaches on the other sideline are?

The Duzzer is the one who hired him...

No $hit $herlock

Coaches never make hiring mistakes?

I think Duzz regretted the hire, but wouldn't say anything publicly -- there were play sequences and clock management issues where Duzz was yelling like a madman at JC -- they just didn't seem to "sync up" very well

I say Duzz will do better for his next hire, and the O will be better next year

I'm a bit disappointed that Narduzzi didnt hire loyal coaches that he had a good relationship with to avoid any staff turnover for atleast three years.
For PITT today ANY football program turnover isnt a good thing.
Hire someone who is competent who will stick with PITT and Narduzzi.
I wouldnt go with a young talent since theyll leave for the first good HC job.
Maybe Walt! The only way he leaves is to go to assited living.
Or get another really good retired offense oriented guy Spurrier. He'll be bored to death soon!

It's hilarious the same people calling for Chaney to be fired during the season are now sticking up for him .... mmmm sure you aren't Penn state fans?

Stop running every first down! Run Ollison Between the tackles until they stop it. Don't continue to run him outside to the short side of the field when it is not working time after time.

It's bad when I can predict the play calling while watching the game. When his play calling was in a rut, it was run on first, run in second, third in third.
